Gayle and Sheila Muhs: Redneck Psycho Nutjobs with Guns

Dayton, Texas – I can’t think of a better description of these two. Just their mugshots alone has given me a dueling banjos earworm that I can’t seem to shake. These guys make the Squidbillies look like an educational animated program for preschoolers. The only thing that is keeping me from laughing out loud is the fact that these fucknuts delivered a couple of shotgun blasts to two vehicles full of “trespassers” and ended up killing a 7 year old.

The family of 7 year old Donald Coffey, Jr. were visiting friends who lived near the rural neighborhood these two inbred crazies called home. They decided to go off -roading at some nearby government owned levees which is a perfectly legal activity and common in the area. At some point, the one of the boys needed to go to the bathroom and the two vehicles pulled over to the side of the road…unfortunately in front of the Muh’s residence which has a huge sign out front warning “Trespassers will be shot! Survivors will be reshot! Smile I will.”

Sheila Muhs ran out of the house screaming like a deranged banshee for the families to get off their property and then proceeded to shoot at the vehicles. The families yelled for them to stop shooting because there were children in the car, but they continued. Sheila put down the shotgun at one point to chase the first vehicle on her all terrain vehicle, only to have Gayle pick it back up to blast the second vehicle which was already fleeing. Donald Coffey, his older sister, father and another adult family friend were all hit with shotgun pellets. Donald’s hits being mostly to his head and face. As the families fled and got medical care for the wounded in the vehicles, Sheila Muh returned home, called 911 and told the dispatcher that some people were “tearing up the levees” and she shot them. Overreact much? Geez.
Even though the state of Texas does have a law that allows property owners to shoot at trespassers on their property at night, that law would not apply in this case. Little Donald Coffey’s family and friends were on public property the entire time and never set foot on the Muh’s property. Donald Jr. succumbed to his injuries a couple of days later and the couple is now facing murder charges. I can’t help but wish they would do some genetic testing to see if these two are related. This kind of lunacy only comes from years of inbreeding.

Athena, I had the same thought, the movie “Wrong Turn”. These two are for sure inbreeds. I can’t stop looking at them, I have never seen people that look like that in my entire life!

Where I live you’d want to be very careful about where you pulled over to take a piss. A lot of people in this area don’t like trespassers. But a kid taking a whizz on the side of the road on public property? Who gives a shit! We may be rednecks where I come from, but these two are just scum scraped from the bottom of the cesspool.

Real life horror flick story.. Chainsaw Massacre types. I get a little queasy inside knowing that these kind of hillbillies still exist out there… they are as loony as hell! Our grandma had a moonshiner using her property in the woods for his ’still operation’; she said even the cops didn’t want to mess with him because he was more animal than human. Tennessee still has some, but they are dying-off from drinking their own “Shine”, I’m told.

I have never been exposed to hillbillies. I know that in me confessing this makes me sound ignorant, but I really have never seen such a thing. I once took a trip to Nashville and my friend who lived there took me over the state line into KY to a flea market. He said he wanted to show me “inbred’s” I saw a dude who looked like Sloth from the Goonies and other people who looked like they crawled out from under rocks. Not saying that people from KY are inbred but this particular area, he quoted as being very …hmm….banjoish….for lack of a better word. Thought it would be a great buzz enhancer. and says I talk like Joy on My Name is Earl. I don’t even like country music. I’m rock and alternative. My husband does listen to country and he drives a big-ass truck. He does have a cowboy hat but he only wears it to the rodeo. I don’t think we are too different from anywhere else in the country.
The men…there are still some good ones. Yesterday, we saw this lab get hit by a car and run off into some really high grass. My husband and another guy both pulled over to see if they could find the dog and help it. They didn’t even give it a second thought. The other guy said he had somewhere to go but just couldn’t live with himself if he didn’t try to help that dog knowing that it was someone’s pet.

because not everyone lives in the city with cops 5min away. Dam right if you live out in middle of nowhere and the next house is 20 miles away, and it’ll take the cops an hour or more to get there, and there’s no reason for anyone to have driven miles in the middle of the night to get to your property. Shoot 1st ask what the hell they’re doing there 2nd.

I suppose it makes sense to establish a way for people to protect themselves when the police are too far away, but damn, it seems like there ought to be a better way than shooting at people.

These people on the opposite end of the spectrum are sorely needed. The help to balance the laws that swung too far the other way. The sense of entitlement to shoot people in Texas was obviously overexaggerated here.

Coffey doesn’t understand why the tragedy had to happen.
In the past, he said, he has given four-wheeler rides to the Muhses’ 8-year-old boy. He also recalls friendly visits with the Muhs family, including a jovial conversation with Sheila Muhs and her eldest son two hours before the shooting.

Wow…that’s the least astonishing part of the article, to me. What amazes me is that the grieving father checked up on the Muhs kids, who go to his kids’ school, and he made sure his son’s organs helped save three lives. (I had a young friend who needed a heart transplant – such young donors are very hard to find.)
Major, major props to Mr. Coffey.
