Happy Halloween And The Silver Shamrock Horror Movie Couch Of DOOM
October 31, 2009 by Morbid
Me and the kid got to thinking about what we could do this year to celebrate HalloweenHalloween reviews
aside from the sacrificing, and decided on just having a horror movie marathon. The films would all be horror and would all be movies he has not yet seen. So before any of you start yelling “What about this movie or that movie?” it’s probably not on the list because he is my kid – and he has already seen it. The catch? Can we watch them all without moving from the couch. Read on to see the list of films we have chosen, and the setup we have constructed consisting of the couch, a cooler, coffee maker, computers and a microwave. All strategically placed so that we do not have to leave the front of the television aside from bathroom breaks — which we also tried to find ways out of but ultimately decided pissing in a 2-liter\shitting in a bucket are acts we would only feel comfortable doing in front of each other if we were trapped in a car buried in a snowbank. But beyond that, I think we are set. 2o+ hours of straight horror movie bliss. Maybe.
Here is the list of films so far:
An American Werewolf in LondonAn American Werewolf in London reviews
Near DarkNear Dark reviews
John Carpenter’s The Thing
The Blob
Zombi
Dead AliveDead Alive reviews
Demons
HatchetHatchet reviews
SplinterSplinter reviews
Ginger SnapsGinger Snaps reviews
And before anyone gets on me about him not seeing American Werewolf and The ThingThe Thing reviews
yet, it wasn’t for lack of trying. Two times we have attempted to watch them, but both times were late and he fell asleep. The second time even after I beat his ass for falling asleep the first time.
Here is the COUCH OF DOOM. This pic is from this morning after we slept on it as this post was supposed to go up last night. Also, a side note. The couch was purchased from Rooms-To-Go many years ago. It has survived tremendous, heinous acts of abuse and depravity. Since I have owned it, I have seen it (along with the accompanying rug, lamp and end tables) in several different porn clips. Just thought I would throw that out there.
Here is what we will be staring at for the majority of this weekend:
And yes, for those of you who remember – that is my black Christmas Tree I bought last year. It’s new primary purpose is to celebrate Halloween. So that’s what we will be doing except for when we go to a friends Halloween get together later this evening, only to resume watching when we get back. I will be in the comments section here throughout the weekend as well as TwitterTwitter
and FacebookFacebook
. I hope you all have a great Halloween – and for those of you who do not celebrate it in some fashion, you are very, VERY lame.

Did y’all watch the original Steve McQueen “Blob”, or the remake with a young cute Shawnee Smith in it?
Katherine Isabelle and Emily Perkins do fairly well in the “Ginger Snaps” films, but I did think Perkins was much more creepier as the seraphim quadruplets in the “X Files” “All Souls” episode, than Isabelle was in the “Ginger Snaps” flix.
Plus, Perkins can actually *act*, whereas Isabelle, IMO, gets by because she’s eye candy – but, candy is part of the Holiday festivities too!

I see your exposing your kid to some choice movies. How old is he again? My oldest is 6 yo now, and already is wants to see zombie movies! Not letting him do that yet, but he will be a huge horror fan like hubs and I are.
J and I did much the same, but not like we used to before having kiddo’s and getting older. We watched The Thing one of my all time faves, and Demon Night….couldn’t stay up past that….lol. Good list Morbid, American Were Wolf in London is a favorite too. You did right by your kid!
…..Oh, one more thing, love the couch, this is the infamous one, yeah? And the tree, love it, remember it from last year.Good idea bringing it out for Halloween. I’d love my neighbors across the street to see that, religious nuts would freak out!

He’s 14. We didn’t get through the entire list, but did watch a total of 8 films which is pretty good considering neither of us like sitting still in front of a television for too long.
Near Dark
An American Werewolf In London
Splinter
Hatchet
The Blair Witch
The Thing
The Blob
Ginger Snaps
He liked them all, although the little boy in Near Dark (Homer) got on his nerves (he got on mine more in River’s Edge.) He’d already seen Blair Witch but we love it – much better than Paranormal Activity (a movie I liked.)
Remake all the way. Love that film. The effects are great and Dillon’s hair is as scary as the Blob.
100 percent agreed.

Blair Witch was totally better, and scarier, than Paranormal Activity. Although I also quite liked it. We agree on something.
Yes, I am everywhere tonight.

I frickin love Near Dark although I have to agree… the kid is irritating as fuck and he is almost as ugly as the kid that played a young Michael in Rob Zombies Halloween.
My fave scene is when the guy licks the blood off his fingers and says “finger licking good” Cheesy I know but I dig it.

What’d ya think of “The hills run Red” and “Midnight Movie”?
4:29 pm on November 2nd, 2009
I was not a fan of Hills Run Red. It had a couple good moments, and a somewhat good premise – but overall I thought it missed the mark. I ranked it right along Behind the Mask and Everybody Loves Mandy Lane. Two other films that people told me were really, really, good that really, really were not.

man morbid…you’re like the coolest dad ever. my dad was responsible for my appetite for cinema – but he always had to contend with my mom as to what i was/was not able to see.
lucky kid…

I agree. Hey THANKs for telling us about Hatchet !!! I had a blast watching it…. Laughed out loud a few times! An American Asian Cajun???? Too funny. And the old couple, don’cha know…
