Geraldine Shockley Is a Bad Caretaker

One day you are thanking your lucky stars that your babies are finally able to use the toilet without assistance and next thing you know, you are having to invest in adult diapers for your parents. seems so unfair sometimes. It’s a good thing that most of us love our families enough to gladly put up with this inconvenience. After all, they took care of us and allowed us to live when we were screaming toddlers and snotty teens, the least we could do is return the favor. Or at the very least hire someone to return the favor for us – someone like Geraldine Shockley, a caretaker hired by 94 year-old Bessie Borth and her family. Oh wait, Shockley wasn’t a great caretaker. Actually, she was a pretty shitty one. Borth was found dead, and it wasn’t from natural causes.

Early Wednesday Morning, Shockley called 911 saying that she found Borth dead on the floor of her apartment. When law enforcement arrived, they found Borth’s body at the bottom of a staircase with a broken lamp and coffee table strewn on top of her. Things looked hinky so they investigated a little further. After confronting Shockley about the inconsistencies, she stated that Borth had fallen down the stairs and when she didn’t die from the fall, she placed a pillow over her face and suffocated her. Upon further questioning, Shockley finally admitted to also being responsible for pushing Borth down the stairs.
Shockley is claiming to have snapped. She says the elderly woman was mean to her, using profanities and *gasp* using the Lord’s name in vain. Sounds about right. I mean, you can’t be expected to take that kind of abuse and not ever lose your shit. We are only human. Right?
WRONG. Apparently, Shockley was already under investigation for taking money from Borth’s banking accounts. It is alleged that she had stolen thousands of dollars from the woman. As investigators looked even deeper into her past, they found that the 78 year-old caretaker had served time in the early 80’s for shooting and killing someone in a domestic dispute. Not only that, they are looking into a couple of other cases where elderly persons have died while under her care. WowWow reviews. You would think that if she had some experience under her belt, she would not have carried out this murder like a bumbling idiot.
Who knows? Maybe at 78 years of age, she figured it was going to be her turn soon to require a caretaker and didn’t want to end up with someone like herself. Prison is about the same as some nursing homes in alot of peoples eyes and you can always count on others to watch out for your civil liberties while you are in there. Too bad. I think she deserves to be treated the same way she treated Ms. Borth, a vulnerable adult who depended on her to make sure she was safe and comfortable during her last years of life.

I wonder how many people have been victims of this bitch. Also, shouldn’t background checks be run before people are allowed to be caretakers.

The only thing that shocks me about this story is she was caught.
Either the world is full of professional thieves posing as care givers or the opportunity to take advantage of the elderly is too great to pass up. Pretty sure it’s the latter, but it might be 50/50.
The most blatant rob-you-blind to my personal knowledge was some in-laws that had to pay the care giver to leave the house she claimed was hers. They were lucky that she had not properly recorded the deed to the house. Undue influence, her patient had no idea what he was signing. But she had possession and a claim and wouldn’t leave. She could have tied them up in court for decades. The money and property she helped herself to, including the proceeds from an unneeded reverse mortgage, was not recoverable.
Beware of care givers with lawyer boyfriends!

I used to read Roald Dahl chronically, and in the book “George’s Marvelous Medicine,” there was a quote that so shocked and enthralled me as a 6-year old that I cannot forget the guilty delight. Wish I could remember exactly how it went, but something about the kid’s awful grandmother having a pursed mouth that looked like a dog’s butt.
When I saw her picture, that sprang right to mind.

Makes me sad. I work at a local community center, where I assist with “seniors” ( all of them above the age of 90, and still goin’ strong) in poker games, music and art. The “youngsters” (those below 90 but older than 70 are in the yoga, taichi and mild aerobics classes). I love my work cuz it gives me a chance to give back, and because I learn so much from people who have experienced life on this planet for far longer than I have. Just because youre old and infirm, it doesnt mean you cant contribute to the betterment of another human being, or that you have nothing of value to give to society in general. One centurian told me, “Most of the time, life’s ok, but I get angry and hurt when people act as if I’m invisible.” My grandmother once said “It’s hell gettin old, your body just wont cooperate any more.” And my other grandmother said “So often I dont understand why folks treat me like a cretin, but then I look in the mirror and I see how old I am. In my mind, I’m still young…in the minds of others, I’m a doddering old fool.” Rest assured everyone, our times a comin’ and growing old is better than dying young. Its amazing how much wisdom and truth can be found in the minds of the aged, and how profoundly gratifying it is ( for both parties involved) to find out who’s behind those wrinkles. And for Bessie…R.I.P. “Far Away from her, In the arms of an angel, may you find some comfort there.”

Bank (inconsistencies in the bank account) had called and they were investigating shockley, WHY in the hell was she still welcome in that condo ? Wow she must of been caring for her more then ….. 3 yrs. Unbelievable….

Lifetime con I wonder what we don’t know.Her actions show her not believing in Jehovahs name unless it’s for her goog.She won’t make queenpin status in prison unless she changes that or is an absolute badass and I doubt both. She my get off for pity for the elderly yet I hope not.Usery is serious enough but this being (at least) her second murder. Burn baby burn.
