First, I know of Jeff Sollman as we both attended the same church for awhile. But, I didn't really know him...more of an acquiantance.

I've read some of the comments here and some of them are just hateful. Now, before the flames and daggers start coming my way, let me first and foremost state that I am not defending this individual's actions. Nor am I going to throw bible verses at any of you. It seems as soon as the bible is brought up, the comments deteriorate into garbage.

I'm not asking anyone to forgive Jeff. What is done is done. What we have to remember is that we *hopefully* live in a land of laws and when those laws are broken sufficient justice is served. If Jeff is imprisoned for the rest of his natural life, then that is justice enough. Nothing will bring this child back and wishing Jeff dead does nothing but satisfy the animal nature in all of us. Revenge is bittersweet.

The horror and knowledge of what Jeff did will haunt him the rest of his days. And, some might argue that this is punishment worse than death because death is the easy way out.

What I do pray for is that the child's family can eventually find peace in this. This isn't all about Jeff. There are many, many people affected by this and they too will have to live with the horror of this the rest of their days.

I guess some people will have something else to forgive ole Jeff for.

Imagine that a child murderer is into child porn. Who would have guessed it??

DECATUR, Ill. (AP) - A 38-year-old Decatur man charged in the death of his infant son now faces child pornography charges.
Jeffrey M. Sollman was arraigned Wednesday on five counts of child pornography. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 20.

Wonder if it was home made porn or just searching kiddie sites. Either way looks like Jeff was a sick puppy.

A couple things to consider:
The house where this happened is less than a half mile from Saint Mary’s Hospital Emergency room. Right accross the lake. You can see the hospital from the front door. If they went to the Lake Decatur Marina (I dont know if they did) they drove past the hospital to get there. Jeffery was and is a licensed First Responder through the Department of Public Health. He is trained to provide emergency medical care. He is a mandated reporter.
I forgive jeffery, wich is acctually between me and God, not me and jeffery, but that does not mean that i dont want to see justice served. It just means that I want God to handle this, as I know He will. God will forgive Jeffery also, if he askes. God will give grace where and when He wants too. He dosn’t ask us when to do that. Jeffery’s ultimate fate is between him and God. His imediate fate is up to the judge or jury. The Word tells us to forgive, but it doesn’t tell us to put murderers back on the street. May justice be served. May Caden rest in peace, and may the families forever affected by this horiffic act find peace. On May 11th, Jeffery Sollman was charged with 6 counts of possesion of child pornography.

his pre-trial is 5/12/2009 at 01:30 p.m.

hmm... & this is my former hometown. I think I may have to schedule a visit to the family around this time to watch this asshole squirm. OMG & it's in front of Judge White? *dies laughing* he's done. If Spence picks it up, as he is wont to do in cases of child abuse, he should get the time he deserves.

& he took Caden down to Lake Decatur because it would soothe him? He probably thought about throwing the poor thing in the Lake knowing no one would probably ever find him.

"You sure seem comfortable making assumptions you don’t really know about."

I just have to watch the news to find the same material posted in this site, except im not hearing the news reporters' personal opinions.

Im the one making assumptions??? You are implying that I am racist... And I used the word in collaboration of other degrading words like the ones found in this website. It has nothing to do with the issue of racism, dont bring other subjects up just to prolong this "debate". I apologize if it is misread, but the word IS offensive for ALL, like you said. It is used just as lightly as the ones used in this forum. It sounds like you keep up on every thing, so you probably know.

"If your heart is true, and you are capable of true forgiveness, I applaud you. So far, you have not convinced me either is true."

Dont you get it? I already FORGAVE my BIL. I am not forgiving him daily, nor living in it... Its done. Im not here to convince you. My self-esteem, nor my SLEEP is based on how good or bad I feel before I go to bed. Its when I wake up that I anticipate and hope to some how make this world a better place to live and raise a family. I dont plan on talking through the problems, I plan on WORKING through them. Some people come here for pleasure, some people for relief, some people like me who were just both directly, and then indirectly offended. I chose to read this forum first and after a few posts, noticed the consistency of disrespect, hate, and depravity.

I think its much easier to hate than it is to love... Try forgiving some one who killed your sister's 7 month old child, or maybe watch the mother hold her child as nurses and doctors constantly attend to a child who will never have another diaper changed, will never say "mommy", will never take his first steps... Picture that because I do every day, yet I still forgive. I am not a saint, I am a human being and I hope to lead by example, not through my conversation on sites like this. Good luck changing the world one forum at a time, freedom of speech is a right, not a convenience, use it respectably.

I have a hard time leaving conversations opened without a mutual agreement, but I see the number of people against my argument and Im not willing to "fight" it. Good luck all (instead of God Bless) and I hope every one knows that this site is susceptible to any one viewing it, including young children or family members who WILL be offended. When defending it, you represent it. And to me, it represents immaturity and disrespect.

While we’re on the metaphors, how about Matthew 25:40?

No. I'm not going there. Anything I could say in interpretation could only add to your misery and I refuse to do that.

I do think that at this time that this is not the right web site for you to be visiting.

My whole defense rests on the fact that little things lead to large incidents like this, and the little things involve the problems that every one here, including myself, ignore.

You sure seem comfortable making assumptions you don't really know about.

This site has in fact been an active participant in bringing more than one criminal to justice. I'll leave it to you to read and research it if you would like to know how. I don't expect you to do that since it is so much easier to just fling those baseless accusations around, or to somehow suggest we are part of "the problem".

This site and its members have come together to provide support and assistance, both financial and emotional, to countless family members and victims of the scumbags you read about here. I have no problems with the moral compass of this site.

I do agree that of all the people reading here, you may well have been in a position to prevent this senseless murder if you saw signs of his broken mind and ignored them.

Did you ignore signs of your brother -in-law's sickness? Did you "forgive" his minor transgressions that lead to this horror? Is the true motivation here absolution for yourself?

I suppose if I ever kill my child, I might need some reason to "feel better about myself".
If I ever turn my back on my brother-in-law, and he kills his kids, I might need a reason to "feel better about myself". Until then, I feel just fine about myself and what we do here at DD.

Ignoring the fact that these scumbags like your brother-in-law are in fact scumbags, simply allows then to scurry around in the dark like cockroaches. This site serves a purpose in that we turn the lights on and expose them for exactly what they are in a lot of cases.

Evil is like a cancer, ignore it and it will kill the host. We choose not to ignore the cancer.

Yes, we do vent our frustrations here. Sometimes we even get a bit carried away. It is very therapeutic. Give it a try, we won't judge you harshly.

There was a time when people had shame and feared exposure of their horrible actions. That time has passed and the world is still an evil place. It's high time some of that shame is re-introduced to the world.

There used to be a header on all these pages that quoted Albert Einstein. "The world is a dangerous place; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it". Albert had it right!
(note to Morbid, put it back!)

I like to think we are doing our small part to "do something about it". It may not be a lot in your eyes, but it seems to be working for us. Your approval is not required.

If your heart is true, and you are capable of true forgiveness, I applaud you. So far, you have not convinced me either is true.

On another subject, I think you exposed your prejudice when you typed "nigger" above. If that word has been used outside of one discussion in out forums, I've rarely ever seen it here. Last time, believe the poster was banned if I recall correctly.

If you look around, you'll see that skin color does not gain you a free pass here. Evil comes in all colors. We call people a lot of things, some quite creative, but it would be extremely rare to find a racial epitaph such as "nigger" on these pages. Maybe that heart of yours is not as pure as you would have us believe.

I'll sleep just fine tonight. You?

You sure seem comfortable making assumptions you don’t really know about.

This site has in fact been an active participant in bringing more than one criminal to justice. I’ll leave it to you to read and research it if you would like to know how. I don’t expect you to do that since it is so much easier to just fling those baseless accusations around, or to somehow suggest we are part of “the problem”.

Did you ignore signs of your brother -in-law’s sickness? Did you “forgive” his minor transgressions that lead to this horror? Is the true motivation here absolution for yourself?

I suppose if I ever kill my child, I might need some reason to “feel better about myself”.

The "spirit" of the "book" I base my ideals on is based on love. I love my family, I love my nephew, and I love my brother-in-law. Maybe its those who can't accept the fact that I have enough love in my heart to forgive a person who has killed an innocent child, a beautiful boy. My whole defense rests on the fact that little things lead to large incidents like this, and the little things involve the problems that every one here, including myself, ignore. Like the examples i've listed in my previous posts. Currently, one out of every 5 children are homeless. Maybe it was a blessing my nephew didnt have to grow up in a world where people call other people "cocksuckers", "niggers", "sickfuck", and all of the other degrading references I have read while visiting this site. I am not preaching, I'm offering suggestions to any who read this. To forgive is not to forget, and I will never forget the amazing impact Caden's life and death has made on my life. And it in part was because of Jeffrey. Saddened Caden was taken away, but blessed to have him even a short time.

So Harley, well said, very well said... Im glad you feel better about your own life because of the ability to freely comment on others downfalls. And by the way, caden was the 7th shaken baby syndrome case in 2 weeks at St. Francis Hospital in Peoria, IL. Its happening, and it will continue to happen with or without this site. If people are SHOWN LOVE, then it may change, or save a life. Are any of the people commenting in this forum working for the justice dept's terrorizing the child molestors, rapers, murdererers? If not, then why talk about it. If the justice system cant prevent these happenings, there is only one other way... Us.

And even if this was my pulpit, I wouldn't expect any one to listen. If people listened, we wouldnt have the problems for many of the reasons these forums are started. So the precedent must be set eventually, DONT HATE, through your words, through your actions, for any reason... It shouldnt be that hard.
