Gladys Esquilin-Perez and Armando Velez-Esquilin

Osceola County, Fla.- Do you know where your children are? This question was used as a popular service announcement on American television throughout the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s and it usually broadcast around 10 p.m. or 11 p.m. It was the first thing that popped into my mind when I read about 35-year old Gladys Esquilin-Perez, because, not only did she know where her three sons were and what they were doing, she became an accessory to their crime.

On February 20, 2009, Laura Shelley had just gotten off work at 11:30 p.m. and was walking home along US-192. Three young men walked past her, then turned around, grabbed her and threw her into nearby bushes. They began yelling at her in Spanish and wrestled with her until she released her purse.

Their mother, Gladys Esquilin-Perez, knew damn well what her thieving juveniles were up to because she was right up the street waiting for them. She even helped them hide the evidence and change their clothes.

After the robbery, Shelley walked to a nearby friend’s and called 911. The police set up a perimeter and found the three teens a few blocks away along with their mother.

“She’s not a mother,” stated Laura Shelley, “Yes, mothers protect their children, but a mother should also raise their children better.”

Deputies arrested Armando Velez-Esquilin, 18, Luis Daniel Velez-Esquilin, 17, and Anthony Velez-Esquilin, 15, with the charge of robbery. Gladys Esquilin-Perez was charged with accessory after the fact.

This is amusing yet saddens me deeply at the same time. Parents are no longer parents these days. i would like to think there was a good reason for this idiocy, but i know deep down that that is a pipe dream. (by good reason i mean they needed money for food, not that, that would excuse an act such as this) Parents seem to take the approach of friends vs. parent anymore, i see it all to often, it only leads to things like this. so sad.. so very very sad. The worst part is its the kids who are hurt by this, and yes i realize this kids are older, but, they were probable brought up thinking this behavior was acceptable.

Armando looks like one of Madonna’s back up dancers. Well, maybe one of the rejected ones.

That plan is pretty fucking stupid anyway…really how much could they possibly net with random targets like that? I wonder how long they plotted and tried to cover all the angles to evade the police…too bad this woman had to be their victim. Lucky for them she didnt have a gun.

Learning English might been a smarter step than learning to mug people.

Parents, you want to be your children’s friend — their co-conspirator, fence, accessory after the fact — and sometimes you end up sharing their incarceration experience!

Resist those urges to be their buddy!

I AGREE! People need to be role models and set the standard for their kid, not sharing joints and helping them commit crimes! Fucking psycho. They’ll get away w/ this and we’ll hear about one or all of them in a few years for murdering someone during the commission of a crime or something like that…
