‘I Murdered Him’

Vincent Williams
Camden, New Jersey–Vincent Williams is dense. In December, 2007, Williams beat his girlfriend’s son, Jamar Cruz, with a belt. He was arrested, charged with assault, sentenced to three years probation, and ordered to take anger management and counseling classes. A lot of good that did. Williams continued to abuse Jamar; he abused him to death.
I guess the slap on the wrist and the $200 fine Williams received for the assault charge didn’t learn him any. It is reported that Jamar was beaten by Williams on at least 20 separate occasions in the past year. Around 7:00 a.m. Monday morning, left alone with the child, Williams assaulted him for the last time. He spent the morning repeatedly punching and kicking the child because he had wet himself. When Jamar complained about being in pain, and despite the obvious injuries to his body, he was ignored.
Jamar’s mother, Omayra Cruz, finally sought help at 7:10 Tuesday morning, after she was unable to wake her child. It was too late…Jamar died at 7:35 a.m. that same morning. An autopsy revealed Jamar died of blunt force trauma to the torso.
Vincent Williams, 26, was captured about 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, after a high-speed chase that led from MagnoliaMagnolia reviews
to Bordentown. At his arraignment Wednesday morning, Williams admitted to delivering the blows that killed Jamar. ‘I murdered him.’ Yep, you sure did tough guy. Williams admitted to taking careful steps to conceal the abuse he inflicted upon Jamar. He told investigators he punched and kicked Jamar in areas where bruises would be less visible, such as the chest and stomach. He admitted to keeping the child away from anyone who could help him, making up lies an excuses so Jamar couldn’t see his grandparents. He admitted to sending the child’s mother out of the home with the sole purpose of being alone with Jamar so he could hit him. He is being held on $1 million bail. He has two convictions for drug offenses and was imprisoned for about five months in 2004.
And the 2008 assault conviction? DYFS met with the family on occasion and ordered Williams and his girlfriend to attend parenting classes. DYFS closed the file on the child’s family four months before his death. The household had been deemed ’safe.’ DYFS officials say they will conduct an internal investigation of the case. After Jamar’s death, a 1-year-old boy was removed from Omayra Cruz’s home and placed in foster care. It is unknown if that child was abused as well.
What I want to know is why the hell isn’t mom sitting behind bars? I sincerely hope that I will get the opportunity to add her mugshot to this story.
RIP Jamar. Sorry your life was brought to a close by your mother’s ex-convict, child abusing boyfriend. You deserved better.
