TRENTON, Florida – 911 received a phone call at 5:30 am Monday morning in regards to a young girl not breathing. By time medical personnel arrived at the trailer of Matthew Roland and his girlfriend, Chelci Folds, Matthew’s 4-year-old daughter was already dead. Matthew has now been arrested and facing charges of aggravated child abuse and aggravated manslaughter of a child. The abuse the girl endured are heinous enough, but now it is reporting she would have survived them had she received quicker medical attention.

This girl was found with significant injuries that paint a picture of a girl who was getting her ass beat by Matthew on a regular basis. She had fresh and old bruises on her body and her left eye was sunken into her face. Her upper lip was torn on the inside of her mouth where it should have attached to her gums and bruises on Kristina’s leg appeared to match the shape and size of an electric hair straightener that was found in the bathroom along with a patch of hair still attached to a piece of scalp tissue.

But even with all that, she could have lived. Medical Examiner Dr. Martha Burt told investigators that Kristina’s multiple injuries were survivable if she had received timely medical attention. Matthew has only had custody of his daughter for the last 4 months after a paternity test proved he was the father. Kristina’s biological mother, Elizabeth Brown, told reporters she has a troubled life and that Kristina had lived with her and her brother until she sent Kristina to live with her paternal grandmother. After a series of court appearances, Matthew gained custody of Kristina.

    I am guessing that the whore mama demanded the paternity test so she could legally extort money from him – i.e. child support.  He probably got all pissy and decided to punish the whore by taking the kid, and then took it out on the poor baby.

    The girlfriend may just be an idiot. From the accounts, she is the one who was taking care of her, thinking at first she was just having asthma related issues. If I am not mistaken, she was the one performing CPR. Who know. But like a lot of the cases we feature, the characters never seem to be highly intelligent.

    That is what struck me most too — how do you “get into it” with a 4 year old? But what’s most sad is that it seems to be a recurring theme in the stories features on DD, the asshole beat the child because the child wasn’t giving them “respect” or some such crap. Another sign of stupidity, not realizing that a small child is too young to be held to adult standards, especially when those “standards” are pure bullshit in the first place! Respect, my ass.

    In all fairness to the Bio-Mom “Elizabeth Brown” the article does say she was unemployed and in the midst of a difficult pregnancy at the time and sent her with her brother to stay with her mom for a while, Durring that time Matt got custody of her.  That doesnt make her a bad mother in my eyes.  I might have done the same thing myself.  Yes she made mistakes, but I dont see the bad mom thing here at all.

    I went and checked the court records in Gilchrist County Records about the paternity suit and the temporary custody.  It looks to me like Matt who had no previous contact with his daughter was going to be held accountable for child support. Past and present, so to get out of it he tried to get custody, not because he actually gave a rats ass about her but he didn’t want to pay for it and because he was unemployed and he couldn’t afford it anyways.  
    The records show Elizabeth fought against it and even though Matt got temporary custody Elizabeth was still was trying to get her daughter back and was close to achieving that goal.  And I would say is the reason he was so mean to her and took it out on her that night.

    Didn’t look right? Yeah, I would imagine not, with the extent of the injuries described.

    Not sure if she will even reveal all that info, but again, you got to REALLY fuck up as a mother to lose your daughter to someone that was just basically a sperm donor.

    Obviously we’re dealing with two different states, here, but is anyone else a bit troubled that this guy is charged with manslaughter of a child while Gustavo Torres-Medel was charged with first-degree murder (as it should be, IMO). 

     I just don’t understand how deliberately beating a child to death, which almost always follows a prolonged period of abuse, is ever NOT first-degree murder.  Are DA’s offices really so unsure they can get a first-degree murder conviction when the victim is a defenseless child?  

    And research has shown that minorities are likely to be charged more harshly for committing the same crimes as white people.  I kind of hate to bring that up, but how fucked up is that?  Why aren’t they ALL charged as harshly as the law allows?  Prosecutors do have some discretion here, why they would ever choose the child abuse/manslaughter route, I just don’t get it.

    Perhaps in certain states the first-degree murder law is written in a very specific way that won’t allow it in these cases…

    I agree with Bill Maher, IMO it’s bullshit you are punished more harshly in this country for calmly planning and executing your crime than for “snapping” and killing in a rage.  Honestly, I think the whole underlying reasoning behind “degrees” of murder is crap, as is the fact you can murder but have it be called something else if it involves certain circumstances.  It seems people are more likely to be facing at most life in prison for “aggravated child abuse” rather than murder if their victim happens to be a child — how backwards is that?  

    At the end of the day, I’m just glad if they are at least put away for life, though even the possibility of parole, even in, say, 70 years, rubs me the wrong way especially when there is absolutely no reasonable doubt.

    Accually they do carry the death penalty if its a capital felony and re-offender. But I am not sure to what degree they are charging him with yet.
    He does have one hell of a long arrest record ( 172 ) though. But most charges were dropped against him including the domestic abuse he had last year about this same time. 

    I am with you on this, this bastard murdered his sweet precious little girl and he should pay the ultimate price for doing that considering the heinous way he did it.  It wasn’t just a momentary loss of control it was a cold and calculated torture to make her suffer as much as possible.  No dought he only stopped because she passed out or he got tuckered out.

When Matthew Roland found out that his daughter was were given to the grandparents he went and showed up with the police and took her out of their home.  He showed up at an  friend house and said that the mother was in jail for drugs.  Matt had showed up at my house around 11:30- midnight…..high and drunk, when asked where his daughter was…she was at the house in her room.  You know I called the child services hotline and basically was told to “mind my own business” in a round about way from the Levy County office. There are people out there who went to Matt’s house that are nothing but low life, scum, p.o.s. (pieces of crap), that won’t report him because he is their “boy”, and the so-called wanna be women, can’t even call them women but sorry girls. I don’t know how they can sleep at night, let alone look at themselves in the mirror. Justin being one of those along with Christian Meirs and Barbara Coons, just to mention a few. Ya know I am a man, have kids and couldn’t bear to think of doing something like that to a precious child like she was.

    If we could hold those responsible for placing these children in danger, it sure as hell wouldn’t happen as often.  Judges, DCPS and parole boards all suck. Because there is NO accountability, most of these assholes shouldn’t be out of jail to commit more crimes to begin with.

    Ugh, I know, I can’t believe a 4-year-old had dark circles!  She probably never had a good night’s sleep in her short life…poor little thing.  Please let these pieces of shit get what they deserve! 

    Considering the evidence that Matthew was seeking custody to get out of child support, it stands to reason that he never had any intention of actually caring  for her.  Seems likely he figured he would just get rid of her.  Stupid plan, of course, but he is an idiot after all. 

    This has first-degree murder written all over it!

    Great News ,  There bringing this case to a Grand Jury in 2 weeks, That means the charges can be upgraded to first-degree murder with the possibility of the state seeking the death penalty.  WHooohooo!

    Also the State Attorney Bill Cervone said they would not rule out the possibility of others being charged in the case.  (AKA  Chelci Folds )

    I am Kristina’s maternal grandmother. Just so you know…Beth did not send away Kristina. She was being a very responsible parent when she asked me to keep Kristina until she could find an apartment. She had been staying with her brother. He made a last minute decision to come back to Florida, leaving her with only a day or two to find an apartment, etc.
    She was not trying to get money out of Matt. Beth had lost her job(like 
    1,000′s of people) and had applied for assistance. The system ordered her to have a paternity test, she had no choice in the matter.
    Yes, she has made some mistakes in her life, but she is now enrolled in college and has gotten her life together. It was the system that failed Kristina, not Beth. She did everything she could to prevent Matt from getting Kristina. The temporay custody hearing was held during the time when KY was in the middle of that major ice storm. There was no way she could get out of the state to attend the hearing. She asked the court to postpone the hearing and they would not. Beth had evidence that Matt had been neglectfull in his care of Kristina after he came and got her from me.
    But since she could not get here, she couldn’t give that to the court. She has been fighting ever since Matt was given temporary custody to get Kristina back. We had a hearing set for today, that would probably have resulted in Kristina being returned to Beth.
    Don’t blame Beth, blame the system that failed. Blame the people who should have spoken up. Blame the people who lied under oath at the hearing that gave Matt custody.

    TRENTON – The Gilchrist County man accused of beating his 4-year-old daughter to death was indicted for first-degree murder Tuesday morning.
    Minutes later prosecutors said they would seek the death penalty against him.  Matthew Roland, 23, is charged with both first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse in connection with the death in April of Kristina Hepp.
    It took the eight men and eight women serving on the grand jury about 10 minutes to hand down the indictment. State Attorney Bill Cervone said he would seek the death penalty for Roland.

    Another arrest has been made in connection with the beating death of 4-year-old Kristina Hepp.

    Chelci Rae Folds, 19, was arrested Tuesday afternoon by the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office and charged with neglect of a child involving great bodily harm.

    Folds was living at a Waccasassa mobile home with Kristina and her father, Matthew Roland, 23, when Kristina was found dead inside the home on April 27.

    If anyone should be “bashed” I think it should be the state attorney for letting this happen. They want to take the easy way out.

    God, what an awful story! My heart just bleeds for this poor child, stuck in a house (not a home) with strangers who beat her. One of those strangers, purportedly her “father”, beat her to death. “Got into it” my eye. And we never hear what her so-call infraction was. How awful and disorienting to be ripped from the family she knew and placed in that hell where no one looked after her, cared for her, thought to rescue her.

    I'm astounded that the forum has spent so much time and energy on the guilt of the mother and the girlfriend. Having read all this, coming to it late, I think Mom did everything she could to get her girl back, short of kidnapping. It's true she's young, apparently has a hard time with the concept of birth control, and her choice of men leaves something to be desired. But at least it appears she had a safe home environment for Kristina, with loving step-grandparents before she moved in with her brother. Why didn't she go back to them? And keep Kristina? As to Chelsi, I wish she had had a stronger backbone to report or stand up to Matthew, and powers of discernment to see what was going on. I'm clinging to the hope that she was small bright light in the hell that Kristina endured before her death as has been suggested.

    The villain of the piece, Matthew, has gotten very little vitriol from the forum as the forum debated the guilt of the women. Matthew was the killer. (Do I have to say alleged?!!) Geez. Let's not minimize his guilt while we go on to hold everyone else responsible. He's a monster! I want to hear from his defenders!! Seems like everyone else has folks willing to hotly protest their guilt and their innocence. But, so far this POS has managed to stay unsullied. Where's the mud and shit slinging over him? He's keeping his mouth shut, too. Good idea for him, but I want to hear his lame excuses for his behavior. And, now he's going to plead guilty, and deprive us of the opportunity to hear about the testimony in court. Will there be a sentencing hearing? Anything we can get our teeth into? Do I have to cultivate a pen pal in the penitentiary system there, just so I can be sure he's exposed to the opprobrium of his fellow inmates?

    Thank God–I was just trying to find news about that babykilling shitbag. I'm glad Clueless the girlfriend got punished–maybe witnesses to babies being abused will realize it's in their own best interests to call 911.

    Oh, and I stopped by and read your posts in the forums. My heart broke for you. It seemed like you were trying to get your life together and get your daughter back, and she was murdered before you got that chance. While I can't say you've made the best choices in your life, I can't say I have, either. At least you were fighting to get her back, and you're continuing to fight to make sure your ex doesn't get a slap on the wrist for this (I wouldn't mind slaps on the wrist so much if the slapping was done with a sharp cleaver).

    And he's copping a plea deal so he can avoid the death penalty? Well, hey, let's hope that he does get life in prison…a SHORT life.

    Eh, this was posted before I became a part of DD. While Liz didn't make the best life choices, she was trying her damnedest to do right for her kids in my opinion, and she genuinely cared for Kristina.

    As for the oxygen thief sperm donor…I can't think of anything cruel enough to match what he did to his daughter. The best I can come up with so far is castrating him with rusty piano wire, then stripping him naked, binding his arms and legs, and letting monkeys with straight razors shave him.

After sleeping outside in the middle of the cemetery for the last year and a half because I can't stand the thought of her being alone in the dark…. Yes! for your information I won't ever be able to do anything again without thinking of my own child getting beaten to death because the judge “thought” it would be better this way.

    I'm so very sorry for the loss of Kristina's life. It's obvious that your life was messed up and things were difficult for you. If I put together the information correctly from the article this one links to, you have 4 children (by 4 different men, not that I'm saying this at all judgmentally), and you had the oldest when you were somewhere around 15 years old. Is that right? I am not blaming you for your hardships and I'm sorry for your loss; I gather that Kristina died even as you were pregnant with your 4th child and in financial straits. That all sounds very difficult. I can't say I understand your life choices–having all these children amid what sounds like a longterm chaotic environment in which you are not making enough money (less than $25,000) to really even take care all that comfortably of yourself, much less even 1 child or 2. Not blaming you, just hoping your life is in a calmer place and that you are able to be strong and supportive as a parent for your other children who are still alive. If you're sleeping in a graveyard every night, they're not getting much of you. They need you, too…

I know nothing about it, I just stumbled onto it and realized you just posted this. My heartfelt condolences to you.

    I'm so sorry. It wasn't your fault. Some people can be thoughtless and I often come down on people hard on this site. However, I really feel for you posting this a whole year after it happened. I hope matthew Roland rots and is tortured in prison. I hope you find the will to go on and be part of your other children's lives. My condolences to you posting this a whole year later.
