Tara Anderson Didn’t Want Her Baby

June 5, 2009 at 6:50 am by

West Springfield, MassachusettsEarly Saturday morning, a couple returning to their room at the Welcome Inn heard a faint cry coming from the room next to theirs. “I’m the mother of two. It was just my sense that something was wrong,” said Kimberly Dougherty. “It was a different kind of cry.” Curious, she stepped outside. She noticed the door to the room was ajar and peeked inside. In a room littered with beer cans, in the middle of the bed, lay a brand new baby girl, still covered in placenta, with her umbilical cord still attached. Kimberly and her husband swaddled the newborn in towels and waited on paramedics.

Police soon learned the name of the abandoned infant’s mother through the person who had originally booked the room where the baby was found. She was also identified from a surveillance tape from a convenience store where she bought lottery tickets a short time after the child’s birth. The incubator’s name was Tara Anderson. Police issued a warrant for the woman’s arrest. They finally caught up the bitch on Thursday morning. 37-year-old Tara Anderson will be arraigned on charges of infant abandonment and reckless endangerment of a child. Those charges, both misdemeanors, can carry a term of 2-2 1/2 years in prison upon conviction. The infant, said to be about 1 to 2 hours old when discovered, was taken into state custody.

To add a weird little twist to the story, a friend of Tara’s spoke out. Julio Reyes told CBS3 that Tara didn’t abandon the baby at all.  “I’m the one that gave birth to her baby. I was there from first to last and know she didn’t abandon the baby,” says Julio. According to Dr. Julio, Tara didn’t abandon the baby, she “left it with someone responsible.” But he’s not saying who the responsible party was. Yeah…I’m buying it. Asshat. I can’t wait to see how this one turns out.

this is hanis. give birth, then go play the lottery right after? i think you would have thought you won the lottery already by giving life to another. insane.

    Dearest Julio,

I think you meant that you delivered the baby. If you delivered it you should be in the Ripley’s Believe or Not.

Also, you should learn not to give yourself up as an accomplice the next time you give birth…er, deliver a child.

    XOXO

She won the lottery by having someone find the baby before it died.

2-2 1/2 years for leaving a child to die doesn’t seem right.

    Ewww! Major ewwww!!!

Tara Anderson, 37, smoked crack and performed a sexual act on a john twice before giving birth sometime before midnight Saturday at the Welcome Inn in West Springfield, Hampden County Assistant District Attorney Corinne Rock said in court. The john told police he paid Anderson $60 to buy crack cocaine that day and then paid Anderson for sex.

So, right this asshat believes it would help the case.
Stupid ass Julio if you delivered the baby why didn’t you clean the baby up and why was she still in her placenta.
If, he is a doc he needs his license revoked for lying and being stupid.

    When will you people learn…

CRACK HO’s don’t CARE about ANYTHING except the CRACK.

Not a baby, not the health of a baby, not if they are pregnant with a baby, not who delivers the baby…only how they can get some more money to go buy more crack with.

I truly hope this angel will not have the health problems associated with being  a “crack baby”–Those poor babies are what made my mom leave pediatric nursing in the mid-Ninties when they were showing up in her ward DAILY.  Mom’s heart just couldn’t stand seeing the apathy anymore.

Tara S. Anderson’s maternal instincts were apparently awoken as she sat behind bars after being charged with abandoning her newborn at a West Springfield motel in May.

The 37-year-old told a judge on Thursday that she wants her baby back.

Under a plea agreement, she admitted to reckless endangerment of a child while a child abandonment charge was dropped. Anderson was sentenced by Springfield District Court Judge Jacques Leroy to a year in jail, and ordered to participate in intensive drug treatment upon her release.

Anderson’s lawyer, Stephen H. Newman, said his client was a battered woman who turned to drugs several years ago.

“After being abused and tortured and beaten, she kind of gave up. She is a basically good woman . . . Her goal right now would be reunification with this child,” Newman told Leroy.

    “Reunification?” Leroy asked incredulously.

“She’d obviously have to be clean as a whistle,” Newman quickly responded.

Early reports were that she took off after giving birth in the middle of the night. But, she has argued she hid behind a bathroom door and listened for police to arrive and say they would take the baby to the hospital. Because of a default warrant against her, she was afraid of being arrested by police, she said.

Newman said Anderson has spent nearly three months in solitary confinement, is taking medication for bipolar disorder and is participating in anger management and addiction counseling.

Leroy handed down the sentence, lamenting over the circumstances.

“The neglect. The reckless neglect. It’s profound,” he told Anderson. “It’s a baby, after all.”
