Albequerque, NM – If someone stepped up and raised your children for you while you were serving time in prison, how would you thank them? Would you drive drunk again and slam into them head-on, killing them? Me, neither. But that’s how Beverly Chacon, 40, repaid long-time family friend Brenda Melton for years of kindness.
On March 4, Beverly Chacon drank 3/5 of a bottle of Southern Comfort, and got behind the wheel of her car. She drove the wrong way down a one-way street, and careered head-on into Brenda Melton’s vehicle, then fled the scene. A quick-thinking witness followed her vehicle and notified police of her whereabouts. Beverly was taken into custody; Brenda died the next day.
What makes the story incredible is that Brenda Melton, 37, helped to raise Beverly Chacon’s 3 children while her drunk ass was in and out of prison over the years. Brenda and her life partner, Carmen Salas, took care of one of Beverly son’s, now 21, for over 12 years. That’s some serious friendship, and just goes to show you that no good deed goes unpunished.
Brenda was well-loved in the community and an active volunteer for a variety of organizations, including the humane society and Mothers Against Drunk Driving. If that’s not irony rearing its ugly head, I don’t know what is. Even in death, Brenda is helping people: as an organ donor, her organs were harvested and went to three different individuals, that they might live.
For her part, Beverly Chacon remembers being in a crash, but is fuzzy on the details. Can’t imagine why. If I drank 3/5 of a bottle of Southern Comfort — that’s the equivalent of 15 1-ounce shots, folks — I’d be chatting with little purple men and declaring myself queen of JupiterJupiter reviews

Beverly Chacon has been charged with DWI (she’s had at least four previous DWI charges), leaving the scene of an accident, and vehicular homicide. When the judge set her bail at $500,000 she pleaded with him to reduce it to something affordable. Heh. Fat chance. She remains behind bars, where she’ll hopefully remain for a long, long time.
But, drunken sleazeball aside, let’s remember Brenda Melton for the kindhearted woman that she was. And may she rest in peace.

Yes, indeed. She was a real friend and a the real mother to those children. She leaves behind children who now have no mother of any sort and Brenda’s family and friends who are devastated. I’d like to hear what they are going to say about this one during Sunday service…it should probably start with “no good deed goes unpunished….” yeah, that sounds like the ticket. Nothing that can be said can explain away this one…nothing.
Rest in peace Brenda Melton. You were a dear friend and a mother to children who I know will miss and mourn you.

My heart goes out to Brenda’s partner family and friends. And those children. She was more of a mother then that cunt that gave birth to them. And why the fuck is she trying to get her bail reduced? You KILLED someone bitch. You killed a friend who took care of your kids and was a very kind woman. Selfish cunt.

To Most Defitnelty pay respect for such a OUTSTANDING women Brenda Melton, may you rest in peace and not knowing you but reading about you , you sure did your part of being a true human being with a BIG HEART, Sorry your life was robbed away from you and sorry for your whole family my prayers go out to you all. Also for Beverly, obviously she has a major major major drinking problem and she should not be able to get out of jail again

Are we sure Beverly Chacon didn’t resent the fact that Brenda Melton was more of a mother to those kids than she herself? It is the most amazing coincidence if this was really purely accidental, the sort of coincidence you could never use in fiction unless you want to write what they call magical realism and not be taken seriously by the reviewers.
My heart bleeds for Brenda’s partner, her relatives and friends and the poor children of this pathetic repeat offender. Lock Chacon up and throw away the key. She is never going to be safe to have driving anywhere.

Abroad, as far as police and everyone else has stated, Beverly Chacon would have killed someone that night due to her drunken ass. It just happened to be a cruel irony that it was the person who had cared for her kids while she was in prison

My heart goes out to the family and friends of Brenda. My 19 year old cousin was killed in 1998 by a drunk driver so I know first hand how this can tear a family apart emotionally. Worse even is that the victim and perp seem to have been lifelong friends. I hope Beverly gets the time that she deserves. These people don’t learn from their mistakes.
May God be with the loved ones of Brenda.

what I find sad is that it seems that all the good work someone does for others for others in life is rewarded with heartache and tragedy.

Brenda your absolutely right she was a very selfless wonderful friend to have and did many things to help this so called worthless person that apparently was a friend. My heart aches that this happened to her and may she RIP.

Wow, this woman is a piece of work.
Brenda Melton did that cunt a favor by taking in her kids, Beverly Chacon didn’t even show a hint of kindness when she left the scene of the accident, leaving Melton to die.
I’m glad the judge didn’t show any Mercy for Chacon, she doesn’t deserve it.
