Who Killed Elizabeth Barrow?

Boston, MA – Officials have not released many details in this story, but the ones that are out there only lead to more questions.  Back on September 24th, just a month after turning 100 years old, Elizabeth Barrow was found dead in her bed at the nursing home she had lived in for the past 4 years.  Sounds about right, huh?  Well, not really.  She was found with a plastic bag over head and even though there were no signs of a struggle, her death was ruled a homicide by manual strangulation.  Her son says that Barrows was healthy and vibrant despite her age.  The family had taken her out to lunch and shopping just the day before her body was found.  Barrow had a female roommate who was in her 90s, but there is no word on any witness statements.  Considering the son is not blaming the facility, singing it’s praises even, and everyone is remaining tight lipped I am wondering if officials are keeping quiet because they in fact do have a suspect in mind.  Whatever the case, I am anxious to hear how this turns out.  It must suck to live that long only to be denied a peaceful death in your sleep.

Authorities said they are investigating the 96-year-old roommate of a Dartmouth, Mass., nursing home resident who was strangled in her bed last month with a plastic shopping bag tied over her head

The roommate allegedly complained about Barrow’s many visitors and even made threats when the two debated which one should get the bed by the window, with the roommate saying she should have it because “I’m going to outlive you.”
Family members asked the staff at Brandon Woods Nursing Home to make a change, but Barrow insisted she could patch things up.

Barrow’s roommate was moved to a psychiatric facility shortly after the murder. Scott Barrow said he saw her in a nursing home hallway after the slaying and he said she looked at him and said, “You’re going to blame me for this and you’re wrong.”

Wow! If the 96 year old is that vicious now, just think what she was like at 30, even 40 and 50….

    Rest in Peace Elizabeth Barrow!

I am just wondering if, and its a big IF, she wanted to die and someone supplied a mercy killing.

maybe she did tell the officials what she knows but they don’t believe her. Kinda like when a child tells somebody and they say they are making it up.

A lot of time, your word against their word – stops a criminal charge in its tracks

Wonder I think you could be right but you never know malq could be too and often people in nursing homes are just plain bitter and scary. As canteankerous as the old woman sounds mayhaps she told and was ignored? That in itself would be a crime! Hey for that matter so would a mercy killing just not as plausable unless it was an employee that did it and then would a cynical or scared old woman even tell? You guys sure got me thinking tonight. (Today?)

I have been a geriatrics nurse for over 20 yrs in nursing /retirement home and every home has a secret. We had a CNA working midnights, she wanted that b/c hubby worked days and this way didnt need sitter. We reported many, many times that she was sleeping on a couch in 1 patients room and in another she would climb into the empty bed.Not all but some of my patients have ” johnny” gowns as its easier during night to change diapers(yeah I know). But she was sleeping and a patient attempted to climb out of her bed and got johnny gown caught on side rails and literally hung herself accidently.Even then it was being swept under the rug until me and 4 others reported it to proper people and she was fired, charged and basically nothing happened. And its disgusting only good thing was we made sure her name was called into every retirement/nursing home in the city and county. She cant be trusted to watch anyone let alone alzheimers patients. But its a big secret still after all these yrs. That Mrs.Barrow couldve died accidently from some type of neglect and that lady in next bed that had complained about her and became perfect scapegoat. Manual strangulation takes 33 lbs of pressure and 4-7 minutes of non stop pressure, would be defense wounds of scratches and claw marks(depending on length of nails).Im not sure if I buy the 90 yr old roommate did it.Curious to see what else comes out down the road.
