Albertville, AL – I have the warmest, fond memories of my childhood pediatrician. He was such a nice man: fatherly, attentive, yet professional. Certainly not the kind of man who’d rape a patient. But then, my pediatrician wasn’t Michael Sharpe.
On Wednesday, authorities arrested Michael Roy Sharpe, 63, in Birmingham on charges of 2nd degree rape and sodomy. Dr. Sharpe runs the Child Life Pediatrics Center in Albertville, where he apparently raped a 14-year-old patient on 3 separate occasions.
The girl, who is now 15, originally reported the rapes to the Alabama Medical Board of Examiners and then to the Alabama Department of Human Resources, who then reported the case to the Sheriff’s Department.
He’s been in the area for just five years. Oddly, he’s led a bit of an itinerant life for a physician, having previously lived in Connecticut, Illinois and Tennessee. While he has no criminal record, authorities are contacting law enforcement and medical agencies in those states to investigate further. Reports say that his wife still lives in Tennessee, but that they visit each other “regularly.” Strange.
Dr. Sharpe was arraigned on three charges of second degree rape and sodomy, as well as possession of child pornography on Thursday morning, and is being held on $1 million bond.
The Sheriff’s Department is urging anyone who may have a complaint of abuse against Sharpe to call them at 256-582-2034.
And Dr. Goldstein? Where ever you may be, my thanks to you for being a mensch and not a raping scumbucket.

I have 2 teenager girls and when I take them to the dr (maybe twice a year) I go back with them when they are being checked out and of course their dr is a woman but still……. unless my girls tell me not to go back with them. I am going!

They obviously have more than just the girl’s statement, and then there’s the CP. I can’t believe this is his first time. Maybe all the moves coincide with times when the heat got turned up, but LE did not have enough evidence.

when I was a kid there was this pediatrician my mom took us too really nice man. Never harmed any of us in any way. then some years later when i was in my teen we saw on the news that he had been arrested on several counts of sodomy to his patients over the years. his name was dr.hickock. wow what a trip to see this once again.

Hum, I have a 13 yr old boy and I still go back with him. and my two girls …even though they are young… 10 and 3… I always go with them. I don’t trust anyone with my kids!!
Here is a lesson parents, you need to protect your kids. You see it all the time…even when they reach 13 or 14, they aren’t safe, they still need you! so, be there!

what a sick fuck. 1 million bond is a lot of money, even for a doctor, so this asshat rapist should be stuck in jail where he belongs. i bet his cellmates are enjoying playing doctor with this crapsack, i’m sure there are are many amateur proctologists who are ready to tear his old ass up.
with all those charges, i’m sure this ancient fuck will get enough time to make it a life sentence for him. retirement is the time for enjoying one’s favourite hobbies and interests, and there’s no better place for a sodomy enthusiast like this elderly asshole than prison. dr. asshat deserves to spend his golden years getting anally gang raped instead of playing golf.

I decided many years ago that my doctors would be female; I’ve had a couple of creepy experiences with male doctors, and I just don’t feel comfortable about having a man check my private parts any more than I would have my gas attendant check my private parts. Hey, that’s just me.

My son is 16 and I still go back with him. Except when they do the hernia test. My son makes me leave. But I stand at the door and listen and so far have only heard a cough! And it’s always really quick, so…
On another note–your family doctor is supposed to be someone you can trust and turn to if you don’t know where else to go. They are there not just for medical needs, but often are a resource for other needs. This poor girl is never going to be able to trust another doctor or any medical personnel ever again. And if someone doesn’t trust doctors, then they don’t get medical treatment when it is warranted and it just leads to a whole mess of other troubles.

I seen this link online and desided to read it because i to am concerned about this. Why you ask. Is it because i’m a parent looking for evil people in the world? Someone else to have to protect my child from? No its not for that reason at all. Yes it scares me to think it might be possible. But its possible from anyone. Sick yes, i was molested when I was 5 by my own cousin. Someone I should have been able to trust. I couldnt. This is a doctor, one that treats children. One that treated my child. We loved Dr. Sharpe. He was the most kindest, friendliest and most loving doctor. His personality was that of an angel. He had a disability and it was nice to have a doctor to understand that. He knew how my son felt and he knew how to address the issues my son had with life and dealing with his disability. This a doctor we did trust. I trusted him with my niece that I raised and with my son. I’ve never seen any side of him that would make me think anything bad. never…I am concerned that this man is being accused for a horrific crime and people have just deemed him guilty when there havent been a trial. I am totally not saying he shouldn’t be in jail awaiting a trial. After all he did have child porn. There are lots of sick people. he just happened to get caught with it. I’d never take my child back to him after this, the finding of the child porn. But I do think people do need to step back and look at everything else going on. But because you do not live in this area you dont hear the whole news. There have been NO ONE ELSE come forward. No other girls in any state. I hope and pray no one does for the sake of the children. I truly hope none of this stuff happened to that poor girl but if it did then he should be put away. I have asked my son and called my neice and neither say Dr. sharpe ever did anything inappropriate. I never left my son alone unless i had to go to the restroom but he is so young and my neice was older so I did let her go in by her self. So I dont know. Looks to me like other girls would have come forward already.

One victim is too many. How many should come forward to make you think it may be true? Because no other victims have come forward does not mean there are none. Because he was alone with other children and nothing happened does not mean he would never do this.
Possession of child pornography by a pediatrician is enough to make me think he is a vile creature. I don’t need a trial to figure that one out. I am glad he “happened” to get caught.
DO NOT count me in that “anyone”. I have never and will never be caught with child porn or raping a young person. To even think it is “possible from anyone” is asinine.

I have an 11 year old son who has been Dr Sharpes patient since the very 1st day he moved to Boaz (Dooley House) where he had taken over from DR Roman Alders, I am a very protective parent and very observant of anything that concerns my son.! I have never seen Dr Sharpe be anything but nice, sincere, and respectful! And my son was sick a lot so we were there quite often! I dont beleive this horse manure for one friggin instant! I believe he did have sex with the teenager and it had carried on past the rape stage. Also I heard from a source that the porn he susposedly had was of the girl and not a lot of innocent children! I beleive the girls family used him and conned him out of money over the period of time this was alledgedly happening and when he got tired and refrained from paying them they then and only then sought revenge. This is the biggest farce I have ever heard of. I dont agree with a 63 yr old or any other adult engaging in any sexual conduct with underage children or minors but how many other guys over her age had she already been with? Dr Sharpe is a kind hearted and generous soul and I think this girl and her parents got a fianacial free ride on his behalf. But… first and foremost, I thought you were innocent til proven guilty in this wonderful society, yeah right! So until we know for sure exactly what happened , stop calling him names and if you know him & your child was a patient then you know this is not right. I think in a lot of cases its the trampy girls and their money grubbing parents are probaby the culprits !
And.. if it was so terrible and horrifying why did she wait so long to tell somebody? BOY you can smell the fish in this scenario. When this happens over a 2 or 3 year period, does that sound like she wasnt getting something for her disgusting troubles? The problem here is the girl wasnt of age but in this state its referred to as rape, sodomy and so on, no matter if the so called child has had abortions or even births as long as she’a under age its the guys fault. I got one more thing to say, I wish Dr Sharpe the best and if he can ever be a pedatrician again, my son will be 1st at the office!

I will address the stupid question of why she waited. I can tell you from personal and firsthand experience why she waited, as I have gone through this myself. One, it’s scary. Two, it makes you feel like you have no self worth. Three, you are afraid no one will believe you. Unless you have been in that situation don’t be spouting off on how she should feel about it. I trully feel for this girl, and I’m glad she finally got the courage to talk to someone, and that someone listened.
As for the second half of that paragraph. The girl was fucking 14 lady! Not 17. I’ve seen how young girls dress these days, and yes some of it is inappropriate. But come the fuck on! He’s a doctor for Christ’s sake. Aren’t there moral and ethical issues involved here? He should damn well know not to be doing that crap, especially since he under obligation of the law to report any such instances should they arise.
He may not have hurt your family, and I’m glad to hear that. But DO NOT place blame on the child. I hate when people do that. That is the main reason half of this stuff doesn’t get reported. The girls always here at some point or any another it was their fault. It is never their fault.
