Shunice, 15, and Darnesha,16, are sisters. On February 24, 2009, they went out for a walk around their North Memphis neighborhood when Deric Basquez approached them. He began calling them “bitches” and “hoes” and told them they were old enough now and then demanded that they perform oral sex on him. When the girls tried to get away, Basquez grabbed them, hit them and repeated his demands.
Unfortunately for Basquez, his attack was futile against this dynamic duo. Instead of becoming his victims, this tough twosome decided to fight back. Shunice picked up a large stick she found on the side of the road and began hitting Basquez with it as hard as she could. Her sister, Darnesha, picked up a brick and threw it at him.
Before the girls escaped Basquez , he was able to get the stick from Darnesha and hit her with it. This resulted in injuring her severely enough that she required treatment at a hospital. Her arm is now in a sling.
But the girls say they’re certain things would have been much worse if they’d done nothing. Their mother agrees. “You know, I ain’t mad at them,” said Diane Thomas. “That’s what they supposed to do…you know, protect theyself.”
Shunice says Basquez has tried to have sex with her twice in the past. I am having a hard time understanding that one. I hope the mother reported these prior occurrences and, if so, WTF? Why was this dickwad still allowed to roam the streets and continue to stalk these girls and possibly numerous others? This is one POS that definitely needs to stay behind bars!
“I think he learned his lesson: that you shouldn’t walk down the street messing with nobody when they ain’t bothering you,” said Darnesha. I completely agree! I am so relieved both of you were able to protect yourselves from being raped by this loser!
The family hopes Basquez has a mirror in jail to remind him of them. Bwahhahaha!
Basquez is being held on a $60,000 bond on two counts each of soliciting a rape and aggravated assault. He’s been behind bars before serving 2 years in prison for shooting a 12-year old girl with a stray bullet in 2000. He also had two DUI’s in 2008.

He looks super-pissed in his mugshot, and like he got attacked by 40 cats. Good.
Kudos to those girls. That had to have been a scary situation and they handled it wonderfully. It’s just too bad nobody kicked him in the balls.

I love it!!
Kudos to these two girls…and kudos to their mom for teaching them to fight back! I remember my mom telling me that if I was ever approached like that, to start screaming, flailing my arms, kicking, hitting, whatever to get him away! She also told me to pee my pants…although I wonder now if some pervs might have liked that more.
