Je-ni Cushondra Scott

CANCELED – Je-ni Cushondra Scott told her father that she managed to escape from a home on the south end of Grandville Street, and he picked her up near Warren and EvergreenEvergreen reviewsEvergreen reviews at about 11:50 a.m. today, Detroit Police Det. Sgt. James Graham said.

Detroit - An Amber Alert has been issued for 13-year-old Je-ni Cushondra Scott from Detroit. Her father states he dropped her off at a bus stop near Grand River Ave. and Greenfield Rd. at 7:30 a.m. Monday. He later received a text message from her in which she texted she was locked in a basement of a house on Grandville Road. He then received nine text messages from her in a two hour time span that included her texting that her battery was dying.

Anyone with information should call Detroit Police at 313-596-5640 or 911 immediately. She was last seen wearing an Academy of Westland uniform yellow shirt and a brown and white plaid skirt with blue jeans underneath. Of course, there are already people speculating, including the possibility that the teen is lying to get out of some sort of trouble. Others are pissed that the name of the road the house is supposedly located was reported by the press. Either way, if she is locked in a basement or not, this girl is in some trouble and needs to be located.

I hope that text will be sufficient probable cause to search every basement on that road.

If this is a hoax, she should be held accountable- to the fullest extent.

HOPEFULLY, she is OK, and will be found- one way or the other- soon!

No matter what the true issue (playing hookey or the more horrific options)
Her parents and loved ones have to be suffering. I pray she is found safe and whole, physically and mentally.
My prayers are with the family and loved ones as well.

I have this weird feeling that she is telling the truth, 9 texts and the last one saying her battery is dying.  Sounds to me like she is scared and losing her “life line”.  I hope they find her soon.  But like granny g says even if she is playing around her parents are scarred and I hope it ends soon….in a good way.

I’m not doubting the story, but I do question why someone would abduct a girl, lock her in the basement, yet never check to see if she had a cell phone. Granted, it could be an idiot abductor, but just the first thing that popped into my head.

This would be one HELL of a hoax. Not that similar things haven’t happened before, but this girl isn’t some little kid who doesn’t understand the gravity of such a thing.

That, and it’s been over 24 hours now, right? That’s a bit long to hold out for a hoax.

Damn… dad’s interview was breakin’ my heart!  On the one hand, I hope this isn’t a prank because that some serious pain to put your family through for either fun or to get out of something ——
On the other hand, I hope it is a prank cuz I hate the thought of this young girl being locked in a basement, alone, scared and hoping and praying for rescue all this time — or worse.

Gonna follow this one closely.  I pray she’s safe and home soon!!  Prayers for the family!

I don’t know, Morbid – cell phones have gotten pretty small. It’s possible she had it in her hand or something at the time of the abduction and was able to stash it somewhere?

Of course, what I’m reminded of is the last story that comes to mind involving a missing person sending texts. That lady who went jogging or something and supposedly sent her husband a text, only to find out that her husband had killed her and was sending the texts himself to throw the trail?

I find it hard to believe that, in Detriot, she’s the only kid at the bus stop. Anyone know what kind of neighborhood Grand River Ave. and Greenfield Rd are in? At 7:30am, even my neighborhood, full of rich retired folks, is crackin’. Someone should have seen something, given dad’s version of events.

I hope I’m wrong, but the father in the video is lying his ass off. My first reaction was that he is responsible for her being missing.

Something’s not right here. I would not be surprised if dad is involved, we’ve seen it before. Even so she’s missing. I hope it is an elaborate hoax, but I’m not getting that feeling. I hope she is found soon.

A 13-year-old girl who police said was abducted Monday was found OK Tuesday morning on Detroit’s west side, police said.

Je-ni Cushondra Scott sent her father text messages hours after she went missing Monday saying she was locked inside a basement on Grandville Road in Detroit.

Police said they found the girl in that area, but they have not released any specific details about her abduction.

James Scott, her father, told police he dropped her off at a bus stop near Grand River Avenue and Greenfield Road. at 7:30 a.m. Monday. Investigators said she immediately left that location.

Around 4:20 p.m. Monday, her father began receiving text messages from the girl. She sent nine in two hours, and then the last message she sent said her battery was dying.

“I’m just hoping somebody will let my baby go and come home to her family,” Scott had told Local 4.

The girl has been reunited with her family.

    Stupid cops!

They SHOULD HAVE SAID NOTHING TO ANYONE  and then searched and interviewed everyone, every car and every home in that area!
By putting this on the news it gives the abductor a tip he’s/she’s  on to and gives him time to hide the girl .
    Where are people’s brains?
Where’s dad’s brains? he should have asked her what kind/color of car the abductor had. Then the police could have searched for cars in that area with that description and found the house.
This type of info should have been kept on the DL for OBVIOUS REASONS.
Or they could have put it on the news but acted like they have “no idea whatsoever” where the girl is and make no mention of the cell texts so the abductor will be relieved and get “sloppy”. Now abductor knows she has a cell and will take it from her and will probably move her too.
    STUPID STUPID STUPID!

I agree with a poster above.
Dad’s interview and plea seemed a little off to me too.
Not sure if he is involved but it does seem a  little hokey to me

You know, I hate these stories and love them all at the same time.

On one hand, they lend suspicion to other, legit situations.

On the other hand, they remind us of a very important fact – kids DO lie, sometimes.

I’ve heard many statement made about the fact that children should always been taken at their word, and I diagree wholeheartedly. We should always treat the situation as though they’re telling the truth, but proper scrutiny should definitely be applied.

So, the question now is, what should be done about it? Should the parents be allowed to handle discipline privately, or should this be treated like any other false report?

I’m wondering if she went willingly – at first – but then found herself in over her head pretty quickly.  Perhaps she thought this was gonna be a fun day of playing hooky – but once she was at her destination, surrounded by older boys who didn’t want to “play nice”, she regretted her decision.
There is definitely something “hinky” here.  She isn’t all that credible in her telling of the ordeal.  If she is LOCKED in a basement – how does she know her “abductors” are asleep?
Things that make you go Hmmmm…….

What bothered me most was that
    1.  She couldn’t pinpoint her exact location when she disappeared
    2.  She wasn’t sure how many “abductors” there were
    3.  She was supposedly “locked” in the basement, yet knew when her “abductors” fell asleep
    4.  She was conveniently found today – did her “abductors” not sleep yesterday or last nite?
    5.  When she “escapes” she calls her BROTHER – not her FATHER – not the POLICE.

That’s a good start – enough to tell me this isn’t the real story.

Sounds like her family is not so all believing either:

(Versie Simpson, grandmother of Je-Ni Cushondra Scott) said Je-Ni had run away from home in the past.

“I think what might have happened was, she knew one of the boys and went to his house, but once she got over there, things changed,” Simpson said. “But that’s just a guess; right now, we’re not sure exactly what happened.”

She’s been found and here’s a little bit of the story I found.

“The girl and her father were still being questioned by police Tuesday afternoon, said Versie Simpson, grandmother of Je-Ni Cushondra Scott, who was reported abducted from a west-side bus stop Monday while on her way to school.
Je-Ni told police that six males, in their teens or older, forced her to go with them to a home near Greenfield and then locked her in the basement.

According to the story she told police, she was able to escape the home when the suspects went to sleep. Once freed, she called her big brother for help.
“She’s still down at the police station with her father being questioned,” Simpson said. “We’re all still trying to figure this out; I’m just thankful she’s safe. We spent all day yesterday worried sick.”
Simpson said Je-Ni had run away from home in the past.
“I think what might have happened was, she knew one of the boys and went to his house, but once she got over there, things changed,” Simpson said. “But that’s just a guess; right now, we’re not sure exactly what happened.”"

Folks, that’s not racist, that is how these kids are raised.  They see how their families do it and follow suit.  A lot of areas, people move so frequently from one relative’s house or rental or project to another, so the parent will drop them at the nearest city bus stop to go to the school they were not supposed to be at anymore.  Some systems have “City Schools” that you pay to have your kid in, then it is your responsibility to get them there.

    Jen,
You are right.  Children are a product of their environment.   That should be embroidered on a pillow somewhere as much as I preach it.  But it is true.  My grown son sometimes has a really shitty fucking potty mouth.  Wonder where he gets that from?  On the other hand, both of my children have won awards in elementary school for ”Most Compassionate”.  I take blame and credit for them both.  But they both are polite, friendly, smart, sharing and fun.  And they didn’t learn it from our dogs…
I understand exactly what you are saying.
