Robert Daniel Webb

Ellensburg, WashingtonHave you seen this guy? If you do, please do me a favor and give him a good bitch-slap…then call the cops. Robert Daniel Webb, 42, is wanted for armed robbery in Washington. On Tuesday, he robbed an AM/PM mini-mart of about $200. That isn’t what landed him here at the Dreamin’ Demon. He’s here because he had his 9-year-old daughter with him.

At about 3:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, Webb entered the store with his daughter, Meadow. He approached the counter, whipped out a gun, and demanded money. Eric Owens, the AM/PM clerk, said he could see the girl looking confused and frightened. Meanwhile, Webb is going on about how he was fired from his job and his daughter needed medical care. ‘His eyes were tearing up. This guy’s hurting inside,’ said Owens. Owens complied with Webb’s demands and handed the money over. Webb and his daughter left the store without further incident.

Webb is described as 6-foot-2, 245 pounds, brown eyes and brown hair. He was driving a 2008 Silver Toyota Corolla license plate 602-XQG. Meadow, is 3 feet, 8 inches tall and weighs 50 pounds. She has shoulder-length dark hair and was wearing a pink coat in the robbery video. Although authorities do not believe Webb is a direct threat to his daughter, they are concerned that his actions may place her in danger. They were last seen in Yakima around 5:30 Wednesday evening. Webb’s wife is cooperating with the investigation.

Eric Owens says his empathy only goes so far. ‘I’ve been homeless. My son and I have lived on the streets in Seattle. I know what hard is, but resorting to crime is not the solution.’ I second that.

Anyone with information on Webb or the robbery is asked to please call the Kittias County Sheriff’s Office at 509-925-8534.

OK Demonites! Wish me luck! I'm going to walk right up to him and bitch slap him, and perform a citizens arrest! I just hope that Tech-9 Machine gun of his doesn't get in the way! I'll have to grab it right out of his hands and use it on him!

To involve your poor daughter, My god she looks scared and frightened to no end, what a piece of fucking shit
I hope they find him and take away his daughter also, let angels watch over her and keep her safe until they find him
    please don;t hurt your child

    piece of shit

    I Third that opinion.

The news has been reporting that there are more crimes being committed by people who, until now, were otherwise law abiding citizens. The economy has taken it's toll on them, and they turned to crime when they didn't know where else to turn.

I think it's in part, due to a society that thinks things should always be easily handed to them, and when it's not, they just don't know what else to do.

I hope his daughter is safely found, and gets the medical care she needs. Hopefully Dad will realize, that while it might be the easy way out, crime does not pay.

hmm i am missing something here, why does he have his daughter out at 3:00 am?
why doesnt momma know where they are?
is there an amber alert out yet if daddy has her gone for 2 days?
and why does he have a mugshot? nother crime?
momma knows more than whats she sayin i betcha

  • and why does he have a mugshot? nother crime?

I don't think that's a mugshot...I think it's his drivers license picture. Webb has no criminal history.

I agree, and it's only the tip of the iceberg of what's yet to come. Something needs to happen and NOW...It boils down to greedy fuckers never having enough bonuses, Natural Disasters, that has insurance companies reaping in premiums, driving up mortgages, A War....IMO (we shouldn't' be rebuilding their country, making their lives better) ...anyhow it's being paid at the gas pumps....

America has had enough, I see this guy as a Robin Hood type....He didn't want to to be a thief....He has probably been shit on ....everywhere he's turned.....
  • It's not just the cost of everything going up, its also the fact that people are losing jobs everyday. They have more going out, less coming in, maybe they were living high on the hog with credit cards, loans and mortgages that they now can't pay. They are getting desperate, instead of losing everything to the bank, they risk everything by going against the law.

I'm thinking of making a thread about this in three things, seeing what people have to say.

Funny, I think it would be a sign of a society's safety nets failing.

Ok, he's desperate, I get that, but leave the little girl out of it. If the clerk had been some stupid yahoo hell bent on not turning over any cash, that little girl could have been caught in the crossfire. How stupid is he really?
Some of us carry firearms to PROTECT the one we love, not to act like "Stupidos" and put them in harms way. WTF.
  • CassieMomma
Maybe he should sell his 2008 Corolla, that would be a little bit safer than robbing a store with his daughter! Dumb ass. I have no sympathy, we are all going through hard times, but that doesn't give us the right to act with no morals.

Maybe that's why he took his daughter. Could be that he's seen those reality shows my husband loves where the clerk fights back, and the would be thief gets his ass whooped and he figured the clerk would be less likely to fight back, or open fire if he had a child with him.

Maybe, he just didn't have a babysitter.

On another note - Is that just the coolest and calmest victim you've ever seen at gunpoint? Fucker just relaxin' against the counter while a gun is pointed at him. Dayum. Wonder if he's been through this before? Or is it just he felt a lot less threatened by a man who brought his 9 yr. old daughter with him? Kudos on calmness, dude! lol

Also, I agree - our governments wasteful spending, corporate ass kissing and taxing out the ass of the lower and middle classes, not to mention poor management of everything they touch - has driven people to the edge. Unfortunately, it's driven some over that edge. It doesn't excuse it or make it less wrong... but it certainly makes it a bit more understandable. When our government can spend billions upon billions for a winless war and corporate bailouts - but shits on its citizens day after day, week after week - somethings gotta give. I think we're gonna see more and more normally law abiding citizens going to desperate lengths to take care of things. Just the other day, a man killed 5 members of his family and himself and seriously wounded his wife (shot her multiple times) because he was facing financial ruin. If the economy doesn't pick back up - I think we're gonna see more and more stories like both of those soon.
  • I have to go, but could someone start a discussion on this in the forums? I'd love to see what more people have to say. I don't have time at the moment, I'll join in when I do though.
  • Special2bme
No resorting to crime is definitely not the answer and ESPECIALLY in front of your daughter. He isn't the only person out there that has lost his job and they aren't resorting to crime. They are out there walking the streets looking for a job, looking through the paper, etc. except for anything illegal. What a fucking dumbass!

This is the part where you sale your 2008 vehicle and get something older (yet dependable), or take the bus. You downsize your home, maybe rent a small apartment (maybe have to stay with family for awhile). You might have to let your credit go bad not paying credit cards, etc. (but I'd rather have bad credit than a rap sheet). Go places and ask for help, there are many places out there. Maybe try getting state help until you get on your feet, especially if the child needs medical help with something that is a constant in her life. The right steps can be taken to get your life back on track...it just takes a lot of sacrifice at first, but I agree that ignoring the law is not the way to go. It can be tough but it can be done to get through these hard times. It's very sad to see all these people snapping like this, breaking the law and committing murder and suicide because of losing jobs, when other things can be done.

yea I don't want to see executives holding up wall paper stores and stealing furniture to redecorate their offices. That would be really sad.

I don't think folks who are do armed robbery pay attention to piddly little things like bed time.

LOL I hadn't noticed that. I was so busy looking at the horror on the girls face. If I had been the clerk I would have pointed out that if he shot me in front of his kid, he would need MORE money for mental health care for his daughter... what with that added trauma and all.

Unless she's also an idiot, she must be going out of her mind right about now. I know if this assclown had my daughter and was desperate I would be. He should just turn himself in or at least leave his daughter somewhere safe. I'm sure a sympathetic judge will go easy on him.
  • Funny, I think it would be a sign of a society’s safety nets failing.

What safety net? Americans have been living without one because they dismantled it themselves and stuck in in the shed. Living in house bigger than what they needed (and should have never been put in to begin with), one extra car than they needed, more clothes than they needed, more cable channels, cell phone family plans with unlimited texting, multiple video game systems and DVD's and take out meals...

Most of which they never could have afforded anyway, as it is all some form of debt they will pay off until they die. I LOVED the high gas prices...it showed people they wont die taking public transportation. This economic downturn will have similar effects on people, teaching them to be more financially responsible - to plan for emergency's and realize they don't need half the shit they are paying monthly for.

Of course, only until things get back to normal and everyone resorts back to their old ways again. :P

But this idiot here could have SOLD THE GUN HE WAS USING and made more money than what he got out of that register. He is an absolute selfish moron and just another part of the problem of people that just got to have what they want now, now, now. BAH!

I thought I saw a report that stated the gun was likely a fake. Details, details :)

"Beaty says the night clerk thought the gun was a phony and told the robber that."

    http://www.komonews.com/news/local/42198517.html

The same article made a good point though:

"I don't think I've ever heard of a little girl with her dad on an armed robbery," Myers said. "How anyone could endanger a child like that? You never know how someone is going to react when you pull a firearm out. How the clerk's going to react, somebody walking in? Absolutely can't even imagine it."

As for the rest of your post, right on!

Beggars sometimes bring their kids along to elicit sympathy. Sounds to me like this poor excuse for a father was a bit confused about what he was actually in the store to do. Or maybe it is the start of a new trend and we shall see more people pan-handling with a gun in their hand in future?

At least my mother kept me and my sister safe and warm wrapped in our blankets in the back seat of her car on the cold nights she and her boyfriend robbed houses. My mom loved me!!

There was an update done today. The daughter was found in California when the dad went to visit a friend. The dad appeared drunk so the friend called the police completely unaware of the crime he had just committed. He drove away in the same car used in the robbery and the girl was left with the friend. Her mom is making arrangements to pick her up.

FORTUNA, Calif. -- A 9-year-old girl whose father brought her along as he robbed a Washington convenience store at gunpoint has been found safe in California, authorities said.

Fortuna Police Lt. Bill Dobberstein says Robert Daniel Webb stopped at the home of an acquaintance in Fortuna on Wednesday night with his daughter. The man apparently did not know that Webb had been involved in the robbery, officials said.

The friend said he called police because Webb appeared to be driving drunk.

Webb later drove away without the girl.

Investigators say Webb was caught on a store security video pulling a gun on a clerk at the Ellensburg AM-PM while his daughter Meadow watched. He got away with about $200.

Dobberstein says the girl is okay and is waiting for her mother to pick her up.

Webb was believed to be traveling in a 2008 silver Toyota Corolla with Washington license number 602-XQG.

I know it's easy to judge people when they do horrible things, and I hope that no one will think I am condoning this in any way shape or form, but....I know this man. I went to college with him and at one point he stayed with my husband and I while trying to find work.
I am completely shocked and incredibly saddened by his actions. I can only imagine his absolute desperation as a reason for doing this. The one thing I know for sure is that he loves his daughter. I know many of you will say that if he loved her he wouldn't put her in this situation, but desperation and love can go together.

Okay, now to be fair, I don't think this guy is related to what people turn to while desperate in down economy - because taking your daughter to an armed robbery is just never ever conscionable. Ever. Ever! Blows my mind that someone would do it - broke is not tha answer there unless we're talking about his deeper personality.

But when I talk about failed social safety nets, I'm not talking about personal savings - that's a *personal* safety net. I'm taking about gov't aid (which I think is important in encouraging entrepreneurial risk taking in a capitalist society,) sure, but I'm also talking about stable, cohesive communities and networks of geographically close extended family - or supportive immigrant networks for those who've left extended family supports behind. For a long time we *have* been throwing those away. I think when times are so flush for so long we forget what the hell people maintained extended family for in the first place, you know, because they're a pain in the ass to live with, lol.

I also don't think it's fair to characterize the hypothetical group of previously law abiding citizens who are turning to criminal enterprise in desperation we're talking about in that McMansion, conspicuous consumption way. I suspect the people we're talking about are working class folks trying to raise families who've lost the manufacturing jobs on which they've depended with no new ones on the horizon. That lends to the desperation. No, everyone can't be a college graduate, but everyone can't be a plumber or car mechanic either.

And in which decade do you live? Because where I am, lower income folks keep a cell phone rather than a land line since it's cheaper in many cases if you're paying long distance calling charges regularly, and it moves with you when your housing in instable. It's not anymore luxury than... having a phone is. And 2 cars? Well, given our suburban lifestyle, that becomes less luxury and more working necessity. Now we can argue why the suburban lifestyle isn't sustainable, but then we'd also have to talk about why anyone who manged the cash to do so fled the urban centers once upon a time. Near where I live there's been a bit of urban renewal though- which is pushing the poverty and crime laden centers somewhat more into the burbs. I'm not sure that's improving anything.

I do appreciate the Puritanical delight you're taking in the current economic enviornment though, lol. It'll teach us all austerity, dammit! :D

They only go this direction when you add the drunkeness.
  • I have a feeling, that the next update we hear from him, will be that he turned the gun (if it was real) on himself.

He was already in a desperate situation, where he let himself take stupid chances and make stupid choices. He saw no other way out then, and he's likely to see no other way out now that on top of all the problems he already had, he's only compounded them. Most likely, he was driving around drunk thinking "What am I going to do now"

I won't be one bit surprised if his story ends this way.
  • Zibarro

And if it's fake - it'll probably be "Suicide by Cop"

For his daughters' mental health sake - I hope he just turns himself in. She does NOT need to go thru any more trauma than he's already caused her.

Hell of a way to play "take your daughter to work" day.

I totally agree with you, Castille. I see what Morbid's saying, I really do, and I'm sure that is the problem many people have (I actually know some people like this, that just HAD to have the big ass house and 3 cars). But not everyone who is in dire financial straits right now is in that situation due to their own irresponsible, conspicuous consumption. I won't go on because you already gave some good, instructive examples.

I do think that despite the fact that Morbid's point is valid at least in many cases, the "it's all the consumers' fault" thing has been pushed by venal jackasses like the entire stable of financial "experts" on CNBC. See "Rick Santelli" especially.

I just read in the news today that Mr. Webb had dropped his daughter off at a friend's house right after the robbery; his friend was unaware that he had just robbed a store. Webb's friend told police that he was sure Webb had been drinking, so he agreed to keep the little girl. I don't remember who called the cops, but the little girl is safe.
