Athena, you have articulated my position on the death penalty exactly.  Intellectually, I am against the DP for the reasons you stated.  Emotionally, I find myself wanting to see the people we read about here fry.  But this really shouldn’t be an emotional argument.

I agree.  Many times, out of pure emotion, I have said “why don’t you just freaking die” when reading the stories on this site.  I can’t say whether I’m totally for or against the death penalty (it depends on the situation), but if they are going to use it, it is IMPERATIVE that they are absolutely positive, no chance of being wrong, that they have the correct perpetrator of the crime.  It scares the bejesus out of me to think of people being put to death for crimes they didn’t commit.

In this case, and this is just my opinion based on what I read, I think she was probably trying to hide from the authorities, the baby started crying, and she put her hand over her mouth to quiet her and tragically the baby died.  I’m not excusing what she did at all - that baby is dead, it is more than likely her fault and she should definitely pay, but from what I read I don’t think it was premeditated, just a horrible accident……caused by her complete and total stupidity and selfishness of course.  Rest in peace little one.

This woman is pure evil… no person with any love inside them could do that to a baby. To their own baby, and for such a selfish and stupid reason.

I have no moral qualms with the death penalty; if we could guarantee that the people we were putting down were actually guilty of what they’ve been charged with, I’d pull the trigger myself, so to speak. But to date, hundreds of people have been exonerated, and those are just the individuals who were lucky enough to have the DNA evidence preserved.

I don’t have a hard time agreeing with the death penalty when it comes to children being hurt, in any way. I say kill her, she is broken beyond repair.

If she accidently suffocated her, why did the police have to find her in a crawl space with the lifeless baby in her arms?  If it were an accident, you think she wouldn’t be hiding, but running to the officers for help reviving her baby.  I think the other poster got it right…the baby was blowing it for her

I don’t. I fall firmly on the pro side of the death penalty. I just hate that it’s so easy for them. A tranquilizer and a needle. Pffft….. An eye for an eye, same mode of death for the the perp as as the one they murdered.
