Lakeland, FL–Are you pregnant? Are you contemplating starting a family? Let me clue you in on something important…babies cry. They cry a lot. They cry because they are hungry. They cry because they are uncomfortable. They cry because they are lonely. And sometimes, they cry for no particular reason at all. They’re babies, it’s their job. As a parent, your job is to soothe and comfort them the best you can…not break them.
On Wednesday, Carmen Cardenas and her husband, Ruben Gonzalez-Valtierra, brought their month old son to the emergency room at Bartow Regional Medical Center. The baby was injured and breathing erratically. Because of the severity of his injuries, the baby was immediately airlifted to St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Tampa. The newborn had a bruise on the back of his head, a bruise on the right side of his forehead, a fracture to the right side of the skull above the ear, two bruises right above his groin, and a cut to the underneath of his penis.
Carmen Cardenas admitted to harming the baby on at least two occasions. She told detectives that the baby wouldn’t stop crying, so she picked him up out of his crib and swung him around, slamming his head into the crib. I guess that explains the skull fracture. Two weeks prior to that, she grabbed the baby and dropped him onto the top rail of his crib…that’s how he got the bruises above the groin. There is no explanation for the cut to his genitals.
In Ruben’s interview with police, he said that the child could have injured his head during a feeding. Ruben stated that he was feeding the baby and the little booger just slid right off his lap! As he was falling, he might have hit his head on an end table next to the bed. That may have caused the bruise on the baby’s forehead, but not the skull fracture. Ruben also told police that he suspected Carmen was abusing the baby, but didn’t have enough evidence to confront her. Excuse me? Your newborn child had bruises and that in itself wasn’t enough evidence? Fuck off.
Carmen Cardenas, 36, let her frustration get the best of her and her son is suffering because of it. Now, she sits in jail on $500,000 bond, charged with aggravated child abuse. The baby is in critical but stable condition. Let’s hope he is never returned to his asshole parents.

Actually ….YES!!! I am pregnant. And holy shit this story…. Yet again a story of people who NEVER deserved to be parents. Me and my husband are mentally preparing ourselves for the arrival of the baby. We have been reading a lot and talking to people so we know what to expect. Im learning to wake up in the middle of the night and early in the morning as I know I will be the one doing so when the baby comes.
I ABSOLUTLY CANNOT FATHOM HURTING A CHILD. My heart breaks when a baby cries, much less to know to that you inflicted the pain to make it cry. Its very very sad. Im scared to death to raise my child in today’s world. People are sick and twisted. I swear to god if anyone ….and I mean anyone hurts my baby…il kill em. Im not even a mother yet but ive already got the motherly instinct.

It makes me want to SCREAM everytime I hear of another abusing asshole who blames the poor baby’s crying as their reason for the abuse…WTF!?!? I swear this country really needs to get some sort of program together and have parenting classes for every new mother. I say before you are ever allowed to leave the hospital with your new born you must attend a full day training course on how to handle a crying baby. Maybe, just maybe it could teach these assholes that if they just run down the checklist of reasons why the baby may be crying they might actually be able to get the baby to stop crying by means other then abuse. Because, ABUSING A BABY WILL NOT GET THEM TO STOP CRYING…IT WILL ONLY THEM CRY MORE! When will these people get it thru their heads????

First, CONGRATULATIONS to bahaley4e!! You’re about to embark on the most frustrating, back-breaking, patience testing, mind-blowing, EXCITING and REWARDING experience of your life! (not necessarily in that order)
Much as you try – there are always going to be things you just can’t prepare for. When it comes to babies – “Expect the Unexpected”!
As for this bitch, Carmen? Holy shit! Someone tell me PLEASE – what goes through a person’s mind when they think swinging it around till its head hits the side of the crib is a “good idea” or a way to stop the crying??? This is out and out revenge visited upon this helpless child. Revenge for keeping her awake, revenge for insulting her ears with his crying, revenge for every little thing he did – that she didn’t like. Doesn’t matter to her that he did them unintentionally – or that he is supposed to do them in order to communicate (by virtue of him being a BABY!) How dare he? (stupid cunt)
And the baby’s “father”? When it comes to a helpless infant who has no way (other than his crying) to communicate to you that he is being abused – suspicion is enough to warrant action. You (and especially your baby) can’t AFFORD to wait for “proof” – cuz by then it’s too late you MORON!
I pray this baby heals completely and goes to a happy, healthy, loving home.

Congrats Bahaley4e! My advice is to start getting as much rest as you can now because you’re body needs it and that need will grow stronger as your pregnancy progresses. You’ll have plenty of time after the lil’ bundle of joy arrives to experience sleep deprivation! No need to try to get accustomed to it, instinct will kick in and your body will adjust to the new routine. Promise!
(P.S. “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” is a great book for first time mommies-to-be!)

This little defenseless baby is only a month old for christ sakes. Babies cry that’s part of what they do. Both parent’s especially mom (actually I don’t call her a mom) are shitheads. My thoughts and prayers are with the baby and when this baby recovers I hope it goes to a nice loving and caring family.

Hahah…thank you everyone. We are very excited. Were doing everything in our power to be as ready as possible. Im reading a lot, resting, eating, and baby shopping all the time! Im very excited!
FlamingFox: My husband came home with some baby clothes and that book for me yesterday. What a sweetheart! I skimmed through it last night and plan to start reading it today! Thanks for the advice! He also baught himself a book called “So your going to be a Dad”…I think its just the cutest thing ever that he is so excited about this. And I bet he read that book for 3 hours last night!

Congrats!!! And by the way my husband read that book and really enjoyed it.
I can say it is very frustrating at times, especially it they are caulicky (sp?), but if worst comes to worst put the baby down and walk away, it’s not that hard. When you see them sleeping or just doing “baby things” and you see their innocence it is all worth it. What a bunch of assholes these parents are.

Thank You! And you know, even though this will be my first child, Im so excited and I understand the concept of being a parent. I just cannot fathom how ANYONE hurts something that they made. I mean that child is a miracle and its you. How can you look at your child and even think about abusing or even killing it? It blows my mind and makes me sick. (but it seems everything is these days!!
) I know this wont be easy, and at times very very challenging, but I think of it as an honor. I was allowed to become a mom, I was given the privlege of carrying this baby, and have the love of my husband to help give our baby a loving home. I just dont understand the people that dont see parenthood as an honor. They defintly dont deserve to be called parents!

I know what your saying. For me I felt so much love and the protection instinct before my daughter was even born and then when she actually was born it skyrocketed even higher than I could imagine. These parents are obviously selfish and like abroad said must not care very much for themselves. Hang in there with the sickness, it will pass (hopefully….)

“The Wisdom Of Our Fathers” by Tim Russert. Very good book, I finished it cover to cover in 3 days because I could not stop. It’s not a how to book or anything just many good short stories and/or lessons. Some about morals and values, some about what a prick the guy was, and some about just one experience that stuck with the writer.

Parenting classes, parenting classes, parenting classes are needed for the parents of newborns. Many people are truly not prepared for caring for their newborn babies. The result is: battered babies. Too high of a price to pay for ignorance.

7a) If so, how did the baby’s penis get cut?
