Robert Fleury Raped His Girlfriend’s Son

New Bedford, MA - On January 19, Robert T. Fleury’s live-in girlfriend went to work, leaving Fleury, 42, alone with her 7-year-old son. Sometime during the day, Mr. Fleury abused that trust by forcibly raping the boy. Mr. Fleury forced the boy onto the couch, orally raped him, and forced him to perform oral sex. The boy resisted, but Fleury overpowered him. When his mom returned home from work, the boy told her what had happened, and she called the police. Fleury admitted raping the boy, and was arrested and charged with two counts of rape of a child under 16 by force and indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.
Fleury has no history of sex offenses, but he’s not unknown to the judicial system. His lawyer creatively tried to use his background to his credit during his arraignment, citing his client’s lack of “serious” offenses, and claiming that his client is enrolled in MassRehab and has also been taking classes at UMass Dartmouth and Bristol Community College. Based on that, his attorney asked for a disgustingly low $2,500 cash bail.

quick search turns up quite a history, including charges of heroin possession, marijuana possession, operating a vehicle with a suspended license, simple assault, reckless driving, DUI, breaking and entering with felony intent, larceny over $500.00, felonious assault with a dangerous weapon, and escape from a correctional institution. Now, granted, many of these charges go back 20 years, but clearly this is not what you would term a model citizen, right??
Thankfully, Judge Robert E. Baylor sees things Ruby’s way. Citing the seriousness of the crime, he set a $50,000 cash bail, and sent them on their way. He also signed a restraining order barring Mr. Fleury from any contact with the victim and his family should he be able to post bail. Yay, judge.
Robert T. Fleury is due back in court on February 18. Let’s hope he doesn’t make bail, and spends a good, many years locked far, far away from little boys. And the rest of us, for that matter!

WHY did he even get bail in the first place? My guess is someone is gonna make that bail, or a % of it which is what they require and if this is his 1st offense (being caught, that is) it might not be that difficult.

There is no “cycle of abuse” in terms of sexual assault. The increased likelihood of a victim becoming an abuser is so statistically insignificant, it could be explained away by any number of factors.
I do agree that this boy would likely benefit from some counseling, though.

I meant to address this in the last post you brought this up on. When I mentioned “cycle” I was not meaning that …using this case as an example…this boy will now probably grow up and shove his dick in another kids mouth. The cycle I was referring too, albeit vaguely, was the cycle of abuse in regards to the elevated chances that this boy, going by the numbers, has a higher chance of abusing drugs and alcohol, participating in risky sexual activity (including prostitution), and because of guilt, shame, trust issues etc, etc, possibly have difficulties interacting with other people.
My point is that these kids that get abused like this one, do not just go back to playing Gears of War 2 with their friends once the taste of sperm dissipates. Sure, a good bit of them DO go on to live normal, happy lives. But a lot do not.
Lastly, you are right that the majority of sex offenders were not abused as children, the numbers do show that sex offenders with child victims had a higher rate of being abused as children than sex offenders with adult victims. So there is some correlation.

I agree with that first part, Morbid, which is why I mentioned that the boy could benefit from some counseling. In fact, this particular case is probably more psychologically detrimental than a number of cases of sexual abuse, given the gender and age of the victim and the nature of the crime (forced instead of coerced, for example). Unfortunately, the term “cycle of abuse” is ambiguous, which is why I always feel the need to clarify. You’d be amazed by how many people think that sexual abuse causes pedophilia. I don’t mean to suggest that sexual abuse is not damaging.
As for that last paragraph, given the high percentage of children who are abused by family members, I would say the correlation you speak of could be explained by genetic factors. Those those young victims are more likely to carry the genetic disposition that causes or contributes to pedophilia.

Wow this is the second time I have seen a genetic link to being a pedo…can you expand on this? Either here or PM. I understand the genetic proponent to alcoholism and drug abuse but PEDOism. Being a survivor of child abuse…I had my share of addiction problems in my past. Alot and I mean alot of woman and men in recovery have been abused as children. Most of them have never healed their past.
Kudos to that brave boy…she is a good momma…he had no problem telling her when she got home what happened. Heal little one completely.
