Yreka, CA–A parent’s worst nightmare became reality for Ryan Collins and his wife, April Smith. At around 4:30 Monday morning, the couple awoke to the sound of their 3-year-old daughter, Francis, screaming. They ran to the child’s room and found her bed empty. The sound of a car starting could be heard…Collins ran outside and saw a man pulling out of the driveway, with Francis in the back seat of his car.
That man was 22-year-old Kody Kaplon. The parents say Kaplon is a family acquaintance and they’ve known him for years. They said he was staying at their apartment after having an argument with his wife. They never believed he could do something like this. After all, he is a parent himself. An Amber Alert was issued.
Kaplon had seen the alert and at about 2:00 p.m Monday, he called Yreka police through the Amber Alert line and asked why they were looking for him. Authorities located him in Hornbook and arrested him on suspicion of kidnapping.
A short time later, in the same general area, a group of friends found Francis walking down a service road about 15 miles out of Yreka. She was wearing nothing but a soaked T-shirt. As they were driving her out, they ran across a California Highway Patrol officer and the child was handed over to him. The girl was taken to Fairchild Medical Center in Yreka for treatment. After the child was treated and interviewed, it was discovered that she had been molested.
Kody Kaplon is now charged with kidnapping, attempted murder, false imprisonment, taking or holding a child without right of custody, willful cruelty to a child, committing a sexual crime against a child, burglary, and violation of probation. He is currently being held in the Siskiyou County Jail on $1 million bail.
CHP says the car Kaplon was driving got stuck in the mountains. He left the little girl alone, to fend for herself. Had she not been found, chances are, she wouldn’t have made it through the night.

It will be interesting to see his explanation for why he did such a horrible thing. Sounds like he has some mental health issues. Or maybe he really is just an evil baby raping asshole.

What that little girl went through is something that would terrify, scar, and change for the worse a FULLY GROWN ADULT ~ kidnapped, raped, and then abandoned. And she was only THREE YEARS OLD. I can’t even IMAGINE what she went through and is still going through. That poor sweet girl. That FUCKING BASTARD. Castrate him and then lock him up for the rest of his life in a windowless cell with no contact with the outside world except for daily visits from the Big Bob until he does the world a favor and chews through his own wrists.

i’ve been thinking about this story since i read it yesterday, i found it very disturbing even before all of these details were out yet.
it is a miracle that girl lived, there were so many ways that this horrific experience could have become an even greater tragedy. it is amazing she was found so fast in remote dangerous conditions. and not least of all, that fucker’s car breaking down may have saved her life,without that who knows how this would have turned out.
this disgusting waste of life kody? as soon as i first heard about this, i knew he was evil. when he was just charged with kidnapping i had a bad feeling that everything that developed would just keep getting worse. this is the kind of psychopathic evil perverted monster that does nothing but harm.
$1 million dollar bail is not bad, he’s gone for a long time but he should never be released again. i don;t know what all those charges will get him in cali, but he should never be out in public again. it is amazing that this did not end even worse, and i cannot believe he wouldn’t try this again, life sentence, nothing less. at a minimum.
really, fuck this fucking monster. i would shoot this fucking pig myself, i’m sure there’s a long list of people who would be glad to. he needs to not be fucking living anymore.
i hope this fucker never touched his own kid, and i really hope they’re investigating that.

Indeed, so many people are worried about “stranger-danger”. That’s like being afraid of a wolf spider in your yard when there’s a giant bird-eating tarantula in your house. Sure, stranger-danger happens, and it’s ugly… but it’s NOT the primary threat – not by a long shot. Strangers only account for about 10% of child molestation and only 3% of child homicide. The majority of child molestation, about 60% of it, is committed by an acquaintence of the family. Someone you trust.

I feel a sense of relief since watching a documentary this past Monday on child murderes, pedos and the rest of the asshole clan that hurt kids. They were interviewing inmates that were in prison for this sort of crime. The HELL that these monsters go thru in prison is great!!! Yes, they have a bed, food, and a roof over their heads, all paid by us, the tax payers. But with all the abuse they endure in the penn, I am a wiling contributer to their stay.
A guy that had “accidentally” dropped his 3 month old and killed him, was taunted, raped repeatedly, and beaten. So I am hoping for the same treatment for this cowshit.
I read this story this morning and just could not comment at the time. I was scared shitless for this poor child. I envisioned her walking along that lonely road in her little t-shirt wandering about. It nearly tore my heart to pieces.
But now I all I want to do is tear this asshole into pieces. But good ole Bubba will be doing that for me.

It says at the end of the news clip that the child spent the night with the California Child Protective services while they investigated the suspected abuse…so she didn’t get to go home that night? Good Lord so after all of that she had to spend a night away from her parents with strangers??? I’m confused by that….

My guess is that they wanted to make sure the home was safe for her to return to. Not trying to blame the parents or anything, but the guy didn’t break in–they placed their daughter in harm’s way by letting him into their home willingly. The police probably want to double-check on their story that they didn’t know, and never thought he would do such a thing, as well as make sure that they understand that you really shouldn’t be letting losers (even the related ones) spend the night on your sofa when you have vulnerable children in the house so they don’t leave her vulnerable in the future. I doubt that spending the night with Child Services is going to be much of a trauma after what she’s already been through. Better to have her safe in protective custody for another night or two then risk sending her back to dangerously naive parents without checking them out thoroughly so that the same thing doesn’t happen again a month from now.
I’m sure the parents feel guilty and all, but come on–you just can’t be there for your pals in the same way once you have children. There are just too many cases of parents letting some loser’s sob story get to them, at the expense of their kids. Give him the money for a hotel room, send him to stay with your childless brother, let him spend the night in the garage and lock the door to the house from the inside, let his wife spend the night so he can sleep alone in their house…there are lots of things you can do to help out a buddy. But don’t invite him into your home with a vulnerable child in residence.

Ok, I’ve been reading these stories for months, as a guest and decided it was time to become a real demonite after reading this one. I don’t know if I’m PMS-ing or what but this story had me quietly sobbing in my little cubicle at work hoping nobody would happen by and ask me what was wrong. Maybe it’s because I have a 3yr old daughter….
This guy’s “right to live” card needs to serioulsy be revoked!!! He crossed that line and once someone has crossed that line, to me there’s no rehabilitation or treatment for these sick fucks…they should be exterminated for the vile vermin that they are. A philosophy student I knew once told me that that sentiment was very Hitler-esque of me but I don’t care. All who harm children should be completely exterminated from our world.

This story kills me. I am so, so, so glad that this little girl was found alive, and I can only pray that she’s little enough not to have much memory of this ordeal as she gets older. This has me in tears every time I think of it. My daughter is 3, and I can’t even imagine…just…ugh. What a fucking nightmare. It is so unfair that there are “people” like this who prey on little children. I wish there was a way to sniff them all out and just put them out of our misery.
I truly hope there is justice in this case, and that this useless sack of shit gets exactly what he deserves.

A Northern California man has been charged with attempted murder in the brief disappearance of a 3-year-old girl who told police she was buried alive.

Judge Robert Kaster ordered 22-year-old Kody Kaplon of Hornbrook, a small community 270 miles north of Sacramento, held for trial.
According to testimony from Yreka Police Sgt. Ray Boutin, the girl told investigators her abductor took most of her clothes, choked her and buried her. She then dug herself out.
Kaplon is charged with kidnapping, attempted murder and five counts of sexual assault.
