Clyde Elmer Haidle Raped An 11-year-old

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania–An 11-year-old girl stepped off the school bus Thursday afternoon and was on her way home when she encountered 46-year-old Clyde Elmer Haidle, along with two other adults, sitting on the steps of an abandoned house. Haidle talked with the child for about 30 seconds before she continued home. A short time later, for reasons unknown, the girl reappeared. This time, Haidle was alone.

Haidle grabbed the child by the neck and dragged her into the abandoned house and raped her. After the assault, he took the girl’s underwear and cell phone and let her go. The child ran to a nearby home and asked for help. When police arrived, the child described her attacker. A man in the neighborhood told police the description matched Clyde Haidle. Police then used a bloodhound to track Haidle’s scent.
In the mean time, Haidle was sitting in his own home watching the story unfold on the 5:00 news. He told another person in the home, ‘I might be in trouble.’ Minutes later, officers arrived at the home. Haidle was discovered cowering beneath the floor boards. ‘He had cut a crawl space into the floor boards and covered it with an area rug and a milk crate nailed to the floor,’ said Lt. Jack Kearney. the hole, officers found the child’s underwear. Haidle, linked to the rape by DNA, was arrested and charged with indecent assault, false imprisonment, rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, endangering the welfare of children and corruption of minors. He is being held on $150,000 straight bond. Haidle told police he had oral sex with the girl, but said he thought she was 15. *puke* Though Haidle has prior convictions on charges such as assault and disorderly conduct, police have not found any history of sex crimes.

Ah, c’mon. I have a retired cop step-father and several cop friends. Yes, there are asshole cops. Plenty of them. Just like there are asshole accountants, doctors, supermarket cashiers, teachers, construction workers and city bus drivers. But there are a lot of dedicated and hardworking cops, too. Good people with big hearts. Don’t grab the widest brush you can find to paint all cops alike. That was a shitty slam.

To the parents who think your child is safe because they have a cell phone:
Cell phones for children rarely amount to anything more than a false sense of security and an easy way to find trouble. If you’re looking to spend money on something that will actually keep your child safe, might I recommend self-defense classes?
This girl was snagged outside, in broad daylight. Had she known effective defense techniques, she might have been able to save herself. Frankly, she’s lucky to be alive.

Suspect’s father says lock em up!

“I’m devastated,” he said. “It’s really difficult as a parent to watch your child go through something like this. She’s only 11 years old.”

Channel 11’s Renee Kaminski sat down for an interview with the suspect’s father.
“I knew it was going to happen sooner or later. I knew it,” said Clyde Haidle Sr.
“He lived nothing but a life of trouble,” Haidle said. “He just don’t seem like he’s ever going to grow up and learn.”
When asked why his son would want to hurt a little girl, Haidle had no idea. “He’s sick,” he said. “There’s something wrong with him.”
“He just needs to be put away,” Haidle said.
A neighboring resident, Nina Kopa, heard the cries of the child.
“Some girl started running down the street yelling, ‘Help me, I’ve been raped’,” Kopa said. “We took her in, called 911.”
The girl told police the man approached her and started talking to her, then grabbed her by the neck and forced her into the abandoned house.

Several neighbors on Naylor Street, a few blocks from the scene of the attack, said Haidle was not popular in the neighborhood.
Missie Stewart, 48, said Haidle lived across the street from her “on and off” for 10 years.
“We’ve been trying to get rid of him for years,” Stewart said. “He is not well-liked in the neighborhood.”
Stewart said she was locked out of her house one night when Haidle approached her and made suggestive remarks. “After that, I didn’t want to leave the house. I didn’t want to run into him,” she said.

I’m confused about the involuntary part.
The little girl really is lucky to be alive. My heart goes out to her and her family, but also to the suspect’s father. Must be terrible knowing someone is a ticking time bomb and not being able to do anything about it.

This guy is a repeat offender and spent nearly 15 years in prison in Oklahoma. From article linked below:
“A 46-year-old man charged by Pittsburgh police with raping an 11-year-old girl in an abandoned house had spent nearly 15 years in the Oklahoma prison system for rape and other charges.
The Oklahoma Department of Corrections Web site shows Clyde Haidle Jr. was convicted in October 1987 of robbery with a dangerous weapon and rape. He was imprisoned until January 2002.
Pittsburgh police had previously said they didn’t know if Haidle had a record for sexual assault.”

I may be in the minority here, but who lets an 11 year old girl just go walking around a neighborhood…particularly where there are homes with vagrants hanging out, and houses in such disrepair that hidey-holes can easily be made into the floor (lift the wood planks of the old houses and you’re in.)
Granted, I live out in a more rural area now that I can afford to- BECAUSE I don’t have to worry about my kid wandering 2 houses down and this happening. Heck, we don’t let her out of our site at the house, and make sure she is with an adult when she isn’t with us.
Even in the safest of neighborhoods, it only takes SECONDS for someone to snatch up a kid and drive away.
Did the Cellphone suddenly make the girl’s parents feel she was “Safe”?
I understand that she was with friends and that some inner-city areas that this is the “norm”, and the girls were probably testing thier maturity by hanging out w/out parents, but isn’t this a high price to pay?

I’m pretty sure the “involuntary” part refers to the victim… They didn’t “volunteer” to have it done to them.
