I think I am in some ways nicer to the people I am wary of, even as I try to keep my distance. I don’t want to provoke them.

On the other hand, I have also learnt to keep my distance in those sorts of situations……..

Sad to say but we are all humans.  If this guy was giving her free rides and stuff, she probably used it to her advantage when she needed it.  Not to say that she was a bad person or the “user” type person, but there may have been instances where she needed a ride and was in a rush and he might have been the only one who would be able to take her where she needed to go.  Or, funds was tight and she knew she could call him.  Sometimes, we don’t know when to say enough. 

On the other hand, most people think, “this won’t happen to me” which will always be a person hardest downfall or “that person seems too nice, or that person looks harmless, yada yada.”

You said it.  Who knows, maybe the criminals don’t read these blogs, or they do, and learn from their own mistakes and not others.  But, Dakota Valkyrie hit it on the nose when stated at end sentence “Don’t be a victim”. 

These stories should open our eyes to the world we live in.  We must chose wisely the actions we make and the people who we trust.  I know I learn everyday from these stories. 

I was in the same situation as the woman in the story.  I was a regular for a cab driver who was at least in his 50s and I was about 18 years old.  I stopped taking his cab rides and boy did I have a very rude awakening.  I knew he had a crush on me, but I never thought he would hurt me.  Thank god he didn’t, but he tried to.  He got really obsessed and when I decided to stop being his customer, that made him really upset.  he even tried to come to my house one day to ”take me away”.  He had such a sick look in his eyes.  He thought I was alone in the house and tried to force himself in (I used to live on the ground floor in a two family house) When I asked him to leave me alone.  But he got his ass kicked by my brother who happened to overhear my struggle with the guy.  Had I not heeded the warnings of my friends and family, who knows what whould have happened to me. 

So, these stories should definitely be an education tool on street smarts.

And we preach to the living – those that read something here and remember: Don’t be an asshat or Don’t be a victim
