Garner, NC–There was a time in my life when I wanted to pursue a career in law enforcement…not because I wanted to be a hero, mind you, but for purely selfish reasons. (Mainly because I wanted to carry a gun and a nightstick and play with the lights and sirens. Plus, I would look totally hot in uniform). After some deep and thoughtful consideration, I realized that I would never, ever feel comfortable eating in a fast food joint while in uniform, and, I would totally dish out some police brutality on people like Jonathan Sullivan.

Last Monday, Sullivan, 41, aroused the suspicion of an off-duty Wake County sheriff’s deputy when the officer spotted his SUV parked in the cul-de-sac of a subdivision under construction. Since the area was known to be a hotbed of criminal activity, the officer decided to investigate.

When he approached the SUV, he found Sullivan sitting in the back seat of the vehicle with a 2-year-old child. After questioning Sullivan and noticing inconsistencies with his answers as to why he was parked in the area, the deputy then asked Garner police to assist in the investigation. When the officers arrived at the scene and questioned Sullivan, he responded that he had just dropped his daughter off at Eagle Ridge Golf Club. The officers took note of a set of binoculars, a camera, and a computer on the front seat of the SUV. One officer asked permission to check out the camera and Sullivan consented. According to a court affidavit, the first picture on the camera was sexually explicit in nature and appeared to be the genitalia of a female child or young adolescent. But wait! There’s more!

One of the officers noticed a “large mass” under a tarp in the rear of the SUV. When the tarp was lifted, lo and behold, there was a naked 12-year-old girl under there. When asked if that was his daughter, Sullivan replied, “I don’t know. I dropped her off at the club house.” (And that would have been about the time I bashed the motherfucker in the head with my shiny nightstick). Yet another officer arrived at the scene to question the child. The girl told the officer that she didn’t want Sullivan to get arrested. She also asked that her mother not be told of the incident….you see, her and Sullivan parked in that location quite often. It was their ‘quiet place.’ Questioned further, Sullivan admitted to taking sexually explicit pictures of the adolescent and further admitted to having pornographic images on his computer at home.

Jonathan Sullivan is the live-in-boyfriend of the children’s grandmother, who has custody of the kiddos. I know, you’re just shocked as hell, aren’t you? Initially charged with taking indecent liberties with a child, after the photos on his camera and computer were viewed, his bond was upped from $20,000 to $225,000 and a couple extra charges of sexual exploitation of a minor were thrown on. Sullivan’s camera also containted nude pictures of a second female of unknown age.
