Thomas Dexter Is Blaming The Bathtub

Lafayette, IN- This story has a shitty beginning, but the ending is even worse. Thomas Dexter had been living with his girlfriend, Amber Haper, and her three kids, ages 9 months, 3 yrs. and 6 yrs. On April 30′th, the 3-year old, Kimberly Snow, was left in Dexter’s care while her mother and siblings went to a WICS appointment. Her mother said she left around 9:15 a.m. and Kimberly, who was getting dressed at the time, was healthy and uninjured. At 10 a.m. Dexter called 911 stating there had been an accident and Kimberly was unconscious.

When the officers arrived, Dexter told them that Kimberly was in the bathtub and, after being gone for a few minutes, he came back and found her face submerged in the water. This story seemed unlikely when an officer noted that Kimberly’s neck and right arm were dry to the touch. Kimberly was originally taken to Home Hospital and was later transferred to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis where she was listed in critical condition. A CT scan showed that Kimberly suffered a subdural hematoma, or a type of traumatic brain injury that causes blood to pool around the brain. She also had retinal hemorrhages in both eyes and a compression spinal fracture.
When officers asked Dexter to explain Kimberly’s extensive injuries, he said that the child had peed her pants. Dexter said he took her into the bathroom to change her clothes and clean her up and as he was playfully tossing her in the air, he accidentally dropped her in the tub which caused her to strike her back on the edge and her head on the bottom of the tub. Dexter also said Kimberly’s head struck either the door frame or a wall when he carried her out of the bathroom. Dr. Hibbard, who is known to be a leading expert in the State of Indiana in child abuse examinations, examined Kimberly and stated that Kimberly’s injuries were caused by inflicted trauma and could not have been accidental. Thomas Dexter, 31, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery and neglect causing serious bodily injury to a child. He was released from jail after he quickly posted a $25,000 bond.
After about a week in the hospital, Kimberly died at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2009.The coroner’s office has conducted an autopsy and have told police that the child’s death was from hemhorrage due to blunt force trauma to the head, but the final autopsy report will not be available for several weeks. Investigators interviewed Kimberly’s 6-year-old sister and she said that Dexter would discipline them by spanking, smacking them in the mouth or making them stand in the corner, but only while their mom was at work. She said Kimberly also got in trouble with Dexter and their mother when she peed her pants. Dexter was charged with Neglect of a Dependent resulting in death. He is being held in jail on both a 15-day probation detention and a $100,000 surety bond. The investigation is still ongoing.

Ok this one really got me. When she didn’t initally die I thought ok maybe she’ll make it, then no the last paragraph told me otherwise…..then to scroll down and see her picture. I have a 3 year old, she is pretty much potty trained, but every once on a while she forgets to go then has an accident running to the bathroom or something. You know who I blame, myself! I should of reminded her and took her to the bathroom. They are children for god’s sake. This guy, damn……

One glance at this guy and I already know I don’t want him around me or my kids. The mother lets this prick play “Daddy” and apparently allows him to discipline her children. Kids don’t have a say in who the parents bring into the house; shame on parents who sacrifice the well-being of their children just so they can enjoy sex and free babysitting. The woman was on welfare and working… I bet this bum contributed nothing but a few orgasms a week for his upkeep; now, he’s killed one of the children.

Yes, Cassiemomma, I had the same reaction. When I read she was in stable condition I was feeling a bit better for her. Then I read she died, and then saw her little face. Well my mom instincts kicked in and then I wanted blood. I hate these waste of life!

That poor little girl. I know it’s hard and lonely to be raise children by yourself but these women have to think doubly hard when they have kids before bringing a man into their home and even more so if they are going to leave their children alone with them.

You know to be totally honest I never ever wanted kids. I had a surprise baby 8 months ago. I love that little guy more than anything… I could not possibly imagine getting mad enough where I threw him in the bathtub. Jees what is it with bath tubs anyways? I am so effing tired of hearing “he/she fell in the bathtub”. And where the fuck do these women find these men anyways? My son has never stayed with anyone except my mother and my step mother. I just dont get it thats all.

Why is it that parents (or non-parent caregivers) seem to lose it when kids have accidents? I don’t see what could be so infuriating about such a minor issue.
She was an adorable little thing. So sad. To see her happy face looking into the camera over a birthday cake just reduces me to tears.
Dexter was also asked to sign and adhere to a no contact order.
“Dexter is being held in the Tippecanoe County Jail on both a 15-day probation detention and a $100,000 surety bond.
Prosecutor Pat Harrington said the probation hold stems from a 2004 burglary at a relative’s Lafayette residence.
The case was filed in Tippecanoe Circuit Court.
Harrington said Dexter pleaded guilty to lesser counts of residential entry and theft.
He was sentenced in April 2005 to a combination of community corrections and probation.”

That little girl was soo cute. This guy deserves to never see the light of day ever again. Who gives a flying fuck if a 3 year old pees their pants! Thats what 3 year olds do! Unbelievably sad…
