Hell to the Bus Driver, Edward Comperchio

Mt. Arlington, NJ –  I’ll be the first to say that school bus drivers have a pretty crappy job.  Kudos for those who do the job and keep their sanity.  Lacking abundant patience with other people’s kids and a general annoyance of other drivers, I couldn’t drive a school bus.  I might possibly end up in jail for smacking some smart ass teen upside the head.  However, that isn’t what school bus driver Edward M. Comperchio was arrested for.

Edward Comperchio

Comperchio, 74, a driver for the Mt. Arlington School District, grades K through 8th, was arrested for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old student, on several or more occasions, in his parked bus before beginning his morning route.  Police refuse to say how many times these heinous assaults occurred, or what brought this elderly bus driver to their attention.

In addition to digital penetration of the girl’s genitals, Comperchio is accused of touching her breasts and buttocks for his own sexual gratification, according to the complaint.   Comperchio has been charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault and third-degree endangerment of the girl and is being held on a $100,000 bond.  Family, friends and neighbors say this is not like Comperchio, and he is a good husband, father, grandfather and all around great, albeit  really ancient guy.  By the way, just how old is too old to be driving a school bus?   Anyway, hell to the bus driver!

An “Ancient” pedo??? Just goes to show, you never really know someone, even if you live with them, unless of course, you live with them 24/7, even going to the bathroom together…….
I wonder how long the 12 year old has been riding said bus???
She’s gonna need and hopefully get, plenty of counseling!!

I’d imagine she was first on his route.
He needs to be beaten to death, but not after being nearly beaten to death a few times.

Okay, first off let me say that this creep lives (lived?) a few blocks away from my house. He drove for the same bus company who picks up and drops off my 5 1/2 year old son to and from school. I was just saying yesterday to my mother that who knows, this creep could have had my son’s bus route and could have done the same.. god i dont even wanna think about that. But it’s true. I feel horribly for that poor little girl who had to deal with all of this! And just to let everyone know, he did not drive for the Mt. Arlington Bus Line. He drove for another bus line, it just so happened that his route was in Mt. Arlington. I am so angered by this story because it (literally) hits too close to home. I work as a child safety specialist and part of my job is to keep track of these creeeps and pedophiles, and I’m always checking sex offenders in the surrounding areas, it just so happened that this one happened to stay under the radar. Parents, please, it could happen to anyone, anywhere. You would never think that the old man bus driver would be the one to do this to your child.. but this just goes to show you…

Jesery — you are so right. With my granddaughter’s upcoming summer visit, I’ve been doing weekly neighborhood checks. We have one older one, 89 y.o. about 1/4 mile away and just registered as a SO less than five years ago.

Before I started checking regularly, we used to see him sitting out front, with his walker, nearly every day. Then I saw him, but didn’t quite connect it. Then I read all of the charges: drugs, drinking, contributing to, etc., and it all made sense. It had been going on for years and years and he either pissed off someone or got caught. The thought did cross my mind that it wasn’t him at all, but someone else living there; however, he pled out.

Haven’t seen him outside for over a year, but he’s still on the list, same address. List seems very current in our area, but you know how that goes.

Stella, I’m sorry to hear that. But at least youre doing the smart thing and checking for these sex offenders in your area.

My first thought was what the hell 74 years old and still driving a bus, then when I found out he was a pedo that explained that.  My 2nd thought was why do people always stick up for these assholes?  Oh yeah he is a great guy, he would never do this, etc. Really since you sincerely believe that why don’t you have him babysit for your children right now.  It maddens me!

Comperchio had been held in the Morris County jail in lieu of $100,000 bail, without any 10-percent option. He was released Monday when a family member posted his bail, in a property bond on his home in Hopatcong, according to court records.

Pedophilia is a horrible thing, absolutely, but I was in education for over 30 years working with very troubled and disturbed kids and more than once I saw innocent school personnel falsely accused.  Remember all the preschool accusations that were made years ago and innocent people spent years in jail.  It turned out the kids were saying things they thought the questioning adults wanted to hear, what the adults were guiding them to say,  they thought they were being “good.”   Stories are recanted all the time.  No only that, pedophilia is a lifelong problem.  If this were true, other victims would be coming out of the woodwork like the Catholic priest scandals.  And there is nothing here.  My gut feeling is there will be a lot more to this story as this case progresses.  In the meantime, we have the responsibility to seek justice and not injure a very possibly innocent man.  Just think what this is costing his family in every way if theses are false allegations.   Just wait for the entire story.  That is what we should be doing.

I cant believe it! He’s free! Ever since i heard that, I’ve been very uneasy. I mean, he lives in my town! I read or heard somewhere that he confessed? Not sure if that is correct or not but who knows, whether these accusations are false or not, I’m not going to feel safe until I know more and either his name is cleared OR he is behind bars.

Hopefully they will clear the matter up one way or the other so people do not have to wonder where he is a pedo or not; but let’s keep perspective on this: Even if he is guilty of what they suspect, he is hardly a danger to anybody over school age who is not compelled to be in his company on their own. And I somehow think his bus-driving days are over now.
