Mohammad Kattan Has Perverted Urges
July 9, 2009 by Jaded
Vacaville, CA – He watched her from the shadow of an alley – entranced by her swinging hair. The fact that she was playing with another child didn’t bother him in the least. He saw something he wanted and he was determined to get it. He approached the little girl and said, “I’ve got a surprise for you. Close your eyes.” He then grabbed the 6-year-old girl and pulled her behind a dumpster in the alley, just feet away from her own home. He held on to her and began to masturbate. The child cried out to her friend, Caitlin. Her friend, perhaps sensing something was wrong, made up a little story. She told her friend that she would be right over, just as soon as she picked up their jump ropes. Instead, she ran for help. Meanwhile, Kattan continued to molest the little girl.

Mohammad Musallam Kattan
He told the little girl “this is what Hannah MontanaHannah Montana: The Movie reviews
does, it’s ok for you to touch me.” Kattan made the little girl touch his genitals. He tried forcing the girl to orally copulate him. He yanked down her swimsuit bottom with the intent to abuse her further. Perhaps fearing the child’s friend had gone to seek help, Kattan released the child and fled. At about that time, the victim’s mother was approaching the alley. “I could hear my daughter screaming in the alley going, no no no,” described the distraught mother. The girl’s father had been on the phone with 911 since Caitlin alerted the pair. Vacaville police investigators responded to the area, and minutes later located Kattan about a block away from the alley. Both Caitlin and the victim identified him as being the abuser.
After a lengthy interview, Kattan fessed up to molesting the little girl. He told investigators that he has had urges to “do something to little girls” for the past year and a half. Mohammad Musallam Kattan, 20, was taken into custody on suspicion of two counts of lewd acts with a child and a count each of kidnapping, false imprisonment and annoying or molesting a child. Bail was set at $1 million. Police say Kattan had faced similar charges in Sacramento, but was never prosecuted.

Damn he’s nasty! Those girls were so brave! Hope they recover, especially the 6 year old.

Wasn’t prosecuted, huh? Nice. Well, let’s hope he gets prosecuted this time, and prosecuted good. And that he leaves jail with an asshole that he has to cork up for the rest of his life.

This bastard used HANNAH MONTANA to try to get this girl to cooperate? Anyone that knows me personally knows how close to home that hits. How these parents keep from hunting these fuckers down and beating them to death is beyond me.

I have to admit, I have watched Hannah Montana a couple times before. However, I don’t recall ever seeing some creepy white guy with the name of a 9/11 terrorist grabbing Miley and dragging her over to a dumpster to masturbate on her. But maybe I missed that episode.
9:55 am on July 9th, 2009
No wonder Miley Cyrus causes such outrage if that’s what she does in her show.
Seriously, can we just get to the part where we rid the human race of these scum bags?
10:07 am on July 9th, 2009
Annoying?
Actually “molesting” isn’t the right word either… it means:
“To pester or harass (someone), typically in an aggressive or persistent manner” so I guess “annoying” is equally not the word to use.
Law enforcement people are not very literate.
Glad they caught the guy anyway. Too bad he didn’t seek help when the urges started.

Well that’s like pissing on someone’s religion, isn’t it?
If he was hispanic, and his name was Jesus, would that have been better?
A lot of bigots here pretending to be good people.

Legal definition of molestation: the crime of sexual acts with children up to the age of 18, including touching of private parts, exposure of genitalia, taking of pornographic pictures, rape, inducement of sexual acts with the molester or with other children, and variations of these acts by pedophiles. Molestation also applies to incest by a relative with a minor family member, and any unwanted sexual acts with adults short of rape.

Yes, that would be the right word.

No worries Jaded, most people here understand that a legal definition of a word can differ from Webster’s. Moonlight is just on a roll this morning.

@Moonlight
Thank you! I knew as soon as I saw the title there would be a comment like that somewhere.
I got halfway through this article before I said, “wait, Vacaville?!?” Vacaville is the town next to mine- I lived there for six years. This guy is currently in the county jail, four blocks from my house. I walked past it last night on my way to get frozen yogurt.
Vacaville is a very preppy, pretentious town, even though it has no real right to be. The shmucks there are always ragging on my town for it’s crime rate- at least people here only get shot! (Never thought I’d type those words…)

So, now my co-worker is talking about how this happened right across the street from her house. And then she mentions “I never let [my eight year old daughter] play outside- Never!”
I hate to start this conversation up again, but seriously, how do you balance keeping your kids safe with letting them develop independence and have some fun? This happened in a town that is considered to be quite safe, by local standards. And while I think my co-worker isn’t doing her daughter any favors by keeping her locked up, this incident does kind of justify it (certainly it does in her mind).
Athena, help me out here. When I have kids, how am I supposed to keep them safe and let them grow up?

Educate them.
While these little girls WERE very brave and rather bright, they clearly had not been taught or tested for the proper response to a situation like this, which is, quite simply, fight like your life depends on it.
Sure, it is certainly a parent’s right to keep their child supervised at ALL TIMES. They’re “safe”. They’re alive… but can you really call that living? I don’t know about y’all, but some of my best childhood memories are drawn from moments when I was free – bike riding with a tribe of friends, wind blowing through our hair, not a parent in sight.
On top of that, there is a scientific justification for unsupervised play. It is only under these circumstances that children can build their executive functions, self-control and judgment, to the fullest extent. These are things that will assist your child with maintaining their own safety for the rest of their lives… and we all know we have to let go of them eventually.
Lastly, while none of us cherish the thought of our children getting attacked, their is some benefit that comes with that risk. No amount of compliments and self esteem-boosting structured activities can fundamentally reinforce a child’s confidence like overcoming adversity. Again I will reference the 7 year old boy who saved his female companion from being attacked by a pitbull by putting the dog in a rear naked choke (*Note: a rear naked choke is a commonly utilized Brazilian Jiu-jitsu move). Yes, this child was in a dangerous situation. But, by overcoming the situation through judgment and skill and saving a friend in the process, his self-worth was immediately proven. It was no longer nice but unsubstantiated words coming from mom and dad – it was undeniable fact. In other words – this child was actually better off having been faced with adversity and beating it than if he had never had to deal with it to begin with. I know the same can be said for my little sister and her friend, Sierra, who escaped, unscathed, from a man much like Kattan when they were 8 years old. They fought like hell, they got away, and they were able to experience a pride like no other.
Children are absolutely marvelous creatures. You’ve got children around the world who are working full-time jobs, serving in armies, running the family farm or looking after half a dozen siblings. Now, I’m not condoning any of that, but it is a testament to just how capable they are. I’m not suggesting any parent let their children run around entirely unadulterated; children still need structure and discipline. But they need to taste freedom. They need to know that their parents trust them. It will inspire them to be trustworthy. I mean, seriously – how many of us have bought the, “It’s not that I don’t trust you… I just don’t trust them” line from our significant others? Well, that’s exactly what you’re telling your children when you disallow unsupervised play and, I hate to break it to you, but they’re not buying it either.
With great risk comes great reward. By educating your child, you can effectively lessen the risk while still reaping all the reward it offers.

I would just like to Athena’s post. Education is key, absolutely. Children must be taught ’stranger danger’, buddy system, hold on to your bike, scream, kick, fight, etc.. But in addition, it is recommended that parents role play and have the children actually DO the actions of kick, scream, etc…
We learn by doing, so help them learn and teach them HOW it works. I can tell my daughter all day that if shes riding her bike and someone tries to take her, she should hold on to the bike and scream, but what if she has no faith that it will work? Show them how. Teach them to scream as loud as possible by having them do it. Hopefully, having seen how the recommended reactions work they wont freeze up.

@ Athena: That’s a great analogy- “It’s not that I don’t trust you, I just don’t trust them!” “So, you don’t think I’m capable of defending myself against them?” “No, but, well, umm…” “Yeah, that’s what I thought.” I guess you’re right, we should have enough faith in our kids to let them take some risks…
Thank you for supplying my daily dose of rationality. For a second there I thought I would just wrap my kids in ace bandages and lock them in a closet until they were 18.
@ dreamstorm: That’s a great point, actually acting out the dangerous situations they might face should give them more confidence, and help them take the appropriate action if this ever happens to them.
I do wonder why this little girl didn’t scream. Also, why dad was on the phone to 911 while mom went out looking for the girl and her assailant. I’m not implying anything devious, just that it strikes me as very strange. If someone was attacking my husband’s daughter, I don’t think he would sit around on the phone, he would run out of the house (butt-nekkid if necessary) and handle the situation. One safe little girl, one disassembled pedophile, problem solved.

Welcome, Leila! I agree, and this reminds me of a South Park episode…Mr. Garrison tells Cartman that not all Arabs are terrorists, and Cartman’s response is, “Yes, but most of them are. And all it takes is most of them.” LOL!

When my daughter was about 4, my brother – the martial arts expert, and my husband had a “lesson” with her about “what to do if….” Later, when my brother was giving me the rundown (ie: showing off), he picked her up and asked her what she would do if someone grabbed her like that. She responded with a very loud “kick ‘em in the NUTS” and showed just how she would do it. My big brawny brother went down for the count. LOL. ahhhhh… memories…

How is that pissing on someone’s religion? 9-11 was commited by mostly Saudi-Arabic Muslims, not Catholic nuns, Hare-Krishnas, or Buddist monks. Keep being over sensitive and burying your head in the sand in the name of political correctness. Oops! I suppose you will take that sand reference as another jab at arabs or Muslims, huh? BTW, I don’t remember the original poster even mentioning the Muslim/Islam religion. YOU made the Muhhamed/religion connection, so who is the bigot now?
8:16 pm on July 10th, 2009
Sir Geoff,
Anyone who would invoke the 9/11 terrorists based only on an individual’s Arab name is bigoted. Anyone who thinks that one’s anger by this invocation means one is ‘overly sensitive’ is bigoted.
I’m sorry, but as an Arab-American I’ve been called a rag head, an Aye-rab, a sand nigger, and I’ve been accused of being related to or supporting terrorists because I have an Arab name. I was once even called a ‘camel’s whore’ by a particularly imaginative gentleman in high school. Fortunately this has died down some in the past couple of years, but I can tell you that it is not overly-sensitive to be hurt by comparisons to terrorists, based solely on a name! Of course, you don’t understand this because it’s never happened to you. And you won’t ever understand it because you’ll continue to keep YOUR head buried in the sand (ha. ha. ha.). But by all means, this is a free country, and you have every right to continue to be willfully and blatantly ignorant.

snn09: Is it legal to carry mace, there in California? If so, have mom or dad purchase you a clip with mace, carry it with you always! If not, mace, get a trial size can of hairspray and carry that, go for the eyes if he gets out and comes near you!! Practice screaming and knees to the groin, too!
Stay safe!! (note: if your Mom hasn’t reported what you posted, ask her to, you never know, it may be helpful)
