Seems that truck, with primer paint all over and pipes above the bed would standout in anyones mind. If it’s already been painted, even. People would still remember it being that way. It being this long that no one has come forward, yet, with a name or description of a person with that truck, possibly means they are waiting for a larger reward for information.

    I’m praying for you Tabitha!

That’s what I’m thinking too. Additionally – I think that type of truck won’t get but 15 – 18 mpg max. Hope they ask gas stations within a radius of 300 mi to do a voluntary check of their video tapes for the truck for last Sunday.

Dr. Keegee: Smart thinking! Let’s hope the Investigators did that….

A violent struggle took place in the Gee family murders, which may have left the person or persons responsible for the slayings injured, according to Logan County Sheriff Steve Nichols..

In a statement released on Saturday, Nichols asked the public to “look at everyone they know and/or may encounter that may have recent injuries especially to their arms, head and upper body.”

“It is, however, possible that there could be injuries anywhere on their body,” said Nichols. “The types of injuries may include cuts, lacerations, bruises, contusions, abrasions and/or loss of hair.”

    DNA, then??

    An arrest has been made…

Logan County Sheriff Steve Nichols says an arrest has been made in the murders of five people in Beason, Illinois month. Christopher J. Harris, 30, of McClean County, Illinois was arrested just after 4pm Thursday.

Deputies say Harris was in possession of the unusually outfitted grey pickup truck they had been looking for since the killings happened on September 21. Nichols goes on to say that forensic evidence at the scene ties Harris to the five killings. He would not specify how.

Harris, the sheriff says, did know his victims, but, again, he would not get into details regarding the relationship.

Court records in Logan County indicated Nicole Gee, daughter of one of the victims, was married to a Christopher J. Harris, who at the time was a Beason resident. Gee filed divorce papers against Harris and the the marriage was dissolved in 2007. Her grounds for divorce were mental cruelty, and a judge ruled in her favor.

The records go on to show a number of hearings regarding child support. The pair was last in court in May of this year.

The suspect, Chris Harris, is the ex-husband of a surviving daughter of the Gee family.

wonderful news found the trunk, they must of had blood evidence because they expected the person to have injuries. Orginally were asking the public, if they knew of someone injuried or owned a truck with tailpipes vertically proturding from the wheel wells…

The part that gets me is divorce due to mental cruelty

Nicole Gee, daughter of one of the victims, was married to a Christopher J. Harris, who at the time was a Beason resident. Gee filed divorce papers against Harris and the the marriage was dissolved in 2007. Her grounds for divorce were mental cruelty, and a judge ruled in her favor.

I am thinking – she would be Rick’s daughter from previous marriage, that I expected to raise Tabitha – I need to backtract threw the comments from people who knew the family.

Woman who sold suspect truck says he’s innocent

    http://www.pantagraph.com/news/local/article_4dc938e8-aee8-11de-b63d-001cc4c03286.html

A relative who reportedly sold Beason slayings suspect Christopher Harris a pickup truck that’s been seized by police says Harris is innocent and plans to hire an attorney from Chicago.

The Illinois secretary of state’s office said Friday the truck remains titled to Jennifer Earnest of Armington, who told The Pantagraph she is the fiancee of Harris’ brother. She said Harris was innocent.

“He didn’t do it,” Earnest said. “The family is trying to hire a lawyer from Chicago because he didn’t do this.”

    Earnest declined further comment.

Earnest told The Associated Press that she sold the truck to Christopher Harris. The secretary of state’s office says a request to change the license plate was made Sept. 16 by an unknown person.

    ———-

Harris had formerly worked at Dixie Travel Plaza in McLean, where he worked the register at the fuel desk, said general manager Tina Kletz. She said a McLean County sheriff’s deputy stopped there last week and asked employees to look for any similar vehicle.

The truck looked familiar to Kletz, but she couldn’t place it, she told The Pantagraph on Friday morning. The next day, an employee told Kletz, that Harris drove a similar truck.

“She had goosebumps on her arms when she told me,” Kletz said.

The plaza employees then reported the similarity to the sheriff’s department, Kletz said.

Harris told Kletz he was a contractor who couldn’t get any work when he applied for the job at the truck stop.

“He was kind of quiet and he was polite,” Kletz said. “He seemed like a good kid to me.”

But Harris quit June 28. Kletz said it was “because he was going fishing. That just told me what kind of person he was right there” because he would quit without notice.

    ———

Nichols said Harris was arrested Thursday afternoon at the Logan County Safety Complex. Nichols did not elaborate on why he was there.

my guess he quit because they were garnishing his wages for child support

Second memorial service for Rick Gee planned

A second memorial service for the Rick Gee family will be held Sunday evening at Park Meadows Baptist Church in Lincoln.

The church at 800 Memorial Park Road has ties to the family, including Ruth Gee and her 16-year-old daughter, Justina Constant.

Rev. S.M. Davis, pastor at the church, said Ruth Gee’s mother, Frances Constant, requested the service, which will begin at 6 p.m.

“In particular, the members of Park Meadows Baptist Church will have the opportunity to share testimonies about Justina Constant who rode the bus to church the day before she died,” he said in an e-mail.

There is a family photo on the bulletin

Miller said she stays in frequent contact with Tabitha’s older sister, Nicole Gee, who lives down the street from Rick and Ruth Gee’s home.

Miller said she had spent a lot of time reconnecting with Dillen recently after spending years apart. Dillen is the son of Ruth Gee and Miller’s father, Gerald Miller, who lives in Lincoln.

2 photos of Chris Harris being lead from the Logan county courthouse
in black and white stripe, attack decribed as brutal and violent stuggle.
The judges name is Harris no relation.

    http://pantagraph.com/news/local/article_c327bdb0-af99-11de-8ea0-001cc4c002e0.html

Christopher J. Harris is led out of the Logan County Courthouse, Friday, October 2, 2009, after he was charged with five counts of murder and one count of attempted murder in the deaths of a Beason family.

Harris bowed his head and cried as Judge Thomas Harris (no relation) read the six counts that alleged the defendant struck the victims in the head with the intent of killing them.

Police have said the case remains under investigation, and they left open the possibility of more arrests. They also have not disclosed a possible motive in the case.

Logan County officials have listed Harris as being a McLean County resident, but did not list a specific hometown. Other sources have shown he has had addresses in Armington and in Logan County.

Logan County State’s Attorney Mike McIntosh said Harris sometimes lived with his ex-wife in Beason – just up the street from the crime scene – and sometimes with relatives.

The suspect spoke three times during the seven-minute hearing, answering “Yes, sir” when the judge asked if he was Christopher J. Harris, if he would like to retain public defender Patrick Timoney as his attorney and if he understood the charges against him.

Each first-degree murder charge carries a potential prison sentence ranging from 20 to 60 years in prison, but conviction on multiple counts would make him eligible for life in prison or the death penalty.

    —————

He is being held without bond and is sheduled to return to court Tuesday. A Christopher Harris matching his description and having an Armington address was listed Friday night as being held in McLean County jail on behalf of another police agency, but officials would not confirm it was him.

Relatives, friends share memories of slain family
    Loading…

During the service Sunday night, the Gee family members were remembered as supporting each other through their difficulties.

The cremains of Ruth Gee and Justina were placed at the front of the church, where about 170 people gathered.

In speaking of the slayings, Pastor S.M. Davis told the congregation, “Whoever did this, God will deal with him.”

Davis also urged the congregation to pray for the Gees’ 3-year-old daughter, Tabitha, who survived and was recovering at a Peoria hospital.

Ruth Gee’s nephew, Samuel Constant, told the crowd that he remembers Rick Gee as a “quiet man” who did not retaliate when given grief.

Constant expressed respect for Gee for raising Justina and Dillen even though he was not their biological father.

“It takes a real man to be a father to children that aren’t even his,” he said.

Constant described Dillen as a “very wild child” who loved sports.

Stormee Whitney, 16, a close friend to Justina, expressed sadness that Dillen was slain just as he was beginning to mature.

“That attitude of his” was starting to improve, and he had begun to defend his sister when children ridiculed her, she said. She described him giving Stormee a hug for the first time shortly before the deaths. She described Justina as very talkative and happy.

“We got to forgive,” Dwight Reed, a former co-worker of Rick Gee, told the congregation. “This is a time for forgiving. Don’t let hatred fill your hearts.”

Reed, who is black, said Gee befriended him even though such a friendship was “unusual in those days.”

Neighbor Marjorie Wright recalled Austin playing with her son. She smiled as she told the crowd Austin once convinced her son to wear a dress and makeup.

Davis read a poem, “Memories of the Innocents,” which Angie Pitts of Beason wrote. The poem, which began by describing Beason as a small town in which children can happily play, went on to characterize Justina as a loving sister and awkward teenager who forgave children who teased her.

Her reading ended: “Handsome Dillen on his bike,/With a twinkle in his eyes;/His mischievous smile gone but not forgotten/For he and his family Beason cries.”

Pastor: Thousands of dollars have been raised
LINCOLN — Thousands of dollars have been raised for the Gee Family Memorial Fund, says the pastor of the Beason Methodist Church.

“The money is still coming in and we don’t have an exact total, but we do know that it’s in the thousands,” said Dayle Badman. “Some of the churches in Lincoln are also having special collections, but we have been thrilled with the response so far.”

Badman said funds raised will help pay funeral expenses as well as medical expenses for the family’s 3-year-old daughter Tabitha,

Donations can be sent to the First United Methodist Church of Lincoln, 302 Broadway, Lincoln, IL 62656.

The fund drive will continue as long as money continues to come in, Badman said.

“We have received donations from all over the country,” she said. “People have been very generous, even those from far away who have no connection with the family. But they have heard about the suffering this family has endured and want to help.”

“The community has been very helpful and that’s one reason why we have been able to keep the costs as low as possible,” said funeral home director Chuck Fricke. “We have never had to deal with a funeral this big, but a lot of people stepped up to help and that is something everyone appreciates.”

A posting on a MySpace page attributed to Nicole Gee says “there’s not a doubt in my mind” that her ex-husband is innocent of the killings of her father, her father’s wife and three of their children.

Her former husband, Christopher J. Harris, 30, been charged with five counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Raymond “Rick” Gee, his wife, Ruth, and children Justina Constant, 16, Dillen Constant, 14 and Austin Gee, 11, inside their home in Beason. Harris also faces an attempted murder charge for allegedly trying to kill another child, 3-year-old Tabitha Gee, who survived the attack.

Harris, who is being held in the Logan County Jail without bond, will have another court appearance on Tuesday.

“All this is such a mess, and it is not right at all,” according to a Saturday night post on the MySpace page. The page has existed for more than a year, and the information on it is consistent with accounts from relatives and friends. Attempts to reach Gee on Sunday were unsuccessful.

Gee has not spoken publicly since the murders were discovered Sept. 21.

She and Harris were divorced in 2007, but relatives and Beason residents have said the couple continued to have an on-and-off-again relationship. Harris reportedly often stayed at Nicole Gee’s home, just a few blocks from where the slayings took place. Harris and Gee have a 9-year-old daughter and an 8-week-old son.

“(I’ve) known him (since) I was 14v (sic) years old and very, very well. He is and always has been a great father to his kids,” according to the MySpace post. “In all our years he never laid a hand on me, never even raised a hand to me. Not even once did he spank our little girl, I always had to be the bad guy because he is soft-hearted.

“Now not only has my children lost 5 very close family members but (their) daddy is being set up and taken away, this is too much,” it said.

The posting also questioned how Harris could have committed the murders, which took place sometime before the bodies were found about 4:30 p.m. Sept. 21.

“(I’d) like to know how in the world the(y) can say he and him only killed our family when there is hard solid evidence of all 6 of them fighting for (their) lives and Chris had not even the slightest nik (sic) on his body anywhere,” according to the post.

Authorities have said the killer or killers probably were injured during a “violent struggle.”

Harris was arrested Thursday afternoon in Lincoln.

Logan County Sheriff Steve Nichols has not said what led authorities to suspect Harris, except that the arrest was based on analysis of evidence from the crime scene.

“He had been by our side through all this in every possible way and now they took him from us too,” it said.

Harris was with Nicole Gee at the family’s funeral in Mount Pulaski on Sept. 28. According to Harris’ stepmother, Debbie Harris, Chris Harris also accompanied Gee when she visited Tabitha at a Peoria hospital, where she is hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

Three people, including the brother of accused murderer Christopher Harris, have been charged with obstructing justice in connection with the killings of five members of the Raymond “Rick” Gee family of Beason.

Logan County Sheriff Steve Nichols announced the charges this evening.

Those charged are Jason L. Harris, 22, and his girlfriend, Jennifer C. Earnest, 24, both of Armington, and Sarah A. Duncan, 43, of Sarasota, Fla., who Nichols identified as Earnest’s mother.

Nichols declined to say what led to the obstruction charges. He said the investigation is continuing.

Nichols said Wednesday that 3-year-old Tabitha Gee, who survived the attacks, is in fair condition in a Peoria hospital.

Christopher Harris was staying at the home Jason Harris and Earnest share in Armington about the time of the murders, although he also often spent time at the home of his ex-wife, Nicole Gee, in Beason.

The Harris brothers’ stepmother, Debbie Harris, said last week that Christopher Harris often stayed with his younger brother when he and Nicole Gee had problems.

“Nicole was still having a real hard time with her family, so she snapped at Chris, and whenever she snapped at Chris, he comes over to Jason and Jenny’s,” Debbie Harris said on Friday, the day after Chris Harris was arrested. “So he went and spent a few nights at Jason and Jenny’s. That’s where he was,”

Harris and Gee divorced in 2007, but have been together on-and-off since then. They have an 8-week-old son and a 9-year-old daughter.

The Harris family and Nicole Gee say Chris Harris is innocent. Asked about their statements Wednesday, Nichols declined to comment.

Debbie Harris, who is married to Ed Harris, father of Chris and Jason, told The State Journal-Register Monday that her family has been cooperating with the police “in really everything,” including searches of the homes of Chris Harris’ father and brother.

In an earlier interview, she said investigators had been to the home of Jason Harris and Earnest at least four times.

Nichols said Jason Harris and Earnest were arrested at the Logan County Safety Complex in Lincoln Wednesday, while Duncan was taken into custody in Sarasota.

Logan County court records show that Jason Harris plead guilty to perjury stemming from a complaint filed in July 2007. He was sentenced to 30 months probation and 60 days in jail.

No schedule yet for court appearances

LINCOLN — Logan County State’s Attorney Mike McIntosh said Wednesday court appearances have not been scheduled for three people accused of obstructing the police investigation of the murders of five members of the Rick Gee family.

McIntosh also said he couldn’t elaborate on the nature of the charges against Jason Harris, Jennifer Earnest and Sara Duncan.

Logan County public defender Tim Timoney of Springfield, who is representing the accused murderer, Christopher Harris, said he’s not sure whether the additional arrests will affect the case against his client.

“How does that affect Chris’ case?” Timoney said. “I don’t know right now, because I’m limited as to the facts that I have concerning the case. I don’t know, just like you don’t know, how they’re alleged to have obstructed in the investigation.

“I would anticipate … the three new defendants would be brought to court and, at least in the charging document, that would have a little bit more information as to why (authorities) believe they’ve obstructed this investigation.”

Timoney also would not say what, if any, contact Chris Harris has had with his brother since the arrest took place.

    Victim’s father shocked by arrest

LINCOLN – The father of one of the victims was among roughly 75 people who attended Wednesday’s news conference about three new arrests in connection with the murders of five people in Beason last month.

Dillen Constant’s father, Gerald Miller of Lincoln, said it would be an understatement to say he was shocked when he learned that Christopher Harris had been charged with killing his son, who lived with his mother, Ruth Gee, in the home where the murders took place.

Miller described Rick and Ruth Gee as “very nice people.” He said he would have “pulled Dillen out of there in a minute” if he thought Rick Gee was not a good man.

Miller said he doesn’t know Harris and had never heard Dillen talk about him.

“We just have to let the law handle it,” he said. “I have all the faith in the law.”

    – Amanda Reavy

In an earlier post Gerald’s daughter by another woman spoke about her half brother Dillen. She commented that she is close to Nicole, surely she knows Chris Harris, Nicole’s husband and so would Dillen. Dillen and the Gee family living so close to where Chris Harris stays with Nicole on again off again. They currently have a 8 week old baby, son and a 9 year old daughter.

Makes ya wonder much time Dillen spent with his dad Gerald.

    DCFS custody

Rick and Ruth’s first child together, Jessica, is disabled and lives at a Peoria facility where she receives full-time care.

A court has granted temporary custody of Tabitha and Jessica Gee to the state’s Department of Children and Family Services, said agency spokesman Kendall Marlowe, declining further comment.

Parents, ex-wife defend Beason slayings suspect

Harris, 30, was charged Friday with killing five members of his ex-wife’s family and critically injuring the sole survivor, a 3-year-old girl. No family members were at Friday’s court appearance in Logan County.

But Debbie Harris, the suspect’s stepmother, says the family believes he is innocent and only missed the hearing because they didn’t know about it.

“My husband (Ed) cried: ‘Chris is gonna think we deserted him,’” Debbie Harris told The Pantagraph on Monday.

Chris Harris’ ex-wife, Nicole Gee, who is the older daughter of the slain family’s father, will join Harris’ family Tuesday in court, Debbie Harris said. Others from Gee’s family may join her, she said.

On Saturday, Nicole Gee posted a message on what appears to be her page on the social networking site MySpace, saying she doesn’t believe Harris killed her family and that he is not a violent person – a description echoed by other relatives since the arrest.

Gee and Harris divorced in 2007 but were trying to reconcile, relatives say. They have a 9-year-old daughter and an 8-week-old son, and Debbie Harris said her stepson was very supportive of the family in the days after the slayings.

“Now not only has my children lost 5 very close family members but there [sic] daddy is being set up and taken away this is too much,” Nicole Gee wrote.

Debbie and her husband Ed, who is Chris’ father, both spoke to Harris on the phone from jail. Debbie Harris said he appeared stunned that he’s been charged with the brutal slayings, and he’s fearful for his family.

“He said, ‘Dad, I’m scared, because I know the killers are out there,’” said Debbie Harris, who lives outside Lincoln in Logan County. “Chris swears to me he didn’t do it.”

Debbie Harris said Nichols “has been very nice. … I do not want people thinking I don’t have faith in the police,” she said.

She said she and her husband would stand behind police if they are proven to be “100 percent” sure and have forensic evidence to back it up.

“But I told (Nichols) if there’s any doubts whatsoever, I expect you to stand behind (Chris Harris) and help him,” she said.

“The sheriff assured me this case isn’t over, not by a long shot.”

I just read last evening that Nicole’s ex-husband and his younger brother were both charged with the murders. The motive was to rape the 16 year old girl and rob them. They went armed with a tire iron. I tried to find this arcticle in local pages and I couldn’t. Maybe someone who can do the research and knows how to post links could check this out. Thank you.

Christopher and Jason Harris invaded the home of the Gee family in Beason armed with a tire iron and attempted to sexually assault one of the victims during a grisly attack that left five family members dead, according to indictments made public Wednesday.

The brothers also stole a laptop computer that belonged to Rick or Ruth Gee, the indictments say.

Both Harris brothers also face one count of attempted criminal sexual assault for an alleged attack on Justina Constant, as well as charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery of a child connected to the severe injuries of a fourth child, Tabitha Gee, 3.
