A Nightmare On Elm Street Trailer
September 28, 2009 by Morbid
The trailer for the latest classic horror icon to get the reboot treatment has finally arrived, and it doesn’t look too bad. Fans of the Nightmare series are hemming and hawing over Robert Englund not being the actor adorning the green-and-red striped sweater, fedora and legendary glove but personally I don’t care too much one way or the other. I think Jackie Earle Haley will do a fine job. However, this is Platinum Dunes we are talking about and they hare responsible for rebooting\remaking other horror franchises like Texas Chainsaw MassacreThe Texas Chainsaw Massacre reviews
, Amityville Horror, The HitcherThe Hitcher reviews
and Friday the 13thFriday the 13th reviews
. I thought they all stunk. Not because I am against remakes or feel they take away from the originals as in some cases remakes are damn good (The ThingThe Thing reviews
, Hills Have EyesThe Hills Have Eyes reviews
, The FlyThe Fly reviews
, Dawn of the DeadDawn of the Dead (2004) reviews
anyone?), but simply because these movies were God-awful pieces of shit. So no matter how decent the following trailer looks, I just cannot shake the feeling that like their previous entries, this movie end up sucking ass.
Not too bad, huh? Looks like they are including some famous death scenes from the original like the memorable death of Tina Grey. I even like the way this version of Freddy looks. Not having lips is a nice touch. So sound off, who thinks this will follow the same route the other Platinum Dunes remakes have gone, or do you think that this one may actually stand a chance? I will reserve judgment until I see it, of course, but I think history is doomed to repeat itself. Samuel Bayer’s directing career has been mostly music videos and the script was written by the guy who penned DoomDoom reviews
. But I want this to be good. I really do. Mostly because Platinum Dunes has a couple other classics rumored for the remake treatment – The BirdsThe Birds reviews
and Near DarkNear Dark reviews
. If they can actually churn out a decent Nightmare flick, then at least there is hope they wont fuck those two up like the majority of their remakes. Not that it really matters, as every one of these Platinum Turds have turned nice profits – and in the end, that is really all that matters.

Nightmare was my favorite of the 70’s/80’s franchises so I just don’t want to be disappointed. I don’t like the idea of remaking Birds. I have yet to enjoy any of the Hitchcock remakes.

Here’s hoping that it doesn’t suck ass.

I, like many, was a huge Nightmare fan growing up. I’m excited that they’re getting back to the dark, evil, scary roots, and extremely excited with JEH wearing the fedora.
My hopes are high, so I pray they don’t screw this up…

I imagine you are right, adorkable, but again – with the “talent” behind this I don’t think even Haley can save it. I think it will follow the same path as the other films Platinum Dunes has had a hand in. It won’t be great, it won’t be horrible (like the RZ Halloween flicks) but it will be underwhelming and over the course of time – forgettable. Oh, and it will make them a ton of cash.

These movies were God-awful pieces of shit – the only thing Amityville Horror had worth watching was the ever-gorgeous and hot Ryan Reynolds.
I think JEH is a great choice for Freddy, but don’t have a lot of confidence that Platinum Dunes can pull it off successfully.
I wish I could watch videos at work….damn internet Nazis!

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) – crap
The Amityville Horror (2005) – bigger crap
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006) – crap… Read More
The Hitcher (2007) – worse than crap
Friday the 13th (2009) – forgettable
And for the future?
The Hunger (2010)
A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)
Near Dark (2010)
The Birds (2010)
It’s quite apparent what they are doing. They are snagging classics, even the cult classics, slapping something together that resembles a film and then making shitloads of cash of the teen crowd and fans of the originals.

c’mon. it’s michael bey directing, and jackie earle haley is a hell of an actor. watch some of his other work(watchmen, little children, the day of the locust) and tell me he isn’t a good choice for freddy. of course theres going to be some level of “teen” actor fuckery, but, they have to appeal to the expendable income market the studios are shooting for.

Michael Bay is not directing. If he was, then it would truly suck.

I was going to comment on this review yesterday. I had spent an hour typing up my remark I had went into great detail and even ranted for a little while but as i was finishing up I accidentally hit escape and all that hard work was gone forever. So in my oppinion this movie maybe good maybe crap this studio has a pretty bad track record all I know is that I dont really like new people taking on role’s like Freddy’s It would have been nice to just see a new Nightmare On Elm Street movie with Robert Englund. Why should you try to fix things that aren’t broken? It’s all about the money and appealing to a new generation by watering down what made the originals so great. It’s horrible did anyone see the remake for The last House On The Left? It was craptastic! The story line not too bad but where was the gore and the eating of a certian body pary? I mean WTF! The good guy had the villian head on a stick and all he could think to do was put his head into a microwave and turn it on. What??!! Are you serious? If it had been my little girl he raped I assure you I would have put hot sauce in his eyes took a drill to his teeth maybe smeared some fecal matter on his upper lip put needles in his ear drums made him watch as I dismember him maybe gave him a labodamy of some kind. This list could go on for as long as it took him to bleed out. These remakes latley have been lacking and thats just me being nice about it. So I hear they are going to remake Hellraiser and not have Doug Bradley play the part of Pinhead I also hear an Evil Dead remake is in the works with no Bruce Campbell and wont even have the Ash character in it period. What they need to do is stop messing with my favorite movies and make another dance or teen movie to make their money instead. If I could choose one movie to be remade with state of the art graphics it would be Clive Barker’s Night Breed as long as they did it right it would be freekin sweet just dont let Michael Bay catch wind of it because by god he will screw it up. Well Demonites now that I have that out of my system I feel a little better.

The problem is, the Nightmare on Elm Street movies WERE broken. The first couple in the series were great but after that it became, literally, a joke.
As far as the Hellraiser remake, Clive Barker is 100% involved this time and wants it to be more like his original telling. Even in the original movie, Pinhead wasn’t a focal point. The sequels made Pinhead the focus and he ended up spouting one-liners by the end of the way-too-long series. Doug Bradley is who we think of when we think Pinhead (and Englund as Freddy as well), but that doesn’t mean they ARE those characters. A great actor can make any character, iconic or not, their own.
