The Devil Made Otty Sanchez Kill Her Baby

San Antonio, TX – Well folks, this is one of those stories that is going to make your stomach turn. Not much shocks me anymore, but every once in a while, a story will come along that makes me want to head straight for an underground bunker with some rations and wait out the apocalypse. Early Sunday morning, Otty Sanchez’s mother went to check on her daughter and new grandson and walked into something horrible. A scene that probably resembled something straight out of the goriest horror flick. She found Sanchez cradling the decapitated and badly mutilated body of 3 1/2 week old baby Scott Wesley Buchholtz-Sanchez. Pretty bad huh? Hold on, it gets much much worse.
After walking in on the grisly scene, Sanchez’s mother took the dead baby from Sanchez and dialed 911. When officers arrived, they found the body of the infant laying on the bed in a pool of blood. The child had not only been decapitated, he had been skinned and gutted. Oh, and body parts were missing. The body had to be removed in two bags.
Police found Sanchez sitting on the couch screaming “I killed my baby. I want to die.” She claims she was hearing voices and the devil made her do it. She used a kitchen knife and possibly a sword and machete to kill the baby. She then stabbed herself in the chest and abdomen. When asked about the missing body parts, Sanchez said she ate them. Ate. Them. Gimme a sec. I feel faint. Ugh.
Sanchez was detained and taken to the hospital. When she is released she will be charged with capital murder which means she will be facing the death penalty.
No word yet on whether this was a bad case of Postpartum Psychosis or if she was on some sort of really bad drug. There also is no mugshot to be found yet and I am dying to see what she looks like. Not sure if it will help much, but putting a face to the act may help me process it better. One thing I do know for sure, Sanchez’s mother will be needing some major therapy. This definitely qualifies as one of those things you can not unsee.

As I sit here holding my two week old this story has made my stomach turn in knots. WTF kind of stupid ass could do something so cruel? Mental illness or not I think they should put her in a room by herself with a rusty butterknife and encourage her to finish the job.

There is nothing more horrible, heartbreaking or evil… reading this makes me feel like there really IS NO limit to what a murderer will/can do.
This is the worst… is sounds so satanic. WTF? I don’t think I am even close to capable of accepting that this really happened to a little baby. I wish I could pretend it is one disgusting story, but it is reality.
Last night while I lay sleeping, while we all were dreaming… in our comfortable beds, with fluffy pillows and blankee’s, a little baby was brutally and savagely murdered. Why does this shit happen?
I feel so bad for the baby. I feel so bad for the grandma. But I am sorry, the mother gets no sympathy from me… nothing less than evil can explain this away.
If she was crying out, “I KILLED MY BABY” then I guess she knew she had done something wrong. What, was she only crazy for the few hours it took her to decapitate, mutilate, skin and eat part of her baby? Bullshit. If she is crazy… then why wasn’t she still crazy? Why was only baby harmed? Why didn’t she just fucking finish herself off and find herself some sympathy in hell?
I don’t buy the crazy bullshit. Crazy for a few hours? Maybe I don’t understand all of the ‘crazy’ labels out there.. but if people can be this crazy to do this and then claim a few hours later “I just killed my baby,” then how does that back up her being crazy?
Can post partum psychosis only last a few hours? If so, we are going to see more of this shit as mothers of unwanted children decide that they too are “crazy”.
I am curious to see how her “crazy” the devil made me do it, defense, plays out.

Correct me if i’m wrong, but wasn’t there a story within the last year about a guy who stomped the life out of his two-year old, on the side of the road, the police shot him, point blank, because he refused to stop stomping the dead child. He claimed the child was possessed.. they later ‘determined’ that he had a psychotic break… the difference between these two cases (aside from the crazy bitch eating her infant) is that the police arrived in time to catch the other crazy fucker in the act… the police didn’t arrive until after the fact, with the second case. Call me crazy, but i’d lay odds that they’d have shot her point blank as well. Either way, it is a very sad day, when a child’s life is snuffed out, by a parent, for no logical reason… (demon possession and devil voices made me do it, don’t count as logical)….

I know Im going to get a lot of crap for this comment, I see it coming already… But this is the kind of story that makes me think people should need a license to have children. We wouldn’t allow someone with a drug abuse problem to adopt a child, why should they be allowed to birth a child? As a former drug addict myself, I know that not all drug users are evil baby murderers, but in general with a lot of these cases it is discovered that there were signs ahead of time that this person should not be caring for a child. Even if you dont agree with my license idea (I know I know, how the hell would we implement it), I hope you at least agree with this statement: why is it always that we can never do anything until it’s too late, and the child is dead? I feel the same way about people on welfare, if you are getting welfare for the first child, you should NOT be allowed to have a second one until you can care for the first one. It’s ridiculous to me.

I actually agree with you to a certain degree regarding licensing. I don’t really see this as a good example of why though…I still believe that she probably suffered from postpartum psychosis and that her FUBAR decision to brutalize her child was truly guided by the voices of madness, rather than drug use.
And there’s no news report stating that, I am operating just on intuition and the facts as the media has reported them. However, if this horror WAS caused by mental illness/psychotic break no amount of licensing would have born that out. Postpartum depression and psychosis can strike anyone, anywhere. I’ve not seen any data that suggests a race/economic/etc. delineation. So I don’t think that pulling a big brother would have stopped this particular train wreck.
Anyways – just my 2 cents.

you are absolutely correct.. having had children myself, i can tell you, it is *no* easy task.
i suffered post-partum depression which was misdiagnosed as bi-polar disorder… on meds for several years before we realized i didn’t need them.. have been med-free for 5 yrs and while my daughter will sometimes annoy me to no end, i have never had any desire to harm her…

I heard about this on my local news early this morning as this happened an hour-half from where I live. I wept silently as my own children slept. I begged for this to be nightmare, that there surely could be no horror like this in our own cities and towns that are not war torn and broken. Apparently yes. And besides the reason why this person committed such a savage an evil act on her very child, because I realize this could be psychosis or drugs; it gives me no comfort. None.
After hearing this terrible news I’ve been in a haze and terribly sad…depressed even. Horror like this should never find a baby. Little one probably woke up crying to be fed and what he got was unimaginable horror. Sadistic, savage, raw horror. I really can’t think what to say as I feel nothing but utter sorrow for this sweet child. Baby Scott deserved to be loved. With my hand on my heart sweetest one, I pray you are now at peace living in heavens. No more anguish or suffering. Be comforted now little one…be comforted.

It is one of my osbservations that in tought economic times and given certain circumstances in some of these emanciated or abandoned women’s lifes, psychologically they cannot function rationally in an increasingly distant society that is growing constantly judgemental and cruel. If you read the blog on her myspace carefully instead of jumping to conclusions and calling it worthless and if indeed that is her blog (which no one knows for sure) it can be seen that she is internalizing and finding ways to hold conversations with herself and looking for a sounding board that never comes but from within herself. Not everyone is strong minded. Some of these women may hold gudges even against the men that got them pregnant and say perhaps left them behind. This is a very common reason for a lot of baby killings (resentment). It is not uncommon in nature for female mamals to kill their babies in tough survival situations. I have seen countless crimes against offspring in recent times, which shows a tendency not only to end the life of the adult that brought them into this world, but also take their offspring with them. There has been at least 3 storries this week in the paper of mothers murdering their children and taking themselves out or attempting to do so. Rational says it’s a law of nature…It’s a rebound of natural selection and the “Fitness of the Strong”…Darwinian evolution principles may need to be looked at more carefully to understand what we are facing in the days to come in our increasingly dyssfunctional society! Just a thought…

She was capable up until that last moment to ask for assistance. She was capable up until that moment to find better and safer living conditions.
Now she’s culpable.
I have absolutely no sympathy for professional victims. If she could work her way around the internet in order to blog her ‘feelings’ and shit, she could have googled ’safe shelter for my child’.
It’s as simple as that.
As a society we need to hold people accountable for their actions.
Hers directly cost a human their life.

Well said. This is the kind of person who has no hope to live a normal life, we need to lock her up and throw away the key, or kill her. Im sorry to sound so cold, but what our alternatives? Put her in a mental hospital, where she will someday be free and get pregnant yet again? To kill another innocent child, yet again? These are the kind of people who cannot be cured
I hope we do find out more of what caused this particular incident. I dont know what is scarier to me, finding out that this is drug related, or finding out that she had post partum depression.

My judgment weighs heavily on what they determine caused this episode. If it was drug-induced (i.e. PCP), I have no sympathy. If it is deemed drug-induced psychosis, I have limited sympathy. If it was a sever case of postpartum psychosis, I must say, I’d feel pretty bad for her. These women don’t choose to suffer from that.

I think we should ask this woman if she would like to sleep forever, and we should put her to sleep with compassion. Sometimes there isn’t someone to “blame” in the traditional sense. Yes, she did it, but I don’t think in a sane state of mind she would have. Sometimes, crazy just happens.
As Athena said, if she was on PCP or something similar when this happened, then she gets no sympathy. But I somehow doubt that was the case. And plenty of people party and use recreational drugs in their youth and go on to be good, stable parents later in life.

Rotten Apple, I was just coming over to post that same story. Ohmygodohmygodohmygod. I don’t think I’ve ever read anything more horrifying.
Part of me is inclined to think that this HAD to be some kind of psychotic break, because…the details…who does that? Seriously, how could anyone with even one finger’s tenuous hold on reality do some of the things that are described as happening to that poor child? This just goes so much beyond anything that I could imagine. I don’t remember–did a previous article say what drugs she had been arrested for before? Was it something that would cause a break like this? (I am woefully ill-informed about what drugs do what.)
But then part of me notes, as Rotten Apple did above, that her romantic partner moved out of the house just a week ago, and the timing just makes me suspicious that this was some kind of revenge thing. Except it goes so much even beyond “getting back at the dad.” Maybe once he wasn’t around to keep an eye on her drug use, she spiraled out of control? (But if you had to keep an eye on your partner’s drug use, why would you leave your child with her?)
And speaking of which, the article says that “The child’s aunt and two cousins, ages 5 and 7, were in the house, but none were harmed.” Ummm…the child’s aunt was there? Who is presumably an adult? And she didn’t hear anything? I can’t imagine you could do that kind of damage quietly. *gulp* (That last sentence sounds horrible, but I don’t know how else to phrase it.) But then I guess the aunt would need to get the other children out of the house first, and maybe that’s when she called police? (If she did–I don’t remember seeing anything about who called the police, just that they arrived to find the woman screaming on the couch.)

When I first read this, I had hoped that she decapitated him first and foremost so that he couldhave jsut been dead before she did allthis other fucked up shit. Now I am forced to think to myself-that this baby suffered every single second of excrutiating pain by being gutted, skinned, having his face torn off, toes bitten off- every single second of that pain…
If I were one of the cops watching this bitch in the cell-I would accidentally slip with my gun in my hand and she would be displaying one right between the eyes. Fuck it-I would just do it without an accident-no matter what I lose for it.

i am very curious to hear what prompted this nightmare. i had postpartum ocd and depression after my kids were born, and even though it was hellish, i (thank god in heaven) never ever EVER thought about hurting them. if this was some kind of postpartum psychotic break, then i feel nothing but sympathy for the mother. if she got high and did this, i hope she fucking rots.

While I find this story as horrifying as others do, in the back of my brain, a question is there nagging at me: Could it be something MORE than some sort of psychosis that caused this? I mean, we see weird and disturbing things all the time, but this is one of the weirdest I have come across in a long time. Could the “Devil” really have had something to do with it?

There isn’t any part of this story that isn’t horribly tragic. What a horrible end for that baby. What a horrible thing for his grandmother to witness. What a horrible scene for the police to have to work. I imagine those boys in blue will need some serious therapy for a long time to come.
I don’t know what was wrong with that child’s mother, but it goes beyond the “usual” negligence and abuse we usually see on this site into something far, far darker. Nobody, NOBODY, who would do this to a child could be in ANY way anything remotely resembling sane. I don’t know if it was drugs, postpartum depression, a pre-existing mental condition, or some combination thereof, but whatever flavor of crazy she is, she’s not coming back after this. Having to live with the knowledge that you did THIS to your BABY would be enough to trigger a psychotic break – though I think she’s likely already had one.
I don’t see any point in killing her, honestly. I’m pretty sure she’s already dead inside anyway. But whether prison or a padded room, she should be kept behind a locked steel door for whatever life she has left.
