What does harmonica mean in this story? Are we talking the full nine yards with bellows, keys and mother-of-pearl buttons, or are we talking about a mouth-organ (skin-flute, ha!)? And if it is the latter, it must have been rather a large one for him to take a swing at someone with it…….

Um. The harmonica is the mouth-instrument. The bagpipe is the bellowed, buttoned God-aweful thing that I think you’re referring to.
