WESTMINSTER, Colorado – On September 19th, witnesses inside a Walmart in Westminster say they saw Kevin Salyers sexually assault a young girl, pick her up and try to flee the store. I say “try” because Kevin never made it out of the store. This was due to 22-year-old Cameron Aulner, who was working the Comcast table at the front of the store. He heard people yelling for someone to stop 34-year-old Salyers, but since no one was doing so, he tackled Salyers himself and helped hold him there until police arrived. Oh, forgot to mention, Aulner is in a wheelchair. “It was something that happened so fast, I didn’t even think about it,” Aulner said Tuesday. “I’m not a hero. I just did what you’re supposed to do.” Yeah man, you really did. Read on to check out some video.

Image and video hosting by TinyPicThis brings up the discussion that rears its head here on occasion. Obviously we have no idea who all witnessed this or what the age and physical capabilities of the bystanders where, so I am will not judge the people who stood around and watched – you know, the other shoppers there who had working legs. But it is interesting to read stories like this and wonder what you would do in a similar situation. Sure we get a lot of gung-ho “I’d do the same thing” type talk (I’m one of those) but do we truly know what we would do when faced with putting our very lives on the line for a stranger?

Either way, I am just glad that Cameron did what he did and if you ever find yourself rolling around NC, let me know and I’ll buy you a beer. When Morbid was asked if he had any comments in regards to Kevin Salyer, he stated, “Bwuahahahahahahaha! Man, oh man if you are guilty of what you have been charged with, you could not be more pathetic. First you are fucking with children, then you get your ass tackled by a guy in a wheelchair. If only you had made it out and made it to France.

Love this story..i emailed the video to a few people at work…

This is my first post here, been reading for awhile…

Just wanted to say, i am 5ft 10in tall 235 lbs, and really good shape, and feel i would seek out situations like this for fun!

My point here, sometimes bystanders are not reacting cause it all happens so fast. Case in point. I was in a mall. There was yelling up ahead, and this guy running full tilt down the aisle, several people in chase. It took me a second or two to register (yes..i am intelligent!), and that was not enough time to really do what i wish i had, but i did move in front of the guys way, causing him to stumble (he missed me) and crash into a guy a bit behind me, who took him down. He had stolen a purse.

If i could go back (yeah i know..was just a purse) it would have been a bit more fun for me!

Maybe the bystanders did not realize what was happening..maybe it seemed like a parent was taking a rowdy child out of the store..hard to say.

I am not defending people not acting, just giving and example of why that might happen…

    Loved this story though!

Spidey. You are absolutely right, we are taught from an early stage to proceed w/ caution. I mean one can’t fling webs at a group of screaming children only to discover they were just pretending to be cops and robbers. One can’t climb into someone’s bedroom window and tackle the naked guy off of the defenseless women only to discover those calls to god were really cries of passion!!
    I kid.

Welcome to this sight!! I too just joined(a couple days ago). Great place this is.

While my manicured french tips may prevent me from physically engaging I do have one helluva mean pitch and a fantastic instinct for reaching toward things made of heavy solid materiel, as evidenced by the stitches one needed after calling me a wetback… (Erhhm in my dream that is).

    Anyways, way to go Cameron!!

    Well done, Cameron!

The age of chivalry is not dead, the knight just exchanged the white steed for a four-wheel drive.

And I think Spiderman is right-on with his speculation as to the reasons for inaction: a) the speed with which these situations unfold, b) lack of comprehension of what is actually occurring.

I think both are much more common than mere fear that one might get hurt…….

Great job Cameron Aulner, you were superb! Only thing I wish you had done was planted an elbow to Kevin Salyers nose, busting it in the process!!

Hero’s do exist, even if Cameron is modest. If not to himself and the community, but only to that little girl. Now she knows there is a hero out there. If feel for her (i’m always feeling for a fellow victim). Now she’s gonna be afraid to go to the toy store. He robbed her of the comfort and safety she is intitled to. I hope his comfort and safety are robbed of him buy force while he is locked up with nowhere to go.

While i totally agree,Cameron IS an awsome person… having to ‘wonder where the people with the working legs’ were, and laughing at the guy BECAUSE he got ‘beat by a guy in a chair’,rather than simply for the fact a greasy pedo finally got taken down red handed by ANYONE,shows how much further we really need to come… …some peoples arms can work 10x better than other peoples legs, and brains, the longer people fail to realize this, and i have to seriously question who the ’special’ people reallly are…LOL

Most people are cowards (yes I said it) this is a brave young man who saved a child from only god knows what , what do you do after you get away with the abduction and rape? He probably saved her life because even if she was not killed she would have been emotionaly damaged and her course altered forever. In their defense the cowards (said it again) just standing by were probably afraid of getting charges of assault. Not just anyone is programed to act in the defense of others , only heros.
