Man Who Accidentally Killed Twin Brother Killed Himself
October 8, 2009 by Morbid
BETHLEHEM, Pa – Twin brothers Timothy and Thomas Willgruber, both aged 56, had a history of alcohol abuse and drunk driving. But not any longer. Last month the brothers were attending Celtic Fest, and Thomas was trying to help his drunk brother parallel park a minivan. For some drunken reason, Timothy lost control of the vehicle and ended up crushing Thomas’ leg in between the van and a parked SUV. Thomas died 8-hours later. Timothy failed the sobriety test at the scene and it was later revealed he had a blood-alcohol level of .20. Even though Bethlehem police Capt. David Kravatz says Timothy Willgruber was “devastated” after the accident and family members say the brothers were best friends, homicide charges were expected – but now that wont be necessary. Timothy hung himself on Tuesday.
My disdain and hatred of people who drive drunk is pretty well-known around here, and I do feel bad for the friends and family of these two men. But these two had a history of driving drunk. I am not understanding the sympathy that was shown towards Timothy after the accident. Had this been a little girl he crushed to death, or some stranger, people would have been demanding his suicide. Should the law treat people who break laws differently because they may truly be sorry for what they have done? Or that they killed a loved on accidentally in the process?

Nope, sorry. When a death is caused by drunk driving and you have a history of it, saying sorry or being truly remorseful is too little too late.
When they say he felt the guilt of killing his own brother, would the guilt have been the same if it had been someone else’s brother, father, son? I highly doubt it.

Short answer: No.
If this had been me; killing my own twin because I made such a piss poor decision, I don’t know how I’d live with myself either. Too much to bear. Though we’ve seen a few cases on this site where the perps don’t appear to have have the capability of being “sorry” for what they’ve done, I’d say that odds are most of us would feel like shit had this been one of us.
Still, the answer is no.

I disagree. One drunk killing another drunk is different than killing an innocent person, especially a child.

Wow, that’s really tragic.

As is my disdain and hatred of drunk drivers. My opinion is he murdered his brother. Choosing to drink, choosing to get behind the wheel, should come with a charge of first degree, capital murder. Because that’s what they are, murderers.
Should he have been coddled and offered sympathy? HELL NO!! I cannot believe anyone, even the family should have felt sympathy for him. But, it’s all done and over now.
I do however feel much sympathy for their mother and father (if they are still alive, no parent should have to bury a child, let alone two), and I feel sympathy for any wives, children and other siblings they may have had.

What? Killing anyone is horrible. The twin wasn’t driving, was he stupid? Yes. Did he deserve to die? No.

Q( Choosing to drink, choosing to get behind the wheel, should come with a charge of first degree, capital murder. Because that’s what they are, murderers.)EQ
how dramatic.
Peeper, you are talking out of your ass again. Capitol murder is a premeditated coldblooded remorseful event. A drunk driving death can be blamed squarely on an individual, but comes nowhere near a capitol case. No one intends on getting in a dui death case. It’s been nice having you banned from the forums. I guess you can still post here.

Well, at the rate these two were goin’, I guess it had to end in a very bad way somewhere down the line. Poetic justice, maybe. People on the road in that neighborhood will now be a little safer, but to me..its all just terribly sad.

I have sympathy for both brothers because their history suggests a problem with alcohol, and I wish they had sought help before this end. However, an accident that happens with a car while drunk is no longer an accident. They both should have known better, and legally the surviving brother is culpable. In my opinion, he is ethically culpable too. I’m not a fan of suicide, but he lost his twin and was at fault. I feel for his family, but the pain that drove him to kill himself could have been prevented. I don’t have problem admitting that my sympathy for their probably alcoholism only goes so far.

I do agree, this has been discussed before – when you choose to use alcohol or drugs and drive it should be more severe then if you just had a crash.
No you didn’t wake up that day and say I think I’ll kill so and so… But when you get behind the wheel – it not much different then carrying a loaded gun and using it.

I Don’t condone Drunk Driving, but mostof these people suffer from addiction. It truely is on the person that drives drunk, but they should be on alert if they’ve already had a DUI. I don’t think it’s premeditated but surely wrong.
IMO it’s more like carrying a loaded gun while drunk and the gun accidentally goes off and shoots someone.

sounds like these two had life long alcoholism issues but even the most hardened of alcoholics (in recovery) will tell you, alcoholics/addicts are still responsible for their actions.
justice has been served. it’s just too bad the family had to pay the ultimate price of pain for these two deaths
xo Pam, mom of Kelli = killed by two underage drunk drivers
& the three morons that sold alcohol to high school students.
