In an interview with our media partner, The News Herald, James Burns supposedly admitted chaining the kids together, but only for short periods of times on two occasions.

Yeah I like how that never happened to well maybe once or twice for a minute or two…when the reality is far different and EVERYONE knows that he is minimizing the truth. “It’s unbelievable how somebody can do that to some kids,” Henisman said.

“These children were locked up in a small place where they could not move and they were chained. That’s not something we have seen before. Probably the worst case of false imprisonment we’ve seen here I know that I’ve seen personally,” Pitts said.

The paper also quotes burns as saying this was not abuse, “just enough to make them feel it, not enough to break their spirit or try to destroy them.”

“They reported to a teacher that their sister was being kept chained in a closet,” says Lt. Mitch Pitts of the Bay County Sheriff’s Office. “We located the girl… she was not chained at that time spoke to her… she confirmed that she had been kept chained in the closet.”

“She hadn’t been at school,” says 16-year-old neighbor Melissa Burke. “I thought she was sick or something.”

Melissa Burke and her mother Carla Parker live next door to James and Tinnea Burns. Burke attends Mosley High School where two of the boys went to find help.

Parker says one of the children had confided in her daughter. “I wish she had come to me sooner and told me some of the things that

had told her instead of waiting until yesterday to tell me, I just… it’s horrible.”

“They were allowed to go outside for one hour…during that time they were chained to the back porch,” Lt. Pitts says, “The house was also surrounded by pit bulls, so someone couldn’t just walk back in the back where the children were kept.”

Pitts says the girl stated that her uncle placed a dog chain around her neck and told her to get on all fours. “That she was a dog, and since dogs couldn’t speak she wasn’t allowed to speak to any family member,” he says.

“If I would have known, I would have helped her,” Burke says. “I would have helped all of them.”

It is starting to look like some other family members might have known about the abuse. Tabbi? Did you know and now to save your neck you are helping to deny?

11 y/os walking around showing they have been branded by a homemade tattoo are not bragging- they are telling people something horrible has happened to them and asking for help. The kids wanted those tattoo’s, there are NO chain’s in any of the closet’s I’ve been over there.

I’m sure a lot of us wanted tattoos when we were eleven. Thank god we had responsible adults in our life to not give or get us one.
