Tears flowed for a Middle Village teen at an emotional funeral led by his broken?hearted uncle who recalled the life of the talented 16?year?old killed last week by a suspected drunk driver in a stolen car.

Some 400 people turned out at Resurrection Ascension Church in Middle Village to bid farewell to Robert Ogle, the Brooklyn Technical High School student who was praised for his loyalty, creativity and friendship.

“He had a knack for friendship the way other people have skills in carpentry or language,” said Monsignor Sean Ogle, the uncle who conducted the funeral mass, his voice faltering occasionally.

Robert, 16, was a football player, an avid member of the school’s debate society and a volunteer at the Queens Hall of Science. He was walking home from a friend’s birthday party early Feb. 1 in Middle Village when he was struck by a silver Kia that police said was driven by Kenneth Guyear, 27.

Robert was pronounced dead at the scene. His friend, 20?year?old Brooklyn resident Alex Paul, died later at Elmhurst Hospital.

Ogle said his nephew recently attended a dodgeball game at the high school of a childhood friend.

“He didn’t just show up, he made T?shirts for the entire team,” Ogle said, noting the teen had fashioned them after the Average Joes, the team in the 2003 comedy film “Dodgeball.”

Though Robert’s team was eliminated, he was still in high spirits when he returned home.

“He said, ‘We were the Below?Average Joes, I’m afraid,’ ” Ogle said.

Robert’s friends and classmates also gathered on the social networking Web site Facebook to share their shock and sadness.“Robert was always the peacekeeper. He volunteered to make our team hoodies for us,” wrote classmate Heba Pugachevsky?Zielkowski. “He was always so nice to everyone, telling everyone that they did great and downplaying himself. I can’t imagine a better teammate.”

Speaking in front of the Queens courthouse Tuesday, Brendan Ogle and his wife May said the driver shouldn't have been out on the streets in the first place.

Police say Kenneth Guyear, 27, was drunk when he stole a car and hit two pedestrians on February 1 in Middle Village.

Robert Ogle, 16, and his friend, Alex Paul, 20, were walking home from a party when they were hit and killed.

"It's the most heartbreaking thing you can do to a person, to kill a child on them. I would like to tell that to him. It may not register at all, but that's something I would like to say to him face to face."

Guyear faces manslaughter, DWI and other charges in connection with the hit-and-run.

If convicted, he could face up to 25 years in prison.

It is unfortunate and unfair that the lives of Robert Ogle and Alex Paul had to end like this. Watching Ogle's parents on TV talk about what a great kid he was is heartbreaking. These kids and their families did not deserve this. While Kenny didn't go out with the intention of hurting anyone, he did. Two people are now dead because of his actions. It is sickening that there are people out there sticking up for this guy. I understand he had a tough childhood but that is no excuse for what he did. He is 27 years old and responsible for his own actions. You can't blame his parents for this or the "system". In the real world, it's sink or swim. If you can't take care of yourself at 27 the problem is you not everyone else around you. What did he think was going to happen when he tried to drive under the influence and alcohol zanex? Unless he was unaware of the effects of these drugs (which I seriously doubt) there should be no one defending him. And as for putting myself in his shoes, I too grew up around drugs and with neglectful parents. I learned from the bad examples what not to do. I am where I am in life today because I took responsibility over my life. I am almost done with college, I go to work everyday and I pay my bills without the help of the system.

I've had a hard life. I don't run over people.

Being drunk or high is just an excuse. That fact is that he caused himself to get in that condition. He didn't care about the laws. He didn't care about his own body. And he certainly didn't care about anyone else.

I can't imagine supporting or defending or making excuses for anyone who did this... family or not. I would be first in line to kick their butt. Then I would apologize to the victims for having such a POS in my family.

Most likely he won’t be driving for a while after he gets out. Between his license expiring and he probably will need to go through a lot of red tape to even get it back after this if he even does he will probably be forced sober for years by then and will have adopted a different lifestyle. Remember that sentence is almost half of his life at that point.

I want to begin by pointing out I do not know the asshole or live in the neighborhood and I'm just assuming he's a worthless piece of shit. But since you do know this worthless piece of shit, what makes you think, he'll feel he needs a license to drive. He didn't have a drivers licenses this time when he wantonly killed to innocent people, by running them over & over & over, so what makes you think he'll feel he needs a license next time if he survives jail which I hope he doesn't. Because even though I'm currently not a neighbor that asshole could move into my neighborhood if he gets out.

25 years for two deaths is short term and if he is allowed time and a half- it's not just short term-it's criminally short term time. He should be made to serve all 25-but with the system the way it is he could be out in 10.

some states have already started changing this with habitual DWI-if the person kills then they charge with the toughest charge possible-some drunks have gotten capital for this. Too bad he isn't facing that.

Umm in our family…the rule is if it has anything to do with drunk driving dont call for bail money. Kinda falls under that you made your bed, now you lie in it lesson.

not sure of the rule in their family, I could probably find out from his cousin though as it stands I don't know how many times bail was posted for him or for what or if it was posted at all.

He according to his own myspace and actions loves the gangsta world-so he will get to revel in that lifestyle. He will most likey join a prison gang and boast of his deeds. Kenneth has had plenty of time to convert to a better life and choose a different path.
I highly doubt-prison will change him-it will just be a short term punishment for what he did. If you really think he can’t get alcohol in prison LOL. The prisoners put fruit up their anus and ferment their own in prison. They even trade off for it in prison. So Ken getting sober in prison is doubtful. He probably will be one of the anal shoping carts in no time.

Short term punishment? If he gets 25 years that is a long time. And no I have never been to prison and try to keep out of trouble so I don't know any of that first hand.
