Troy West Proves He’s Such a Bad Ass

Morro, Georgia – People are rude and common courtesies have gone completely out of the window. It has turned into a fast paced “me me me” world out there. And chivalry is damn near unheard of now as the old timers die off and their mannerisms lost. One of my favorite op-ed pieces opined on the return of gentlemanliness on the wake of 9-11 and that it was perhaps the women that killed it to begin with by having to prove, as a gender, we were strong enough by making complete asses out of ourselves and embarrassing the men who tried to be kind. I really hope this isn’t the reason Troy West beat the shit out of a woman when she asked him to be careful and why none of the witnesses stepped up to help until after the cops came.

Perhaps this sort of thing doesn’t happen too often or perhaps I’m a fairly lucky loudmouth. I don’t know how many times I’ve muttered some comment or come right on out loud and clear with a smart-ass remark when someone is blatant with their lack of manners. I’m lucky in the fact I’ve never run into some psycho like Troy West who beat the piss out of some lady who respectfully asked him to be careful as he barged out of the Cracker Barrel and the door came close to striking her 7 year-old daughter.

All the witness accounts state this woman politely addressed West before he flipped his lid and began to beat this woman in front of her daughter. West responded by telling her she needed to “watch her fucking daughter” and calling her a “fucking black nigger bitch” before punching her in the face. He allegedly threw her to the ground and continued beating her head with his fists and feet while continuing to scream racial slurs at her. I’m not sure why she thought her status of being an American Soldier would make him stop, but she tried to explain that fact as she was being assaulted.

The police arrived and detained Troy West. They also were assisted by Cracker Barrel turning over surveillance tapes and the heroic efforts of eye witness who were willing able to take the time to provide written statements on what went down. They saw everything but seemed to do nothing until the police arrived. Me? I think that’s pretty fucking shitty.

This case has now been referred to the FBI’s Civil Rights Division for a possible violation of the Federal Hate Crime Law. Troy West has been charged with battery, disorderly conduct, and cruelty to children in the first degree.

As far as no one assisting in this brutal assault, most of the people that go to Cracker Barrel are about 75 years old. I go myself on occasion, and if I’d seen something like this going on, this fool would be wearing a rocking chair as a hat and leaving in an ambulance, not a police car. Assholes like this give white people a bad name.

I think the point, dracena, is not to admonish her inability to fend this guy off, but rather, to condemn this mans behavior. He's the one who committed the crime in this instance, not the U.S. Military or this woman. You imply that she failed as a mother and a soldier to heed his impending attack, and in the next breath, you say that your comment has nothing to do with her as a woman. Well, thats part of who she IS as a woman..a mother and a soldier. As for your observation that her inability to 'read people' played a part this one sided brutal attack, well, I guess you could say the same for countless other victims of unprovoked, violent assaults. An 'idiot on the street with a bad attitude' has ended or devastated the life of more than one intelligent, aware, and strong individual.

Soldiers in Afghanistan aren’t going to stop a nuclear missile launch in Iran. It’s not the soldiers fault, they are just following orders. You know, we had Osama Bin Laden in an American Hospital over seas in June of 2001. He was treated and let go.

Perhaps you missed it but this Story isnt about The war or the military Im pretty sure theres a thread in the forums where you can voice your opinions on that...

I must not have known that you have been to THIS Cracker Barrel..I have one directly beside me without a see-thru door...Furthermore a rude person who slams open a door isnt usually expected to just jump out and attack another person...Ive been hit with plenty a door and usually what i get when I say "Excuse Me" or "Careful Please' is a grumbled apology or a dirty look...I cant imagine that ANYONE would expect a man to attack someone like that for something as simple as a polite request to be careful.

and again as far as military training goes the fact of the matter is she may have been less than half his size and Im sorry, no matter how much training someone has youre not gonna take someone down who is twice your size without at least being forewarned of an attack..

and although, yes, soldiers are trained in Unarmed Combat (UAC) in Basis training (at least in the Army) the emphasis is put mostly on weapons training..and as a wonderful poster pointed out..Im sure she forgot to pack up her M16 or Bayonet when on a family trip to the local Cracker Barrel

In all, I have to say your post is just offensive and not too sensical..Have some repect..Whether you agree with the war or not..those are brave men and women over there putting their lives on the line for whatever the cause.

No, it doesn't diminish the seriousness of the crime. I just thought people trained to kill would do better than some idiot on the street with a bad attitude. Her first cue to alert would have been when he slammed open the door. Whether or not anything ensued after that, he was already pissed off at his tiny wiener and physically taking out his aggression on the door. The doors there I'm pretty sure one can see through so, he saw the girl, blew open the door with no regard, and lost it on this woman because she corrected him.

She must not know how to read people because if she wanted to avoid a confrontation, she wouldn't have said anything. A pissed off redneck is likely to snap on anyone. As a soldier, and as a mother protecting her child she had fair warning to react.

My comment on her inability to protect herself had nothing to do with her as a woman. It was strictly a comment on the quality of the training of our armed forces. I'm sorry your husband is out there. I'm sorry for anyone who is out there. I resent that statement as my husband is in the military over in "the sandbox" himself right now...have some respect for our brave men and women..

That being said..lord only knows how big this woman was and he seems to be quite a large man..fact of the matter is..in an unexpected attack a person who is far outweighed is gonna have a bit of trouble deterring an unexpected attack...Now if they were boxed up and ready to fight I would think she'd have gotten at least a few licks in if not been able to incapacitate him

Point being, this woman was ATTACKED and instead of talking about what a douche knozzle this guy is youre insulting her (and our troops to boot) about her inability to defend herself..

Does the fact that she is in the military somehow diminidh the severity and seriousness of what happened to her cause well shes military she shoulda been able to protect herself?

I dont think being in a combat zone compares in any way to an outing with one's very young daughter. When you know that death or killing is imenent, the mind and body are in an entirely different state alltogether. Guess she wasnt packing her M-16 or bayonent on this occasion either.

as far as the patrons not stepping in, shame. This reminds me of a story i heard last year where a man was beating his one year old on the side of the road viciously, and i believe six people stopped and "couldn't" stop him. Bullshit. Six people could have stopped Andre the giant! same this applies here. that little girl had to watch her mother get a beating because 1. the guy is a POS douche bag, and 2. no one stepped in!! why would you not help someone in need!

This is one of those times when a cheap shot is acceptable. Get a running start from behind and just blindside him. But... my cousin told me how he saw a huge guy beating a woman at a Brooklyn subway stop and nobody intervened, but then four cops wailing on him with nightsticks had no effect (PCP, maybe), so there are also situations where intervention really would be a bad idea.

I think more the question of this being a hate crime against a black person is, is this a hate crime against a woman? One way or the other, take it being a woman into account, the man took it upon himself to beat down someone clearly weaker than him. If she was white, he could have called her all sorts of things offensive, he just never would have used the word redneck cracker because it would have been brashing his own kind.

I am pretty sure that when I die it will be from protecting someone else, if I see anything I'm the first to step up, surprisingly once one person does others follow. I've been called more names and told to shut the fuck up more times than I care to admit. I am not saying that I'm better than anyone else, but I would never stand around to watch it, if they are beating one person up, they are beating two people up. I couldn't stand knowing that I watched it happen. And whoever mentioned the Kitty Genovese story, is absolutely right, those people closed their blinds while she was getting murdered!!!!

because unless you big enough to gently hold on to the asshole, he can sue you for attacking him, the lawsuit happy crowd in this country and the judges that allow frivolous lawsuits have put a stop to bystanders helping someone getting beaten or helping someone hurt, people walk by someone bleeding in the street for fear of our lawsuit happy society

It was definitely a hate crime, the question is does it meet the legal requirements for hate crime laws to apply. In the rural parts of GA there are a lot of people stuck in the past, I'm actually kinda surprised people were even willing to sign witness statements, never would have happened twenty years ago I am ashamed to say. More and more people in the south are getting tired of racist red neck morons defining our culture. Some southerners are some of the most polite kind hearted people you will ever meet, but dopes like this clown and his 80's hair cut make us look like a bunch of inbred fools.

You know TMWA I thought that too originally, but I also though being rural GA and this being a possible "hate" crime there could be other motives not to be involved as well. I guess we'll just have to see how this plays out.

Look up the Kitty Genovese story. People have a history of not getting involved. My bet is the asnwer to people's questions will be that they thought someone else would get involved so they wouldn't have too.

I don't know how mad I can get at the witnesses without more information. The attack may have only gone on for a few seconds until people did intervene. There has to be a reason he was still there when police arrived and no where in any of the source articles does it clarify what stopped the attack, and in rural GA police response time isn't exactly swift (I live here, unfortunately). On top of that many people would be in shock for at least a few seconds for such appaling behavior.

Thats said, if people did just stand around and watch like it was a boxing match, then yeah, they're douche bags.
