St. Petersburg, FL–Christopher Mauro, 29, has a disorder. It’s called ’selective and convenient amnesia.’ When authorities asked him about his sexual contact with an 8-year-old girl, the amnesia conveniently struck. ‘I cannot recall and I do not remember.’ Bummer. No worries though, Christopher…you filmed it all. I’m sure the prosecutor will have no problem refreshing your memory.
Mauro was a friend of the victim’s family and was babysitting the girl for a few days. According to arrest affidavits, Mauro filmed himself touching the child’s chest as she stood naked in a bathtub. He took pictures of the child sleeping. In one incident, he was fondling the child while she slept–she woke up and caught him in the act. Mauro pretended like he just woke up too, and told the girl, ‘I was having a dream about my girlfriend.’
The investigation began when a female roommate discovered explicit pictures of the young girl on Mauro’s computer. He was with the child at a park when authorities caught up with him on Wednesday. He was arrested without incident.
Cops served a search warrant on the home and found the pictures and videos in question, as well as a collection of erotic images that may include other children. Investigators said it’s not clear if any of those photos were taken by Mauro.
Christopher Mauro was initially charged with one count of lewd and lascivious molestation and two counts of promoting the sexual performance of a child. Then, authorities searched his computer. On Thursday, Mauro was slapped with eight more felonies, including sexual battery of a child and lewd molestation on a child. Now, he sits in Pinellas County Jail in lieu of $130,000 bail. The investigation is continuing, and more state and federal charges could be filed.

Can we be a little more SELECTIVE in our choices for babysitter?!
Honestly, I guess one reason I was always so haggard and tired when my babies were babies is because I trusted NO ONE other than my immediate family to watch my children.
When I am in the nursing home, I’ll catch up on my rest then!

I def. would not leave my children with someone like him. And again I will say.. you think you know someone… but you never REALLY do. Parents need to be more selective. I know its hard to feel like you cant even trust your best friend… but think about the intrest of your child.

Christopher Mauro, the Lakeland man arrested early Thursday morning in St. Petersburg for allegedly video taping himself fondling a nude 8-year-old girl faces more charges filed by the Lakeland Police Department. In addition to the charges Mauro, 29, faces from the original arrest, he now is charged with three counts of sexual battery on a child under 12, two counts of molestation on a child under 12 and three counts of battery of a child expelling fluids.
The child belonged to an acquaintance of Mauro’s from Largo. .

I happen to know the family very well and can assure you that there is no neglect.The bastard was a trusted friend of the whole family for nearly 20 years and she always called him her uncle.There was no way I or anyone else would have ever known or she would have never spent time with him to begin with.You’d think you’d know someone after 20 years. Friends since middle school. I tell you she adores her children and has always been a very good and attentive mother.I know Chris.He has always been well put together,educated,smart,funny,…etc…but I never in a milion years would have seen this coming.Never.

well, thanks to the “female roommate” anyway – we’ve seen other adults look the other way when they see horrific abuse, so even though it’s merely decent, i guess she gets credit for being… decent.

Not to toot my own horn, but I’ve offered to keep kids for free when a mother was in a tough situation. I had only one son of my own at the time. Why? I believe in the Golden Rule. I’m old now and live too far away to help anyone now, but I’m a grandmother these days and enjoy little kids around… just being little kids. We good folk should help out when we can; unfortunately, you really can’t /shouldn’t trust anyone these days.

I understand trusting friends. I have trusted friends to take care of my children (when they were younger) and vice versa. That being said, the friends I trusted were also mothers themselves and their own children looked neither abused nor neglected. Only my very best friend or family members have ever kept my children overnight. And I would NEVER, NEVER send my children off with a single male — especially overnight! — no matter how much I trusted him. Especially one like DJ Chris. YUCK!

The story is, he was in the process of returning the child to her parents when the roommate called police. After they found the pictures in question, they began searching for him and found him at the park with the kid.

You are all correct, do not leave your children with just anybody, but the problem with this situation and why this one is so unique is we have known this man over twenty years. We know his entire family and he knows our entire family. Holidays were spent together. Etc. Also, he was not babysitting he taken this girl to disney world with his family as a get together for his sisters birthday. If you cannot you trust someone after twenty years which we thought was the case than everyone IMOP is nol n void including family. This man was her uncle and that is all she knew, but now he is an animal behind bars. Unfortunately due to the nature of this crime only so much can be released and the rest is made up. I always had faith in the media and news but being in it now shows me things are put out their until the facts are given. Mauro your amnesia will not hold up in the court of law. The mother, well the family of the little girl are normal full time working parents mother in school for RN as well two kids. Normal hectic life. Mauro was not found with the little girl as for she was at school as well as her baby sister. he was found at the largo home with the parents

Knowing the monster personally, there are only 3 people I truely feel horribly for. Chris’ father, whom lost his wife to a long battle with cancer only days before.
The child, whom will be forever scared by the man she saw as a family member. He was her godfather.
Lastly, the father who was not only broadsided once by his might-as-well be lifelong friend with this heinous crime against the one person in the world he would protect over all others but also by the fact that his wife, mother of his children, had once taken a break to have a trist with Chris during some marital battles.
Chris has openly admitted to still being in love with the mother, but when she did not return the affection, this is what we find.
Is it possible that our dear Chris was so broken up over losing the love of his life that he settled for the daughter instead? Or has he always had a fascination with little girls whom he felt he could have control over?
If ever he needed preperation H, god let it be now!
