Is Tyler Weinman The Serial Cat Killer?

Palmetto Bay, FloridaIn the past month, residents in the Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay neighborhoods have reported finding the bodies of more than two dozen mutilated cats on their front lawns. Some were skinned, some were gutted, some had their little kitty skulls bashed in. At least one cat was found, mutilated and ‘posed’, in it’s owner’s yard on Mother’s Day. A warning went out to residents to keep their cats indoors…animal advocacy groups and worried neighbors put together a $10,000 reward. Residents in both neighborhoods can now breathe a sigh of relief…an arrest has been made.

Tyler Weinman

Tyler Weinman

The smug-lookin’ little shit you see in the photo to the right is 18-year-old Tyler Weinman. Based upon tips coming in from the community, authorities had placed Tyler under surveillance about two weeks ago, and during that time, several more cats met their gruesome fate. Details on the evidence against Tyler are a bit sketchy because the arrest warrant and affidavit were ordered sealed. Tyler was arrested on SundaySunday reviewsSunday reviews and charged with 19 counts of animal cruelty, 19 counts of improperly disposing of an animal body and four counts of burglary. Each of Weinman’s 19 counts of animal cruelty carries a minimum mandatory fine of $5,000, six months in prison, and psychological counseling. Tyler Weinman is being held on $154,500 bond. Authorities don’t believe Tyler acted on his own, and more suspects might be forthcoming.

Tyler has a shit-load of defenders on his side…and I don’t doubt a few of them will grace us with their presence. Someone was kind enough to start a FacebookFacebookFacebook group titled ‘Justice for Tyler.’ The group creator proclaims that, In AmericaIn America reviewsIn America reviews everyone is innocent until proven guilty and that includes Tyler Weinman.” Speaking of Facebook, Tyler is a member of the Facebook group, ‘Catch the cat killer!’ Hehhh…

    Speaking of cats.

Last night as I was working on the site, in a fairly frustrated state, I heard the pleasant sound of my cat getting ready to puke something up. So I jumped up, knocking over my coffee on to my Xbox controller, just in time to see the cat puke something that looked like an aborted fetus on to my dining room table.

I wonder if I could get this kid to come stay with me for a day or two…

Yeah..lol…ours waits until AFTER we clean the carpets and starts with the puking! I just KNOW they plan it. But on to other news, if this smug bastard did do this, and I am betting they have good evidence he DID do it, he better PRAY he serves hard time, cause had him or any other bastards done this to MY babies….The Devil himself would weep at what I would do to to him. ANY defenders of this asshole wanna dance? Bring it ON. I don’t tolerate abusers and torturers, cowards who prey on those weaker than them!!

I hate to see any animal abused or tourtured. It takes a really sick mind to do these things and if this is the guilty party I hope he pays dearly.
NOW that said cats are a pain they sit around and watch you and
    wait…..to attack.
I am allergic to these evil little beasts and they LOVE ME.
Out of a house full of people…. why do these vile little creatures pin point the one with the itching and swollen eyes.
Cats in general seem to see humans as a challenge.

Hmmm, well he sure looks innocent enough. I bet people are going….ahhhh, well, lookie, he’s to normal looking, he couldn’t hurt a fly much less over a dozen cats!….no way! I’m betting there is some harsh evidence against him to have secured an arrest. I’d like to hear him speak on that.

I don’t own any animals right now,but I grew up with dozens, cats being one of my faves. Sick, twisted fuck to do such heinous things.

I would assume something terrible happened to this kid to have put him in a place where he either feels compelled to kill innocent animals or feels its ok. For that I’m sorry for him….however, he needs some serious and intense therapy and needs to pay the price for his actions.

Near as I can tell, if they get all the counts they have on him to stick, he is looking at a minimum of 19.5 years in jail to a max of 32.5 years plus a bunch of substantial fines.

I posted a map of the killings in the forms, if any one wants to look at it. His cat killing rampage started on the same street his mothers house is on and is where at least four of the killings occurred. I think the 4 burglary charges come from thoughs 4 dead kittys, found near his mothers home. The cats were caught, removed then retuned, brutally mutilated, a few days later.

According to one comment I read, this isn’t the first time Tyler has been arrested for killing animals.

Dr. Sara Pizano of Miami-Dade Animal Services told Local 10’s Julie Summers it was specifically the manner in which some cats were killed and the similarities between the cats targeted that led investigators to arrest Weinman.

    Map of the cat killings.

It’s kind of rare for someone to be arrested in a high-profile case like this with flimsy evidence. If he was being watched for a few weeks before he was busted, my guess is that there is some pretty compelling evidence. That said, until the evidence is known, I will withhold an opinion.

I am glad that he has been hit with serious charges and a possible long-ass time in jail, but here’s the thing – if he is is found guilty and was sentenced to 20 years, AND actually served them, he would be under 40 when he got out. Still young enough to ramp up to killing humans, and with (almost certainly) a huge amount of frustration and anger from years of confinement. It’s highly unlikely that he would get isolation, so he would be inmates “currency” for a long time to come.

Don’t get me wrong – I have no pity for him if he is a cat murderer – I am just scared as shit about what he would be capable of when he gets out. This is one of those cases that makes me wish for the old lifetime state mental institution confinements. He is obviously mentally ill, and nothing will fix it, but the goal should be to keep him out of society forever. Prison is going to make this guy a ticking time bomb.

When most people were out shopping for a gift, for there mother on Mothers day, Tyler was out collecting neiborhood cats. The first 2 cats found, were on May 10th “Mothers day”. they were sliced open and left on a front yard. One of the animals was ”posed” for shock effect.

I would say this Tard has some VERY serrius Mommy issues, to say the least. I cant tell what Mommy he hated the most, his bio-mom or the new step mommy his daddy recently married. At his dads house there is a “cat-finder” sticker on the door. Its used to notify the fire department that there is a cat in the house.

That was the one taken last Sunday. The first mug shot that has a blue back ground was his drivers license photo. The real mug was taken after they took him from the party, around midnight. He was probly ripped and stoned in the pict.

To the parents of Tyler Weinman: How does it feel to have this little prick for a son? Were you so engrossed in your own lives (marrying, divorcing, finding new partners) that you didn’t have a clue there was a serial animal abuser/killer in your midst? What kind of asshole did you raise?

The scary thing about Tyler Weinman is that even if he serves jail time it will be more than likely rather short and he will be out again. From his mug shot he clearly finds amusement in what happened here. And we all know he wouldn’t have stopped if he hadn’t been caught. I have a feeling we may be reading about Tyler Weinman again on DD and the next time the crime will be far worse than killing someone’s cat.

That’s kinda fucked up. Animal killing is a symptom of sociopathy which research suggests is an inherent tendency rather than a result of upbringing. Sociopaths are known for being manipulative; often, people don’t even know they’re associated with a sociopath until they do something fucked up. This kid could have been the ideal kid at home and in school, for all we know. Hell, if they think there are others involved, the kid may not even be a sociopath. It could have been a prank that developed into something darker, and a group of kids wanted to see how far they could push it. Either way, the kid’s 18. His parents aren’t his keeper. To attribute blame to them at this point isn’t really appropriate, I don’t think.

It’s a good point made about when he’ll likely get out. Odds are, he won’t be given the maximum. A sentence heavy in therapy would be a good idea.

    granny-g –

a vet once told me an interesting tidbit about cat psychology. cats are hunters, but they’re also prey — out in the country, for example, owls and foxes eat them. because of that, they’re often intensely conscious of being observed by strangers, who could turn out to be hunters themselves. Paradoxically, then, the person who ignores the cat and makes no eye-contact may think she’s giving off “don’t bother me” vibes, but what the cat may be reading is “i’m safe and won’t eat you.”

I dont think the first killings were done as a prank Athena, but I do think some of the later ones were possibly done that way, with one or more friends. The police did say they had multiple arrest warrants and today they mentioned that one of the places they had tracked Tyler was on You Tube. Which implies possible video’s of the cats being abused or harassed or even killed.

At the morning news conference, Miami-Dade Police Maj. Julie Miller assigned to Cutler Bay said investigators tracked Weinman through tips from the community and postings on YouTube, Facebook and MySpace.

For everyone bringing up “therapy” for this cat-killing piece of shit…provided he did in fact do it and it sounds like the cops have some pretty good evidence…therapy is 100 percent useless for true sociopaths. They can not, and will not, change. If this kid is one, and it sounds like he very well may be, then fuck therapy. I hope someone just offs him in prison because when he gets out he will be a danger to society for as long as he lives. Sentences for animal abuse, especially where torture and depravity of this magnitude are concerned, need to be MUCH harsher.

I wonder if this kid looked all goth or otherwise not your typical preppy white boy, if people would be feeling sorry for him and “assuming” that someting must have happened to him to cause him to behave in this manner.

I think a lot of people don’t understand that personality disorders, antisocial/sociopathic personality disorders chief among them, are not a mental illness, at least not by legal standards. These people know right from wrong. It is a mistake to blame their actions on “illness.”

NO killing of any innocent creature should ever be considered a “prank”. On what level could ANY decent person think tormenting an innocent creature is fun, or the pain inflicted when the people who love them find their little battered bodies. To me what these shitbags did is the same as killing human children. And YES, I put them on equal footing with humans. Hell, they ARE better than us, ans shit like this just proves it.

Veronica, I totally agree, and you are 100% right, if he didn’t look all preppy and “clean” people wouldn’t be SO quick to think the best of him. If he had weird hair, piercing, wore BLACK for God’s sake or had tatts, then this behavior would not be so SHOCKING to people. Looks are deceiving; sometimes the best looking and “preppy” people are the vilest, as in this case.

Weinman has been placed on suicide watch, according to officials at the Miami-Dade County Main jail. TGK officials told CBS4 News that Weinman was transferred to the 9th floor of the Miami-Dade County Jail Monday morning which is usually reserved for mentally ill patients.

In addition to the high bail amount, which has been set higher than some murder cases, Glazer ordered a psychiatric evaluation. Once Weinman posts bail, he will be required to wear an electronic monitor.

He showed up in court today over video link dressed in the paper clothing they give to suicide people. There probly not taking any chances, of him killing himself, more than him being suicidal. The judge found “probable cause” to to hold Weinman over for trial.

Tyler Weinman made only one comment via video link from the Miami-Dade County Pretrial Detention Center, greeting County Judge Mindy S. Glazer at the outset of his hearing. The boyish-faced Weinman was wearing a prison-issued suicide gown — a one-piece garment designed to limit an inmate’s ability to hurt himself.

Glazer found probable cause to hold Weinman over for trial on 19 counts of animal cruelty, four charges of burglary and 19 counts of improperly disposing of animal carcasses. She set bail at $249,500, but also required that he wear an electronic monitoring device and undergo a psychiatric evaluation before his release. “I’m concerned about his safety and the safety of the community,” Glazer said

If convicted of all charges, Weinman could face a maximum sentence of 158 years in prison, State Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Terry Chavez told the Associated Press

….Cutler Bay and Palmetto Bay. In many of the cases, family pets had been snatched after dark, taken to an unknown location where they were mutilated, and then returned to their homes hours later, where the bodies were often discovered by horrified pet owners.

Mayor Paul S. Vrooman visited 13 homes of residents who lost pets, to assure them of the depth of police concern about the case, even though he suffers from an allergy to cats. “I just felt like that was the way to share what they’ve gone through,” Vrooman said

…..My skin crawls when I think that this person has been in this neighborhood — God knows how many times – writing down addresses where they’ve seen cats,” Mayes said

This is a serial killer in the making. No doubt he will get bored with cats at some point not too far in the future and start hacking away at humans. And nobody will stop him–no way will he be in jail for more than six months. I’d be surprised if he serves that. The cats are just a practice run for this mutant.

Unless you have personal knowledge about the parents being in denial about their mutant of a son, or enabling him, or being too “engrossed in their own lives” to render them clueless, your indictment of them may be patently unfair. Not every parent is a Cindy Anthony. Some see their children grow up without a conscience because they were born that way, not because of anything they did. If you, however, have personal knowledge, I stand corrected and would be interested in hearing more about their parenting. It is time to make an example out of the shits so that they KNOW taking any life has value. I don’t have kids and my cats are my babies. I would gladly spend life behind bars to kill any sick fuck who hurt my children, regardless of whether they have two or four legs. This isn’t just about the animals. He/they didn’t hide or dump the bodies when done. And he/they didn’t leave the bodies in a public area in order to alarm just anyone that came upon them.

No, the poor things were returned to their owners and displayed for maximum shock value. Which seems to beg the question what was the real intent, torturing the cats or the people?

It will be interesting to see if this jerk did this on his own or had help.

People’s level of outrage raises to the level of the particular pet’s cuteness or popularity. Had this kid been going around killing the family bearded dragon, it wouldn’t had made the news, and even had it done so, there would have been no outrage from the public.

That being said, I grew up with a kid who tortured birds and loved fucking with cats (use to sling them on to rooftops by their tails) and he didn’t grow up a psychopath. He just looked at cats and birds the same way others may look at the last ant, bee or spider you stomped on. I guess an animal has to be a mammal before it becomes wrong to kill it.

But there is something to be said about the fact that more people will get upset and comment on stories of animal getting killed, over a baby being murdered.
