Tampa Bay, Florida When ever an educational story crosses the wire, my interest is automatically piqued, especially when the topic turns into pro-active measures to increase curricular accountability. All levels of education are extremely important – from elementary school all the way through high school (and college). And although most elementary and Jr. High students don’t really mind having to attend school to study and learn, a contingent of high school students only show up because they have to or they simply enjoy the “social” aspects of being around their peers. So the battle ensues: How do you make a high school student accountable for their failing grades? Well, some parents are raising their eyebrows at the method of punishment Asst. Principal for Curriculum Olayinka Alege has chosen.
Yinka, as he’s listed on the school’s website, has been reported to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department for a form of punishment that has caused a bit of confusion and a whole lot of WTF? His case was reviewed by an assistant state’s attorney and the deputies and they concluded the punishment didn’t amount to battery but a child protective services investigator with the Sheriff’s Office did say he saw some “abuse” indicators. Me? I see a whole lot of strangeness and a huge fetish.
Hinka Alege likes high school guys toes. He likes to squeeze them. He likes to pop them. As a matter of fact, one male student stated it was such a common occurrence (getting in trouble for grades and Alege’s “punishment”) he knew to enter the Assistant Principal’s office, shut the door, strip off his shoes and socks and offer up his foot for a little toe action. I shit you not. And not just this one kid, but 4 others as well. (He must have his favorites)
What’s the general reaction of the students, you ask? Well one student called it weird, one found it funny, one said it never hurt the three times it happened to him (but he asked Alege to stop), and another said it made him feel uncomfortable. And according to school records, only one out of the five sets of parents wanted to pursue criminal charges.
Since Alege’s arrival to C. Leon King High School in 2007, he’s admitted to an occasional “toe-pulling” but denies it was some form of punishment. Well pray-tell…why the hell did you do it? According to Alege, it was all in good fun. “I think the gist of it was me and the kids I was mentoring were just playing around. It was one of those playful things, just playing around with the kids so they felt more comfortable.” I want to know where this guy received his education! Even better, what his psyche professor would say about calling boys into the Principal’s office, close the door, take off their shoes and socks and let some sicko perv wanna be fondle their toes. Ewww. Could have been worse, I suppose. He could have been a toe sucker.
Even though the school has not chosen to discipline Assistant Principal for Curriculum Alege and claims the case is closed, the head honcho, Principal Carla Bruning said she told Alege to stop. And he will!!
