…and almost squished her baby.

ladwaina car 300x167 Ladwaina Barron Drove Into A School Bus...Ladwaina Barron

Lehigh Acres, FL - Some days, nothing goes right and you just wish you had stayed in bed.   It seems Ladwaina Barron had one of those days on Thursday, as she plopped her 7-month-old in her car seat, but didn’t buckle her in, put the car seat in the car, in the FRONT seat and didn’t buckle that in either, and then drove into a school bus.  Uh huh, should have stayed in bed.

Around 8 AM Thursday morning, Ladwaina Barron, 21, was driving her godfather’s Acura on busy Leonard Blvd.  The morning sun was blinding, the school busses were making frequent stops, and cars were rushing to get to work.  Only Ladwaina can say for sure what distracted her, but somehow she managed to plough into the back of a school bus at a pretty healthy clip.  The photos tell the tale.

Now, accidents happen to even the best of drivers, and if that was the whole story, Ladwaina wouldn’t find herself featured on the Dreamin’ Demon.  No, sir.   But Ladwaina wasn’t travelling alone.  She had her beautiful 7-month-old baby girl Aniyah Sarai Burton with her.  And here’s where Ladwaina did everything as wrong as any parent could.

Let me count the ways:

1. Aniyah was sitting in her car seat, but she was not buckled into it,

2. The car seat was on the front passenger seat, which is a deathtrap for young children.  Carcar reviewscar reviews seats need to be in the back seat,

3. The car seat was facing forward rather than rearward, as recommended, and,

4. The car seat itself was not strapped into the car.

I am not kidding.   Ladwaina put her precious girl unrestrained into an unattached car seat facing the wrong way in the wrong part of the car.  And then drove into a school bus.

Florida state law requires children under age 5 to be protected with an approved and properly used child restraint device (italics mine), and specifies that infants must ride rear-facing until they are at least one year old and weigh 20 pounds or more.

Somehow — thankfully — little Aniyah slid under the airbag as it deployed.  Airbags in the front seat are usually fatal for infants; yet both mom and baby sustained only minor injuries and were treated at the local hospital and released.   The three students from Michigan Elementary School who were riding the bus were all just fine.    I’m delighted everyone involved is ok.

Here’s what the car seat looked like after the crash (that’s the deployed airbag on top of it):

On her MySpaceMySpaceMySpace, Ladwaina is touting the whole thing as a miracle.  I’d say that if there is a god up there granting miracles, Ladwaina just got her fair share for life.  But seriously, isn’t there an old saying, “God helps those who help themselves?”   Ladwaina Barron needs to take a course in child safety right away, and remember to follow the rules.

I don’t think you can count on divine intervention for stupidity more than once.   And you sure don’t want to play fast and loose with something as cute as this:

Tazzz is smashing this story over in the forums.  Lots more pix of the crash site there, too.

That IS a “doctored” or “split” pic, right? She didn’t pose for a pic while waiting for an ambulance — I pray! LOL Then again… she OBVIOUSLY isn’t too bright!

Thank God or — whatever — that baby was basically unhurt! I thought hospitals taught how to properly use car seats now for new parents? This is just unreal.

Guess she probably only got a ticket, huh?

KEE-RIST! Not only is it a CAR seat, but an INFANT seat, which for no reason should be used forward facing, no matter how old/big the child is!!!!! Wow, she’s right it was a miracle.

Fucking Christ. That picture of the car seat under the airbag should be copied by all police departments and used in a shit load of public safety announcements of what NOT to do.

Dumb twat is lucky her child isn’t dead.

Was that a serious question about her posing? That is obviously a split pic *scratches head* I hope you were being sarcastic about not reeallly knowing.

Also, she is a dumb bitch. God definitely was watching over her and her child

There is also a saying that God watches over babies and fools. Perfect example.

Becca, I so agree with you.

    From her myspace:

“When the enemy comes, he comes to steal, kill and destroy. On January 8, 2009 he tried to “kill”, but GOD spared my life and my baby’s life. God had mercy on the both of us and gave us another chance. This was a big eye opener and showed me that we should not take life, the people that we love or (hate/envy) for granted because we never know when its our time. Everyone has a date on the calender and January 8, 2009 was not it for me or my baby, even though the devil thought he had us in a bag. Aniyah was blessed and did not have a single scratch, brusie, or cut anywhere. No broken bones, fractured bones…NOTHING, and God I thank you. ME…I took a couple bruises scrapes, scratches, but I’ll take life with the bruises over death anyday. We were absolutely blessed and I am sooooooooo grateful. Lord I thank you. To all the people that showed love and sent their blessings…I appreciate it, and thanks. P.S. I GIVE A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO THE UNKNOWN MAN/ANGEL WHO SAVED MY DAUGHTER’S LIFE AND TOOK HER OUT OF THE CAR BEFORE THE FIREFIGHTER’S OR POLICEMEN ARRIVED ON THE SCENE.”

I’m all for praising the Lord and all but she needs to stop being delusional. The “enemy” had nothing to do with this unless the “enemy” took possession of her body and forced her into that chain of stupidity. She seems to really love that kid, here’s hoping this knocked some sense into mom and she will use car seats properly in the future. Ah who am I kidding… do these people ever learn?

But I will agree with her…Aniyah was blessed and angels were watching because those pictures of her car on her myspace look like they should be accompanied with body bags.

Was this mom ever charged with anything as she should have been? In my state, this would have constitued social services being involved, reckless driving, endangering the well being of a child, speeding and failure to maintain her vehicle at the very least.

She is also other mothers in the area aren’t out looking her up!! She wouldn’t have been safe on the street around here.

She said God was looking out for her and her child….this may well be true however, I guess God saw that she wasn’t looking out for this innocent child so He decided for a minute He should.

Improperly belting your child in constitues child neglect in my area. She is lucky she is not from Kentucky.

She has not been charged yet. The investigation is ongoing. I posted the Florida law in the story because that, to me, makes it clear that SOME charge must be forthcoming. Of course, it could just be a moving violation, but I think this deserves a child endangerment charge, at the least. I suspect we’ll know more in the next couple of days.

I truly hope this mother learned how lucky she is and how stupid she was! She looks young, but that is no excuse for not having any common sense.

I am glad no one was hurt and hope this mother changes her ways. Hopefully someone who knows her will give her the tongue-lashing she deserves and wakes her ass up!

    Don’t count on it.

This was posted in the comments section of her myspace:

“i saw the article dwaina i thank God the two of you are ok. accidents happen no ones to blame just thank god that both of you are ok and still alive especially aniyah.i hope you recover well from your injuries i hear they’re bad may god be with you lotsa love
    -Tonja”

It may have been an “accident” – but that is in NO way equated with “no one is to blame”! Perhaps the sun was in her eyes (as I’ve seen suggested), but the sun isn’t what kept her baby from being properly strapped into her (strapped in) car seat in the BACK of the car, facing backwards. THAT was all “Dwaina’s” fault.

Mean as it sounds, I hope that at least ONE of “Dwaina’s” injuries leaves a scar so that she can be reminded for the rest of her life just HOW close she came to losing her daughter that day because of her own stupidity.

Right on the car seats it tells you how to position them and where. What an asshole. Bet her godfather doesn’t let her borrow his next car! And no one else should either since she can’t drive responsibly! Bet she was texting or talking on her cell phone when this happened…I would bet my pay check on it.

You know what I find really ironic about this whole deal-if she had strapped her baby in the front seat with the car seat belt-that baby would have surely died! Fuck me! In the forums there are quotes- if you haven’t read them yet, I highly recommend doing so-some are just plain riotous!

God bless you little baby-hope you have 9 lives-cause it appears that ignorance is bliss in your mommy’s world!

OMG. Stories like this make me sick. I am sort of a car seat freak, and I cannot believe the kid lived through that accident. The mother should be charged with child endangerment, or better yet, attempted murder! I hope CPS steps in and removes the kid from her custody, because she’s clearly not capable of caring for her.

I agree with Buggsymommy. I think if she would of been buckled she wouldn’t of slid down and she could of died. Again though if she would of been put in the back seat correctly she would of obviously been a lot safer. Lucky, lucky, lucky!

Wow. Why did she have to be amazingly fucking careless about THE wrong thing? I mean, this isn’t just a lapse of judgment, this was utter recklessness. What kind of dumb broad uses a carseat if she doesn’t even bother to secure it properly? That baby would have been just as well off had she just been slapped onto the front seat!

Quite often, I’m amazed by the pure evil exhibited by folks featured on this site. It’s not that often that get to be floored by such sheer stupidity, and let me tell you – it’s not refreshing.

I was a civil litigation paralegal for a major baby food / care product company, for 15 years. One of my primary responsibilities was managing the company’s car seat liability litigation caseload. During that time, I was privy to many photos from auto accident scenes in which infants / toddlers were either injured or killed due to improper car seat use.

Ms. Barron, I wish I could share those photos with you now. You were lucky this time. And keep in mind, If you had been hit from behind, your precious cargo would have been a projectile inside that vehicle. Head / face first. Again, I wish I could share the photos with you.

    Ms. Barron, get a clue.

Absolutey April and if you can’t afford it in my state….go to the free clinic and ask for a little “brown bag” and they will provide you with condoms. There’s no excuse for unwanted children in this world.
Now, talking with teens….they just beleive it can’t happen to them. Well, it does and the sooner they figure this out…the fewer unwanted and abused babies we’ll start seeing.

I understand being glad that your friend and her infant are ok in what could have been a fatal car crash but when “mom” displays ignorance like such, it takes a good friend to correct her. We do blame her, she could have killed her child. Any “Mom” “should” know how to properly restrain her children.

For the record, I hate using any word in the empty space ” ….” but its the use of the apostrophes is synonomous with “You would think or so called”. It’s sad ….

Not to be rude to any religious folk but this always gets me.

Her we have one kid that survives a fatal accident and every one says praise god?

I dont get it? What about all those other dieing babies who are just a innocent it makes no sense. The mom just got very very lucky but needs to have social services up her ass for being so irresponsible.

    OOPSSIE got cut off.

I refuse to talk about my beliefs. I guess the best I can say is that for those who dont beleive that there is a god …that is fine …. I dont know why certain things happen. And there are times when I have my doubts, but I do think that everythig happens for a reason. Times like 9/11 and hearing about the death of an infant are trying times for religious people, but I think overall, those times are meant to keep us on track. I guess overall..I wish I had an answer for you but I dont. I guess believing just takes fatih…

It is a faith…I will not debate my religious beliefs either. I believe when these things happen it is not of God but, is the work of satan.
I would rather believe and find there was NO God than to not believe and find there IS.

Bad things can happen by chance and bad people happen from a shitty upbringing or from having a mental mind.

    No satan…

Its called reality and probability. lol

    Also..

”I would rather believe and find there was NO God than to not believe and find there IS.”

Pascal’s Wager, it fails because there are thousands of religions and many other gods that you dont believe in. If you were born in India you would be replacing god with Shiva or something.

Not here to disprove or prove god just here to make you think, because in reality we all dont know.
