Chris Chambers Scared His Girlfriend To Death

Lakeland, Florida–They say never point a weapon at someone unless you intend to shoot. They also say you should always assume that a gun is loaded even if you think it’s not. They are wise. Chris Chambers, 23, isn’t. He thought it would be fun to scare the shit out of his girlfriend while she was showering. He grabbed his Glock 19, snuck into the bathroom, aimed, and fired. Now, his girlfriend, 19-year-old Stephanie “Dapheney” Joseph, is dead from a gunshot wound to the face. Oh yeah…he scared her real good. They also say there are two sides to every story. Personally, I think there are three–his, hers, and the truth.

Chambers and Joseph had been dating for over a year and have been living together for just one month. Chambers’ family says they had never seen him so serious about a girl. “He love that girl so much,” his uncle, Warren Wilson, said. “She’d jump to his attention. I never seen any arguments or disagreements or anything.” According to family members, Chambers is ‘even-tempered’ and ‘non-violent.’ Chambers told police it was an accident…that he didn’t know the gun was loaded when he pointed it at his girlfriend’s head. The police have a different tale to tell.
Investigators say that Chambers thought his girl had been unfaithful, and about two weeks ago, he bought his very first gun. Investigators believe that Chambers confronted Joseph about her supposed infidelity and shot her in the face. Initially charged with second-degree murder with a firearm, the charge has been upgraded to first-degree murder. According to the arrest affidavit, Chambers “made several spontaneous statements about shooting the decedent and also gave a taped statement admitting to shooting the decedent in the face.”

Yeah, I don’t buy that he was trying to scare her… in the shower, no less. Sounds more to me like someone attempting to avoid a mess. I also find it hard to believe that someone who only bought their first gun a couple weeks ago would already be so comfortable or reckless with it as to “play around” with it. This wasn’t a little kid, this was a 23 year old male.
He probably DID love her… a little too much.

Bingo! His uncle’s assertion that he was “never this serious” about a girl is a red flag considering the outcome…seems he took their relationship REALLY seriously. For some people, being serious about a girl translates to viewing her as a piece of property. Asshole.

After finding out that a girl he was completely in love with might be cheating on him, he was just fooling around and chose to “scare” her with a gun while she was in the shower. That is simply absurd.
I’m more likely to believe that this kid was completely awash in testosterone stupidity when it happened. He didn’t just want to scare her, he needed her to feel his rage and hurt or perhaps to verify whether the tale of her cheating being true or not. A gun in the face is not a joke to any sane person. He didn’t seek to scare. He sought to terrorize and control.
If she did cheat on him, perhaps she confirmed it?

What could have been his purpose for bringing a gun to the shower while his girlfriend was in it, in your opinion? I am having a hard time accepting that anyone who purchased a gun for protection because of some bad things happening in the streets of his town would feel the need to do that. In fact, I cannot think of any reason that does not involve an intent to terrorise the poor young woman, – with or without intent to kill. Good guys don’t do that. (Oh, and I am pretty certain April can do better than Chris Chambers.)

When someone points a gun at another person, it is NEVER an accident when they kill them, intended or not. If you aim a gun at someone, no matter what the intention, you are endangering the life of the other person. PERIOD.
His race has nothing to do with this. He was an angry male out to terrify a female who was completely vulnerable. Whatever his intent, he needs to go to jail.
It’s hard to accept it when someone we care about does something horrible, but you will need to do that, FREECLC. He killed her. With a gun. He needs to pay.

Everyone knows that a glock has to be cocked before it can fire, right? You should never leave a gun cocked for a long period of time either. So he either cocked it right before he went into the shower to murder his girl, OR…he left it cocked the last time he “played” with it. But if you leave your gun cocked, then you absolutely should be checking it the next time you pick it up. It’s one of those deals where even if his intent was not to murder her in cold blood, his stupidity and complete recklessness was so egregious that a murder charge should still hold. It’s too bad he didn’t know how to use his “gat” because now he can’t be a gangsta’ rappa’.

Stupid bastard probably seen too many “gangsta flicks” and action pictures where everyone slides one in the chamber. Probably thought that was what you needed to do when having a gun. What these idiots do not realize is that cocks the gun for you and it stays that way till fired. Every firearm needs to be cocked before it’ll fire, Necro. The Glock is designed to remain cocked for years; in fact, the only way to decock a Glock is to pull the trigger. And the only way to cock it is to rack the slide.
Even better are Cooper’s Rules. The late Jeff Cooper, Lt Col, USMC (ret) taught four rules: that every gun is loaded, that one does not cover anything with the muzzle of a gun one does not intend to destroy, that one does not engage the trigger with the finger until the sights are on the target, and that one must be aware of one’s target and where the bullet will ultimately wind up.
