Houston, Texas–Have you seen this asshole? If so, the Houston police would like to talk to ya. Uriel Vargas Alvarado, 25, is wanted on charges of aggravated assault with serious bodily injury. He is suspected of intentionally dousing his girlfriend with gasoline and setting her on fire, causing fourth-degree burns to over 70 percent of her body. On Sunday evening, 33-year-old single mother of two, Patricia DeLeon Hernandez, heard a knock at her apartment door…

As soon as she answered the door, she was punched in the face and knocked to the ground. Uriel then poured gasoline on her, lit her up, and beat feet. Neighbors saw the burning woman running out of her apartment and, responding to her screams for help, rushed to put out the flames. WitnessesWitnesses reviews
said that most of her clothes had been burned completely off before they even reached her. The woman told a neighbor that Uriel was the one responsible for the attack. She remains in critical condition in the burnBurn Up reviews unit at Memorial Hermann Hospital. It is reported that, thankfully, her children were not in the home at the time of the attack. Fourth-degree burns are the worst burns possible, damaging muscle, nerve cells, ligaments, and tendons. Sometimes, bones are scorched.
Anyone with information on Alvarado’s whereabouts is asked to call the Houston Police Department Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

Fourth degree burns over 70% of her body? She really has no chance for survival. Right now the doctors are probably just trying to keep her as medicated as possible and waiting for the shock to kill her. At least with such severe burns the nerve damage is such that she (hopefully) doesn’t feel too much pain.
Poor woman, I hope they catch this fucker soon.

I’m surprised she lived long enough to get to the hospital; if the shock doesn’t kill her, dehydration and infection quickly will.
As a former FF/EMT, I’ve seen this degree of injury often, but most of the victims were beyond medical help (deceased), and those few that were alive usually died in route to the hospital.
I’d like to meet this guy in a dark ally, with a ball bat, a gallon of gas, and my trusty Zippo.

Absolutely horrendous injuries. I spent some time at the Chapel Hill burn unit when a relative of mine was spending a few months there. Very sobering experience that changed me for the better. To see 8-year-old kids playing with toy cars – minus ears and a nose. It has a was of sapping the “my life sux!” and the “woe is me” mentality right out of ya’. After a few days of listening to children get skin baths, it also helped solidify the fact that there is no God. And if there ever was, he is now an absentee father at best.
Oh Lord. Another rant is a comin’.
It is one of the big things that gets on my last nerve with religious folk. It happened today – or rather, this morning on the news. We had som hellacious storms blow through last night. Some counties got hit hard enough that inspectors are on there way to see if it had in fact been a tornado. Anyway, an older woman was on the screen describing the sounds of last night, and how fearful she was. She states that she prayed to God to deliver them safely from the storm and asked Him to please make sure no one got hurt. She ended the statement with a small pause and the three words “and he did” with a content smile on her face.
Now I am sure this woman, while ignorant in my eyes, is probably the nicest woman in NC. I have no info to make me think otherwise. But how could she possibly think that God himself was looking over her, to make sure herself, her Ford truck and her humble abode made it through the night – while somewhere in Chapel Hill, a little girl, whose mother had poured boiling water on, is having her skin peeled off while she screamed on the verge of passing out? Where was he then? Must be a bit of that Mysterious Ways bullshit.

The burn victim thing is on the verge of becoming a legitimate phobia of mine. The thought of fourth degree burns is overwhelming. The thought of spending time in a burn victim unit is overwhelming. The thought of surviving a burn injury after the hell on earth that is burn therapy only to be taken out by an infection ravaging your skin 6 months down the road is overwhelming.

I am not putting “religion” on you or trying to get you to see what I know, but, I have to say this, because God is Omnipotent and He loves us every one. He gave us free will, All the Good, Compassion and Caring (that Far far outweighs what we read here) that is going on here on earth, is because humans have listened to that Still Small Voice, that is the Holy Spirit guiding them! evil people do not listen to the Holy Spirit and turn on their fellow man! Look at it this way, We all grow up and leave our parents (well, most of us) at some point and become productive adults, because our Parents guided us through, taught us right from wrong and gave us the ability to deal with lifes responsibilities, hopefully happy and successful, so, every now and then we will call on our Parents for advice about something important to us, right? Most loving Parents will answer with Sound and True experienced thoughts, but, if we never ask them for it, should we expect them to just speak it? All you have to do is sincerely ask God for answers and then quietly LISTEN…. HE is there!!

I used to be pretty religious – but then I noticed how much bad shit happens to good people – and became Agnostic. I can’t totally deny there’s a “Higher Power” – I just can’t drink the Kool-Aid Christian’s are serving.
I too fear burning to death more than any other form of death (other than maybe a different kind of slow, painful torture) I always have feared burning. I can only imagine the horror that is this woman’s “life” right now. I’m not sure survival would be a good thing… except for her children. How freaking sad and pathetic that this king of the fucktards would not only do this to this woman – but also put those poor children through such pain, anguish and heartbreak! That alone warrants death. Even IF she survived, what could she possibly offer her children? With all the surgeries, hospitalizations, treatments, etc. she’ll have to endure – there will be no time for her to be there for them. Not to mention how physically impaired she’ll likely be – keeping her from enjoying activities with her kids.
He just needs to DIE! Painfully, slowly and publicly. Use him as an example to any other dickless bastard who might think this is a good idea.

I have to say when I read all of the comments on this particular heinous crime and then it turned into God bashing, I kept quiet. Thank you for your sincerity, kindness and your bravery. I don’t believe that you were pushing God on anyone. I don’t believe that you are that kind of person.
Whether or not you believe, I don’t think, gives any person on here more credence than the other. We come on this site to moan the atrocities of the world and maybe come away feeling a little better. It is a release.

Have you looked at the pic on the about page? I’m pretty sure it is against all I was taught growing up.
I have never had a Jew (and I was married to one) or a Muslim come up to me and hand me a religious pamphlet, pull my daughter aside in her kindergarten class to “witness” to her, or tell me that someone in my family was dying because they did not have enough faith. I have also never had a Jew, Muslim, Wiccan, Pagan, Hindu, or any one of any other faith tell me that the father of my child was not getting into heaven because Jesus was the way and the light and the only way into heaven.
Most of us atheists and agnostics started out Christian. Raised that way. Spoon fed it as a child. It was life experience that made us question and see what was really there. If anyone ever really prayed and got an answer from any god as to why things are the way they are, I wish they would share it with the rest of us.
Really, do what you want, worship how you see fit, but here, in the United States, it is the Christian majority that tries to push their belief system on the non Christian minority here. Just consider this getting a little taste of your own medicine.

Hey, you all are free to believe in what ever cartoon character you want. But this site was created by, and staffed with, mostly agnostics and atheists. So while I would never tell anyone here not to bring their religious views and silly dogma to light in the comment section of any of these articles, I am telling you that in doing so, you are opening yourself up to scrutiny and ridicule. But I would think that is exactly what you want and would expect. That’s your entire bag, right? Persecution?
But just as I get pissed every time someone wants to throw the “only God can judge” tripe around, I get just as pissed at the absolute ARROGANCE and POMPOUS SELFISHNESS demonstrated by Christians who feel that thy Lord God And Savior Himself answered YOUR prayers to get rid of the goddamned corns on the bottom of your feet, while letting an infants asshole get split apart while being pogo’d on the dick of a deviant. It makes me pretty angry. Not only at the fact some Christians think that their lives are obviously more worthy than another, but at the breeding of apathy created every time someone utters “well they are in a better place” or “God will punish him”.
Because I hate to tell you, the last thing that 2-month old with the split ass saw was the face of a man ejaculating. They went nowhere. They are not skitting around the clouds with a harp. They. Are. Dead. And there will be no hell for the man who did it. The only punishment he will receive are from those of us who have to continue to live with him.
Trust me, I understand WHY you all believe what you do. It is safe. It is comforting. It makes life a lot less scary to think we are being watched over and that when you die and cease to exist, you really didn’t do either. You just entered a new stage of being where you will live for ETERNITY at the feet of your Maker. Hey, sounds cool, I guess. But I am here to tell you that you are old news practicing an art that has been done since men first came out of the trees.
Here…let me show you a couple other things people believed in and worshiped…long before you, and long before Jesus Christ ever built a table.
Sure, it is all kinda funny now, but just like you and YOUR God, it is understandable why some people need this kind of stuff. And hey, if it helps you through the day, and helps you live like a better human being, then I am all for it. But don’t think you can come in here and spout off your religious views without getting called to task for them. Your views are no more off limits than anyone elses, and you may find this hard to fathom – but for some of us, your comments are just as offensive to us as our views are to you.

What really bothers me here, and in various threads lately, is, quite sadly, the lack of harmony between regulars who all frequent this site because a common bond supposedly unites them all together. And no matter how eloquently and intelligently things are worded, I still get the feeling that I’m watching kids fighting during recess.
I get that we’re all entitled to our opinions, and I also get that when dealing with such raw and emotional issues, it is hard to not let our passions get the best of us. But come on, people! We’re supposed to be picking apart (and voicing our disgust of) the perpetrators of these awful crimes and the idiotic people who come on here and attempt to defend them. NOT EACH OTHER!!

I am christian. I believe in God. I pray for the victims as I read through the articles. I believe we have free will and there are people that use their free will to be dickheads. I also believe each to their own. The agnostics and atheists on this site have stated their points and they make sense to me. That does not mean I agree with them, just makes me think. I too love this site and check it several times a day. When I come across a post or opinion that I don’t agree with, so what? The fact they there are so many different beliefs and opinions, spoken from some very intelligent people is one of the things that attracted me to this site. I know that there are people that think I’m an idiot for my beliefs, that’s ok, that makes us human and again is just humans excercising their free will. Hope this doesn’t make me sound like a jack ass

Something that always gets me, is when agnostics or atheists curse, they (most of the time) use God or Jesus Christs name to do it, why not use buddha, zeus, thor, shiva or mithras?
Morbid; I didn’t think that I was “spouting” off my “religion” I was sincerely concerned (still am) for the health of your soul, merely trying to convey my hope for all mankind and that is to know the peace and joy that I do, because my God/Jesus/HolySpirit is still in control, whether we/you want to acknowledge Him or not! Knowing Him and His love for me (and you) has definitely made me a caring, compassionate and giving human and when I pray, I pray sincerely and honestly to Him! I do not feel self-righteous because I know Him and His promises, I feel grateful, that is it! I would love nothing more than for everyone to feel the way that I do, but I do not and would not push it on others, you and I have the same free will, it is all a choice!
I realize that God loves us all the same and I am not any more special than the next! Only God knows why some lives are spared and others are not, it is not for me to know, but I do Trust Him! And because, I trust Him, I must acknowledge Him and His Omnipotence, for myself and publicly!
My desire is simply to bring in some Light and shine it in the darkness, to encourage the discouraged! I will not be ashamed for that…..

Not at all. Like we have stated before, the mix of different beliefs is what makes this site, and the comments, interesting.
All are welcome – I don’t care if you worship a petrified turd left behind by a pterodactyl. I just want to remind people that your religious beliefs are not what may become an issue, just you inclusion of its associated dogma. If you feel the need to start quoting stuff (whether that be from the Bible, the Koran, your neighbor’s dog, the instructions your tree gave you last night as you sat naked in front of it, etc) grow some real thick skin and be prepared to get some (positive\negative) feedback.

Meet one of the agnostics who tries not to curse at all. And when she does, she is much more likely to let slip something describing a bodily function. I try to be respectful of everyone I come into contact with and I would find it most agreeable if other people extended the same curtesy to me. I know it is much to ask in some cases…….

I am a believer, I no longer call myself a Christian because I feel organized religion does nothing but spew hate and bigotry. I respect everyone’s right to believe as they will. While each of us may or may not believe or feel as the other, as long as we are tolerant and respectful (rainbow-dipped almost made me spit drink out my nose) there is not need for drama. We can all discuss our thoughts and enjoy some great dialogue.
