Melissa Jelks

Melissa Jelks

Milwaukee, WI- After years of arguing, Melissa Jelks and the father of her two children, Timothy Adams, learned just how quickly lives can be changed when people make the wrong choices. Especially when it is two people who don’t get along and they add alcohol to the mix of a relationship that is already on the rocks.

On the evening of February 25, 2009, Melissa and Timothy went to her sister’s house to play cards and dominoes. Before leaving their home, Timothy drank three beers and two cups of vodka. While they were at the sister’s house he had at least two more beers. Melissa drank a couple cups of vodka during the visit. Around 10 p.m., when these two returned home, they began arguing. Don’t you just love those drunk and loud neighbors who begin an argument just when you’re ready to go to bed?

The thing is, is that Melisa and Timothy never just argued. Their fights usually escalated into a physical confrontation between the two, which resulted in some serious injuries. This fight, though, ended up being the most serious one of all because Timothy died.

During the argument, Melissa demanded that Timothy leave the residence and she called police. Before officers arrived, Timothy came out of a bedroom with a small, wooden toy bat. Melissa quickly armed herself with a knife. The two struggled over the knife in their children’s bedroom, where Melissa was cut on a forearm when Timothy tried to pull the knife away from her. He dropped the bat and Melissa pushed him against a bedroom wall. When Timothy came at her again, Melissa stabbed him in the abdomen.

Timothy ran out of the room and lay on the living room floor. Melissa followed him and applied a wet cloth to his wound and, again, called the police. Timothy R. Adams died on his living room floor that evening. Melissa told police she thought Timothy would “catch the knife” when she lunged at him with it because he would “typically catch it” during such incidents.

Melissa stated there had been violence between her and Adams in the past, saying that he had bitten her on the face and she had bitten him in the chest. She said he had a scar on his left arm and side from where she had slashed him with a razor, and that she once stabbed him in the back of the neck with a screwdriver. No record of these attacks could be found in online state court records.

Melissa M. Jelks, 30, was charged with second-degree reckless homicide with $15,000 bail.

Ok now that I got that out of my system this really is a sad story. They both abused each other and now one is dead. The violence that happened in that house is incomprehensable to me and very alarming especially since kids are involved. I think this women will be punished twice, knowing she murdered her partner and then jail time. I think jail time is justifiable though.

Damn I usually become extra friendly after a couple of drinks. But then again, I don’t drink very much. This story sure is scary and sad for all involved. Why stay in a relationship if all you do is bicker and kick each other’s ass? I will never understand that.

I have never understood these explosive ultra violent relationships. A black eye just doesn’t say I love you to me. Stabbing? Slicing and dicing? I just cant imagine being in a relationship where I have to sleep with one eye open. I thought home was supposed to be a safe haven.

And its most devastating for the innocent parties involved. Those children have lost both parents. I guess that it is a blessing in disguise though. Who knows what kind of lessons on life those babies were learning from their abusive parents.

Okay do any of you jerks even know this girl to be making comments about a situation that you just read in the damn paper!!!!! How many on you on here can say that you were in a situation somewhat like this?? Did we miss the part that she called the police first needing their help to respond to her situation and the police had to be called a second time after he was dead, it was also not mention in the paper that he was chocking her and threaten to kill her if she left him, yes I’m a woman, and I’ve been in that type of situation, and I also live here in milwaukee where the police do not respond for the black community unless someone is killed. You all are probably saying once less black to worry about too right??? Please don’t make the comment that this could of been avoided if she would of left him, cause in these types of situation that’s is not, and that was not cool to make a comment about they should of taken each other out instead of one dying.. How would you feel if you was in her shoes and this was happening to you??? Oh btw I work with melissa and she’s my friend, she is nothing like what is being said about her. I’m not justifying the situation and I understand that people is entitled to their opinion but don’t judge a book by its cover…

oh boy missie, you’re opening a can of worms here…
I would never find myself in a relationship such as this one, ever! I would leave the sorry piece of crap as soon as they laid a finger on me (well, if it was to cause intentional harm).

They were both abusive alcoholics, plain and simple… either way one or the other would be in jail.. and in this case it’s your friend for murder.

maybe she will learn from this experience and HOPEFULLY she will stay away from alcohol as she doesn’t do well with it.. some people can be asses, just add alcohol and some people go beyond that.

You know, one thing I hate about alcoholics is that they blame it on the alcohol intake.. I blame the person.

Both my parents were alcoholics, and they ended-up just like this… one dead! My daddy thought he killed my mom; she was just unconscience, then he killed himself. Both were drunk as skunks. We ended-up in an orphanage (5 of us). So you’ll have to excuse me if I don’t have one shread of sympathy for the woman or the man. They have left their kids nothing but bad memories. They chose to booze themselves into fist fights at the expense of their kids. I’m white as the driven snow, so the racial implications you imagine are of your own paranoia. My parents had lots of “friends”, too; they didn’t give a shit about us kids… just having a good ole’ time. Is that the kind of friend you were? Give me a f…king break lady!

This is no loss. The man is dead and will not be fathering any more children, nor abusing any more women. The only tragedy here is that he didn’t manage to fatally wound the woman before he died.

Let me correct myself cause I can admit when I’m wrong, the article said that she said that he had 3 at her house and more at her sister’s house and she only had two over at her house, okay, so are we now saying (and I know this might start another debate) when you drink alcohol, your automatically named an alcoholic?? Now if story went like this, (hypothetical story and I’m just curious) he went out partying while she was at home with her kids minding her own business, when he came to visit, they started arguing, he started beating on her, she called the police, he came at her with a bat, so she armed herself for protection to fend him off until the police arrived, and then she ended up stabbing him?? Is she still an asshat then or is it self defense??? What if that situation happened to a family member or a good friend of yours, What would the comments be then?? Would you be upset if you saw something like this about your friend or family member, meaning the comments???

She’s still an asshat. THEIR FIGHTS USUALLY ENDED IN A PHYSICAL CONFRONTATION BETWEEN THE TWO, AND YET SHE CHOSE TO STAY WITH HIM. She is a murdering asshat.

During the argument, Melissa demanded that Timothy leave the residence and she called police. Before officers arrived, Timothy came out of a bedroom with a small, wooden toy bat. Melissa told police she thought Timothy would “catch the knife” when she lunged at him with it because he would “typically catch it” during such incidents.

Quit blaming the police. Seems that the murder happened so fast after she originally called them that they didn’t have enough time to respond to the first call before she made the second call.

It’s called humor and I was hoping you could do better instead of coming on here saying we don’t know the true story because we were not there. Were you?

I asked for you to show some proof to your statements about what really happened and all you can come back with is:

Why do I have to read something that I already know what really happened? None you of you were there, so you are making your comments off story that was printed, nor do I have to tell what really happened cause what’s that going to change, nothing.

I have no problem with revising my story if you can show me some proof that the version I wrote was incorrect, but I have the feeling you really do not know what truly happened yourself and are only going by what was told to you.

I am sorry for the pain you must feel about this situation and I can understand why you feel the need to defend your friend, but she admitted herself that they had a violent relationship and it was a normal thing for them to inflict injuries upon each other.
This was a bad situation to begin with and it ended with a horrific outcome.

It is a pity that he didn’t stay away. It seems even the children would have been better off with an absent father rather than a dead father and a mother in gaol.

Was it common knowledge among friends and relatives that the relationship was so volatile? Did this end come as a surprise, or was it one of those cases where the people who care shake their heads and say “it was only a matter of time….”?
