Trick-Or-Treater Killed Halloween Night When Rotted Tree Falls On Him
November 2, 2009 by Morbid
PELHAM, New Hampshire – No crime here, just a tragedy. 10-year-old Christian Gualtieri was killed while out trick-or-treating with his dad and friends on SaturdaySaturday reviews
night. He had just left a residence and was heading towards another house when the freak accident occurred. As he was navigating around a parked car, a rotted birch tree snapped and fell on him. “(It’s) just a freak accident. The wind was going pretty well and it appears the wind knocked down a rotted tree and just went down on the boy,” Pelham police Lt. Gary Fisher said. Christian went into cardiac arrest and was taken to Saints Memorial Medical Center in Lowell, Mass., where he died a short time later. The video report states the fourth-grader did not regain consciousness after being struck – so if there is any good to come out of such a tragic story, it is that he did not suffer. As for the surviving friends and family, I’m sure that will not be the case.
This story just depressed the fuck out of me when I read it. People die every day, sure. But this one got to me more than normal because of the people and holiday involved. Me and my kid have gone trick-or-treating every year he has been able. I absolutely cannot imagine what this boy’s friends and family are going through right now – or the homeowner for that matter. My condolences to the Gualtieri family.

How awful. That tree doesn’t even look rotted! But then again, they don’t always. A tree that was beginning to rot knocked the roof off my house a couple of years ago. There was no wind, no nothing. Just a loud series of crashes and I found myself without a roof. (Thank the gods no one was hurt, curse the gods it landed on my house! I’m joking, of course, but all ill attempts at levity aside…)
I don’t know what else to say other than how truly awful this is. A family out having fun only to have their child taken from them in a freak accident. I feel sorry for the homeowners, too. Having fun, handing out candy and then a healthy-looking tree falls down and kills a little boy. Awful, awful.
