Memphis, TennesseeWitnessing neighbors state that when the fire broke out in the home of Melanie Dunn on Monday afternoon, they heard screams coming from the house. Those screams belonged to 2-year-old Catareon Dunn and 3-year-old Ladereon Dunn. A rescue attempt was made by gaining entrance from the back door but the flames kept them at bay. When firefighters arrived on scene and pulled the children from the inferno, onlookers described the children as being limp and looking like “rag dolls”. But Melanie was not at home as she and the boys’ aunt, Marilyn Wilson, had left them alone that  afternoon to go shopping.

Aunt Marilyn Wilson splainin' the whole thing

The mother and aunt received a call stating there was a fire at the residence approximately an hour after they had left the two children alone. Aunt Marilyn Wilson, while speaking of the condition of Melanie Dunn,  ”She was alright. She went down there, seen them in the ambulance. She didn’t get in. Guess she went to Le Bonheur“. (children’s hospital) “Some kind of way they set something on fire. I don’t know how it happened, because we weren’t there.” Noooo shit there fucking idiot. And the dead boy would probably be alive today had you been there but who knows when that luck would have run out.

At first, I thought my initial reaction of judging these two fucks was a bit harsh but then stumbling upon this gem of a quote led me to think I wasn’t harsh enough. When asked if she had any regrets about leaving the children alone in the home, the aunt stated  “No, I really don’t because if they had been there by themselves, I don’t know if the boys set the house on fire or somebody threw something in there to set it on fire. I really need to get in there to see if my purse burned up. I had my Food Stamp Card and everything in there.” This begs the question: why in the hell can’t we shoot someone on the spot and be hailed as someone who did society a favor?

For now, Melanie Dunn has escaped any charges but the case is being presented to the Grand Jury awaiting further investigation. One child dead, one child in critical condition, and her 3rd child was fortunate to escape the trauma for yet another day due to being in school. The 5-year-old has been taken to a relatives home and the 2-year-old is now a ward of the state. Charges have not been filed against the mother or the aunt, but the Memphis police are still investigating.

These two women had absolutely no problem leaving a 2 and a 3-year-old alone. After all, Melanie didn’t leave them at home alone “all the time”. Losing one child in a fire while the 2nd hangs in the balance is just a minor annoyance. The big news here is that the fucking food stamps may have burned up. Yeah, right. Probably right next to your stash…

The other family members are now coming out to do some damage control.

“She loves her kids. She loves them to death,” said her aunt, Christean Mullins. “And she’s not a bad person, and she just made the wrong judgement yesterday.”

They admit Dunn made a big mistake when she left her toddlers locked inside the home alone, while they say she went to get her five-year-old child from school.

“Not ever thinking anything like this would happen,” said cousin Andrea Burnside.

Another aunt, with whom we spoke on the scene Monday, claimed she and Dunn left the children to go shopping at Citi Trends on South Third. But these family members say her nonchalant attitude was uncalled for.

“She’s on drugs real bad and has mental problems, and didn’t understand a lot of the questions the media was asking her,” said Burnside about that aunt

They say the entire family is feeling the effects of Dunn’s actions and the resulting criticism.

“It hurts me,” Mullins said. “It hurts all of us.”

“We are very remorseful,” Burnside added.

They are also sorry Dunn’s grief over the death of her son may soon be compounded by possible jail time.

UPDATE: As per an MPD release, the facts of the case were presented to the Shelby County District Attorney General’s office and they have declined to file criminal charges at this time. The case will be completed and submitted to the District Attorney General’s Grand Jury section for a final review.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Memphis police say Dunn may face criminal neglect homicide charges after the medical examiner releases the official cause of death.

What’s the damn hold up then? Seems to me that the evidence is all there. Crackheads leave toddlers at home unattended, crackhead’s house burns down killing and seriously wounding crackhead’s children. The next sentence should then read: “Bam. Crackhead charged.”

I sometimes wonder how most kids make it to adulthood. Especially in urban areas. Parents leaving them home alone to score some dope – or just party. Drugs being used and left in plain sight. Food Stamps being traded for more dope or cash – so the babies don’t eat much if at all.

Where are the priorities? Aunties ‘priority’ was her purse and FS card (which I’m not sure she left behind – if she was shopping)

I feel bad for these babies and other family members – and to a degree – even the mom. Her fucked up decision will haunt her forever.

What a bunch of dumb low life useless bitches, and to the family coming out defending these worthless cunts FUCK YOU!!! There is a dead little boy who will never grow up never get to experience life because he died a painful, violent death while probably wondering where “mommy and auntie” was. So go fuck yourself there is nothing you can say that justifies what these bottom feeders have caused.

The first thing I thought of when I read this quote was Tyrone Biggums, but I immediately knew that not even Dave Chappelle could come up with a character as completely fucking whacked-out as this woman.
She’s more worried about her crack fund Food Stamp Card, than she is about the death of one relative child, and serious injury to another relative child.
That missing toof is some awesome coolness tho, I’ll bet it comes in handy when sucking stuff updrinking with a straw.

Ugh. I don’t even know where to start with these two useless wastes of space! It’s never a good idea to leave toddlers home alone. There could be a fire, a break-in, an accident, any number of medical emergencies! A child that young usually can’t call for help (I say usually because I did hear about a 2 year old who called 911 when her mother collapsed, so it can happen) so if something horrible happens, they end up severely injured or dead.

And, to add insult to injury, the aunt’s statement just turned my stomach. One of her nephews is dead, the other is in critical condition, her sister is facing jailtime and she’s worried about her damned food stamp (properly called an EBT–Electronic Benefits Transfer) card that can be replaced in three business days with all the funds intact?! Idiot.

FUCKING CRACKHEADS!! The government should stop supporting scum like these losers. Let’s just pay some dumbass for having children, great fucking idea. They don’t give a shit about their children, they only see them as free fucking meal ticket. What a fucked up world we live in. No wonder it’s going to shit. Dirty, motherfuckers like these getting paid to have babies. I say we spay these sick fucks!! Damn I’m pissed off!! RIP Ladereon.

I have a 2 year old and a 3 year old too. I drag the little monsters on my shopping trips because all heck would break out if they got left alone. They’re not too happy when I go to the mailbox so I don’t think they’d be cool with me leaving to go to the store. 2 year olds and 3 year olds gets in a lot of trouble right in front of you. My 2 year old just took a fall on the steps and scratched up her forehead and is developing a nice goose egg. I can’t imagine what would happen if I left them alone. And how anybody could be worried about a food stamp card while their children are gravely injured is beyond me.

WTF??? Aunt Marilyn is the epitome of everything wrong in society today. Who is more worried about their Food Stamps than the 2 and 3 year olds left to fend for themselves, resulting in one dead!!! This woman needs a good beat down and to be set on fire, followed by prison if she were to survive the fire. Too sick for words.

Okay, I am pissed off! They left two kids alone so they could “drop some dude off,” according to the aunt. Aunt more concerned about her Food Stamps and laughing in the video. Why, oh why, should either of these two EVER be allowed to be a “mother” to any child again?? Please tell me.

The aunt’s cavalier attitude has pissed me off to no end. Please lock her up now!

This happened an hour away from me. The stupid bat was arrested. I was told it was right after her taped statement, but I’m not sure.
(Memphis 10/21/2009) Monday, two toddlers who are left home alone are trapped in a duplex as flames shot through the roof.

Three-year-old LaDareon Dunn died. His two year old brother is left clinging to life in intensive care.

The story is already emotional but for many it turns to outrage after hearing Marilyn Wilson, the woman who was with the children’s mother as she ran errands, say this. “I really need to get in there to see did my purse burn up because I had my food stamp card and everything in there.”

50-year-old Marilyn Wilson’s words sent chills down the spines of those who watched the news in horror Monday but Wilson’s family says it’s not what it seems. Linda Hays, a family friend, says Marilyn Wilson has a long history of mental illness.

“I think she’s been crucified and the people don’t really understand that she doesn’t even understand what’s happening yet. Her mind is gone and she needs help,” says Hays.

“It’s not fair because you’re listening to what she said and me knowing that she doesn’t even have a food stamp card. She doesn’t realize that these are her nieces and nephews at this point. She doesn’t even know what’s going on,” Hays continued.

That could explain the confused look Wilson had as she faced a judge Wednesday morning. While questioning her about the fire, police realized she had a three-year-old warrant for theft of property, driving on a suspended license and violation of vehicle registration. The family hopes she gets the help she needs.

“She has real issues that need to be dealt with. She needs help,” said hays.

The outrage also continues over Shelby County District Attorney Bill Gibbons not charging the mother in the case. Gibbons issued a statement Wednesday morning.

In it he says that it would not be appropriate to make a decision to charge the mother or anyone else in this case without having all the facts.

Harold Collins, a spokesperson for the DA’s office, says they understand how emotional this case is but they cannot let their emotions determine the kind of action they make. Right now, they are waiting on reports from other agencies before they make a decision.

“Before we make a decision we have to have those reports. The Memphis Police Department we’re still waiting on the Memphis Fire Department report. We’re also waiting on the Shelby County Medical Examiners report,” said Collins.

The twat of a “mother was indicted. Hooray!

The mother of two children who died after being left alone in a house that caught fire has been indicted and taken into custody.

Melodia Dunn, 22, has been indicted on two counts of aggravated child neglect or endangerment and two counts of reckless homicide, officials said Tuesday night. She is being held in the Shelby County Jail on $250,000 bond.

According to the first two counts of the indictment, Dunn “did unlawfully and knowingly, other than by accidental means, neglect or endanger” Ladereon Dunn and Cartareon Dunn. The third and fourth counts of the indictment state that Dunn “did unlawfully and recklessly kill” her two children.

Ladereon Dunn, 3, died Oct. 19 after the duplex at 1240 Effie caught fire. His brother, 2-year-old Cartareon, died Oct. 26.
