Staten Island, New YorkI have a verbal agreement with my teen-age monsters–my house, my rules. If you choose to continue living with me past the age of 18, it’s still my house, my rules. Don’t like it? Move. On Sunday, James DeLeo Sr., confronted his 18-year-old son, James Jr., about one of those rules–curfew. Jr. was out past curfew the night before and his father was unhappy with it. When confronted, Jr. pitched a massive fit, and bashed his dad in the face with a shovel.

James Jr. went nutso…first pulling a knife on his father, then punching him square in the face. After James Sr., who suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, was on the floor, Jr. kicked and stomped him repeatedly, until the man was unconscious. He wasn’t done yet…little asshole grabbed a shovel and proceeded to smash his father’s face in. Jr.’s friend and room-mate could do nothing but watch as the horror unfolded. ‘I was pulling him off his father constantly, trying to get him back, but he had this animal strength,’ Edward McCallion said. McCallion reports that Jr. had spent some time, the previous evening, drinking, poppin’ Xanax and partaking in some PCP.

When police arrived, James Jr. was standing outside, his clothing covered in his father’s blood. He initially told officers an intruder attacked his father, but by then, they knew better. James DeLeo Jr. was arraigned on charges of attempted murder. He is being held without bail. James DeLeo Sr., 45, suffered multiple skull fractures and lies in a coma in Richmond University Medical Center. He’s in critical but stable condition.

As the parent of some  ”troubled” adult children, I have on occasion (repeatedly) allowed them to move back home. Always repeating “you know the rules”. After a few times of being the forgiving Mom I came to learn…………You break the rules you no longer live HERE…the end.
Tough Love may not work to get them to straighten out but it sure as heck
keeps them from having free run to try to kill you.
No argument just “you do not live here anymore”.

Oh what a little bastard. The effects drugs can have on you. It’s really sad. Over curfew nonetheless. What, he couldnt admit he was wrong and apologize? The father, trying to be a good parent and keep his adult son stable by setting a few simple rules, gets his face bashed in with a shovel instead. Seriously, what the hell is wrong with people?

These aren’t just any drugs, dude. They mentioned PCP. A lot of the sickest crimes you hear about are associated with PCP – most recently, the dad who ate out the eyes of his 4 year old child. Slightly less recently, the father who repeatedly tried to cook his baby in the oven. A mother killed her 7 year old daughter, stabbing her more than 35 times and stabbing a neighbor who tried to stop the attack. A rapper killed and ate the lungs of a female associate while on PCP. And those are just a slight few of the myriad horror stories associated with PCP. From Wiki:

“Included in the portfolio of behavioral disturbances are acts of self-injury including suicide, and attacks on others or destruction of property. The analgesic properties of the drug can cause users to feel less pain, and persist in violent or injurious acts as a result. Recreational doses of the drug can also induce a psychotic state that resembles schizophrenic episodes which can last for months at a time with toxic doses. Users generally report an “out-of-body” experience where they feel detached from reality, or one’s consciousness seems somewhat disconnected from normal reality.”

There is evidence that PCP isn’t your standard “drugs and alcohol” cop-out. The stuff was discontinued for use during surgery because patients would often come out of surgery in full psychosis. That’s as insane as insanity gets. Complete detachment from reality.

So, yeah… PCP use could have quite easily contributed to or even caused this situation.

I hear you; but he still chose to take it himself…….

Oh, absolutely. I’m not saying that he should get off on an insanity defense. When you willingly and intentionally take a mind-altering substance, your resulting behavior is absolutely your responsibility.

My point was simply that drugs, particularly those known for causing psychosis, can absolutely be “blamed” for crimes like this. In a lot of these cases, there’s no evidence that these individuals were violent under any other circumstance.
