Myrtle Beach, SC - On July 1st, police were flagged down by some beach goers who alerted them to a female giving a man a blowjob under a pier. On top of that, a film crew was recording the entire event. As police observed, they witnessed a Joseph Mark Flanders, 21, standing in front of Taylor McKenzie Hancock (snicker), 21, with his shorts down -but boxers on – while HancockHancock reviewsHancock reviews (snicker) simulated sucking his dick. When they approached the group, it turns out that they are just students filming a movie that contained this scene. Police told them they cannot do that and they need to leave. Oh, wait. This is Myrtle Beach. They arrested the two actors, producer, director of photography, camera man, sound technician, gaffer, and a key grip.

Taylor McKenzie Hancock (snicker), 21; Joseph Mark Flanders, 21; John Chamberlain Maynard, 22; Samuel Merritt Brown, 21;  Dylan Curtis Conrad, 21; William Andrew Gorrell, 27; Andrew Thomas Valenti, 20, and Keenan John Jackson (not pictured), 21, were charged with participation in preparation of obscene material with bail set at $10,000 each.

The incident report can be viewed here. It contains all the information on the accused and the “victims” who witnessed the event, plus the police report. One of the funnier portions of the eyewitness accounts comes from a couple who were on the beach with their grandson who is 12. They asked him what was happening, in reference to the film crew, and his reply to them was “you don’t wanna know“. Bwuahahahaha!

But what in the hell were you guys thinking? Its Myrtle Beach for God’s sake. Everyone knows you can’t do shit there any more. Myrtle Beach sure plays up that family angle now. Back when we went down there you could see the real act happening on balconies lining the Grand Stand. Drunken-ass, debauchery all night long. I still remember projectile vomiting while crossing the street to the Magic Attic and no one blinked an eye. But that was a long time ago, and things have changed a bit. And for the rest of you guys who got arrested.

Especially if you can get your ass thrown in jail for pretending to perform a sex act. One of these guys is local to me, so I may just try to call him up and get his side. My biggest question comes from the police report itself. While none of the witnesses ever reported seeing any nudity, the reports make mention of the police viewing the video and states, “The scene, under the pier, was reviewed and revealed Flanders and Hancock (snicker) engaged in what appeared to be a sex act of fellatio

So what is it? Were they actually doing the deed? Because honestly, I am no prude, but I can fully understand why local police of a family resort would get a little testy about kids building sandcastles while watching Hancock (snicker) slobbing on Flander’s cock. But if this was just a scene, with no nudity, why all this? And it’s not like this was some impromptu thing done by a group of drunks with a camera. The report states they were all sober and the equipment they confiscated included a story board, script, spotlight, and a friggin’ light meter. Yeah, yeah I know…even amateur porn can have those things. But am I wrong in thinking they are being a bit harsh on these kids? This is a charge that would really suck to have on your record, especially when all you were doing was filming a scene for a crappy movie.

Sorry for the juvenile snicker remarks beside Hancock’s name. It’s just like…what are the odds? A chick being born with the last name Hancock, getting arrested for performing (simulated) fellatio under a Myrtle Beach pier. Her parents should be lucky her last name wasn’t something like Gangbang or Bukkake.

    cops in this remind me of an old show where the guy says
    “I could of been a doctor, but there are a lot of smart doctors so I never could’ve been the best”
    “I could of been a lawyer, but there are a lot of smart lawyers so I never could’ve been the best”
    So I became a cop

    Good story, snickers and all. Hopefully a competent attorney will step up and get the charges dropped for these poor aspiring artists.

    I don’t see these charges getting dropped any time soon, competent defense or not. Obscenity legislation is notoriously obscure, making it difficult to defend against.

    A little. Bottom left looks like Keanu, the one beside him looks like Steve-Oh from Jackass. The far right guy looks like director, James Gunn

    The PoPo in this case were prolly just upset, that they weren’t asked to “star” in the film….
    Thanks Morbid! I had to google bukake, I have been enlightened! I just love the “urban” education I get from reading here… ;)

    The charges are a bit much. If it definitely was just acting, I can see why they need to get kicked off and get a stern warning, but otherwise the charges should be dropped…

    I see it the other way around. It would seem ridiculously impossible to prosecute.
    The law still does have to provide proof a crime was committed.

    These kids were making a movie like “Porkies” or “Animal House.” That’s it. I should know. The DP is my son.

    When the law is vague and arbitrary, Malq, proving a crime was committed is easy to do. Just ask Karen Fletcher, who was forced to plead guilty to obscenity charges as the result of her fictional writing.

    The Supreme Court’s decision found obscenity to be material that “if, taken as a whole, it lacks artistic, literary or scientific merit, depicts certain conduct in a patently offensive manner, and violates contemporary community standards.” (Wiki’s paraphrasing.)

    Obscenity legislation is some of the most dangerous legislation on the books. We tolerate it because it focuses on “offensive” material… but who gets to determine what’s offensive? “Contemporary community standards,” and, as Morbid said… this is Myrtle Beach.

    Nothing vague about it. SC law specifically states that this was a law that was broken. May sound silly, but it is their law.

    http://www.scstatehouse.gov/CODE/t16c015.htm

    SECTION 16-15-325. Participation in preparation of obscene material prohibited; penalties.

    Any individual who knowingly:

    (a) photographs himself or any other individual or animal for purposes of preparing an obscene film, photograph, negative, slide, videotapes, motion picture, or digital electronic files for the purpose of dissemination; or

    (b) models, poses, acts, or otherwise assists in the preparation of any obscene film, photograph, negative, slide, videotapes, motion picture, or digital electronic files for the purpose of dissemination is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, must be imprisoned for not more than one year and fined not more than one thousand dollars.

    B) For purposes of this article any material is obscene if:

    (1) to the average person applying contemporary community standards, the material depicts or describes in a patently offensive way sexual conduct specifically defined by subsection (C) of this section;

    (C) As used in this article:

    (1) “sexual conduct” means:

    (a) vaginal, anal, or oral intercourse, whether actual or simulated, normal or perverted, whether between human beings, animals, or a combination thereof;

    if anything, the lesson here is to check the laws before you start filming certain scenes, right? It took me 5 minutes. I just hope these kids wont have to register as sex offenders over this crap.

    I see. Yeah, apparently, SC law is much more specific. Retarded, but specific nonetheless. Then again, according to that link, we’re talking about a state with adultery and fornication still on the books.

    When are we going to get over the sex thing? Meanwhile, had these kids been filming a similated murder, they’d likely have been just fine.

    Every once in a while, the hyper-puritanical nature of American society makes me want puke.

    I know sooo many people in SC that I am gonna blackmail with this law. I’m gonna be RICH bitches!!! Cell phone cameras FTL!

    Oh wait, for dissemination? Drats! Foiled again.
