LaRhonda McCall Had More Than Skeletons In Her Closet

I was meaning to put this one up the other day and then completely forgot about it until someone made a comment about the new Alice in Chains album and I instantly thought of Man in a Box and then this story. A security guard at a National Guard facility was approached by a teen wearing nothing but over sized shorts held up with a belt. He was hungry, covered with scars and wanted directions to the nearest police station so he could report he was being abused by his mother. That turned out to be an understatement if the rest of his claims are true, as he also told investigators that since moving to Oklahoma City from New Jersey he had spent the majority of the last four years in locked bedroom closets.

LaRhonda McCall Had More Than Skeletons In Her ClosetThe 14-year-old boy claimed that ever since his mother, 37-year-old LaRhonda Marie McCall, was released from prison four and a half years ago, he had been subjected to various forms of abuse on top of spending his life in the various closets of the apartments they moved into. He claimed that he had alcohol poured on him and set alight and that he was routinely tied up, hit with an extension cord and choked. Investigators have no reason to doubt his claims, especially since their are scars all over his body. “I personally have seen those photographs of the boy’s body, and he was subjected to a number of types of abuse,” police Sgt. Gary Knight said. “He was frequently locked in the closet for hours if not days at a time. He wasn’t allowed to leave, never attended school, never received medical attention.”

Seven other children lived with McCall, six of the minors were taken into custody of the Department of Human Services. None of them showed any signs of abuse. LaRhonda Marie McCall, 37, and a friend, Steve Vern Hamilton, 38, were arrested on 20 complaints each of child abuse and child neglect. Both remained jailed Tuesday on $400,000 bond.

      Jury, it’s not unusual for one child to be singled out for abuse while the rest are well fed and cared for. It’s happened in numerous cases where one child is tortured beyond belief and the rest don’t have a mark on them.

      True Kdogg, and the other kids are often quick to defend and/or deny their mothers actions as well, ofetn blaming the scapegoated child. This womans mugshot though…she looks down right scary and evil, like her soul is dead. Thank god he survived. This reminds me of that book ” A Child Called It”.

      Sometime last Friday afternoon, the boy, who is covered in scars, bruises and burns from when he was allegedly doused in alcohol and lit on fire, broke out of the closet and fled the apartment with the help of his eldest sister.

      Looks like his sister actually helped him escape!

      Officer Clark gave the boy an apple and a soda from his lunch-kit, while Officer Leslie Sanders called police. “The first thing he asked me was what was going to happen to his brothers and sisters,” Officer Sanders said. “He was very calm and well-mannered, always saying ‘Thank you, Sir’ and ‘Yes, M’am.’”

      “He had scars on his neck from being choked with an extension cord, and he was covered in bruises and stab wounds that were still healing,” Oklahoma City Police Sgt. Knight said, adding that the victim is now in the custody of the Department of Human Services. “This boy had been abused in the extreme. He was very happy that he was in the presence of police and that he was finally safe.“

      I bet he was happy, happy to know that he is free! Best wishes to him and his recovery!

      The mother and the boyfriend have admitted to the abuse, and even give more details on exactly what they did to this kid.

      In a probable cause affidavit released Wednesday, 37-year-old LaRhonda McCall told police she beat the teen numerous times on his chest, back and legs over the last three years. She told police she choked the teen and used a ruler and broom handle to beat him.

      McCall’s friend, 38-year-old Steve Hamilton, told police he beat the teen multiple times with a belt and wire cable and once struck him in the head with a tire jack.

      My husband saw this story on the news yesterday. I’ve brought up adoption in the past…sort of a “Maybe one day we can” type of thing. Since he saw that clip, he hasn’t stopped talking about the idea of it. I think he’d pick this boy up today if he could.

      and on top of it, only 400,000 bail, there should not be any – not even for the b/f damn a tire iron … what the fuck – investigation before any of the kids are returned to the home – what is the fuck wrong here…. is this just Oklahoma thats so naive ?

      Ciara, who weighed just 14 pounds and could not walk or crawl, died there a week later, according to the report.

      The charges also allege McCall tortured her son in various ways. She once allegedly tied him naked to a ladder and pouring sugar water over him in order to attract insects. Another time, the charges allege, she poured alcohol on him and lit it on fire, burning the boy. She also allegedly forced him to stand barefoot in the snow for more than 45 minutes. McCall and Hamilton were being held in the Oklahoma County jail on $400,000 bond each. Charging documents did not list an attorney for Hamilton or McCall, and the Oklahoma County prosecutor’s office did not immediately return a call left after hours Thursday.
      The boy, malnourished and covered in bruises and scars, sought help from a security guard at a National Guard armory on Sept. 25. The teen told police he spent most of the last 4 1/2 years locked inside bedroom closets at various apartments where the family lived and never attended school or received medical attention, authorities said.
      The teenager’s 18-year-old sister, Jaleasa McCall, told The Associated Press last month that she would bring her brother food and sympathy, but didn’t have the courage to contact the authorities.
      The boy and his six younger siblings have been placed in Department of Human Services custody.
      Managers of the last two apartment complexes where the family most recently lived said they occasionally saw some of McCall’s seven other children but never saw the teenage boy.
      McCall was convicted of second-degree manslaughter in New York in 1996 in the death of her 2-year-old daughter and served six months jail time. Prosecutors in that case alleged McCall, who then went by LaRhonda Presley, essentially starved the toddler who died in February 1995, according to a New York grand jury indictment obtained by the AP.

      The mother is accused in one child abuse count of pouring rubbing alcohol on the boy and setting him on fire. Another time, she allegedly tied him naked to a ladder in a garage and poured sugar water “on his body in order to attract biting insects.”

      She allegedly once forced him to stand barefoot in the snow for more than 45 minutes and another time stand barefoot on a patch of ice in a garage for more than two hours. This year, she allegedly stabbed him in the shoulder with a knife.

      Both allegedly forced him to stand on one foot with a cord around his neck and around his raised right ankle so that he would choke if he put his right foot down. Police reported the mother admitted the boy “was left like this for about an hour.” Hamilton also allegedly once hit the boy in the head with a tire iron.

      About the fire, Hamilton on Oct. 1 told police “he saw LaRhonda purposely pour rubbing alcohol all over B.M.’s body,” according to a court affidavit. “Steve stated LaRhonda had a lighter in her hand and when B.M. moved he was lit on fire. Steve stated B.M. ‘had a blue flame over his entire body.’ Steve stated B.M. was burned on his butt and his ear. However, B.M. was not taken to a hospital.”

      Police reported McCall said she accidentally poured rubbing alcohol on her son and he caught on fire when she lit incense.

      You Police officers take car of this boy now, maybe one of you can be his foster father now. jut dont go molesting him… I have a 14 year old stepson having problems right now, but hell, I wouldnt beat him or starve him, I sometimes feel like kicking his smart mouthed ass but could never, his mom abandoned him when he was a baby, he calls me Ma now, I know he has problems, he still loves her and even if he calls me Ma, he still thinks of her as his “real” Ma, yesterday me and his father had an argument, Mister didnt want me to take him to get fast food, he said he was hungry, Mister said let him eat whatever is in the house, I took him to get super nachos… that is what he wanted, even though he is not my son I cant deny him anything, so any excuse for this is unexcusable, I never beat him when he was a baby when he would throw fits and slap me in the face, he wanted his real mom so would smack the fuck out of me many times with his bottle even, he would scream for hours and even though I felt like smacking him, I never did, 14 is the age where a boy is starting to become a man, I had sons of my own, I know 14 is that magic age where boys grow balls,he at least still calls me Ma, I could not imagine abusing him, ever, hell he wouldnt let me abuse him… go young boy, get your new life, I know he is fucked in the head now but you have to admire him for getting out of there like he did….
