An Arkansas man who lived in the attic of a Plains Township home for a week and stole Christmas presents and food was sentenced to nine to 23 months in county jail.

“There’s not one day I don’t think about what happened,” said Stanley Wayne Carter, 21, before Luzerne County Judge Hugh Mundy sentence him. “I’m sorry for what I did.”
[...]

Ferrance said after hearing Carter’s sentence that she is glad she and her three small children can now go on with their lives, but they still suffer from fear and sleepless nights.

“I don’t feel he was sincere in his apology,” Ferrance said, “and he never apologized to me. He has no idea how tough this has been on us.”

Bobbi Jo Gromer, who had lived in the other half of the double-block home Ferrance occupies, said Tuesday that she feels Carter should have been given more time behind bars. Gromer has since moved.

“My nephew brought him here to find a job and get him on his feet,” Gromer said, explaining that, as time passed, Carter would only sleep and didn’t work.

Gromer said she told Carter around Dec. 19 to either get a job or go back to his hometown in Arkansas. When Carter left, Gromer assumed he either went home or committed suicide.

“I never thought he was in the attic,” said Gromer, adding she had police looking for him and was afraid he had done harm to himself. “I thought he left.”

Carter’s attorney, public defender Basil Russin, ... said a Hazleton man who testified on Carter’s behalf said that when Carter is released from jail, he will reside with the Hazleton man and become employed at his towing business in the Hazleton area.

“He heard about it on TV or read about it, and decided to help,” Russin said.
[...]

Carter received 194 days credit for time already served.

He also was sentenced to one-year probation and to pay $1,640 in restitution costs.

Mundy ordered him to stay away from the Ferrance family and undergo mental-health and drug and alcohol evaluations.

Someone is definitely checking his MySpace for him. I doubt he logged on yesterday. :)

Mr Attic dweller and I love wearing you daughters clothing, Stanley Wayne Carter pleaded guilty yesterday. When asked if he had anything to say to homeowner Stacy Ferrance and her family, Carter said, "I'm sorry."

Holy shit. This guys name should be the Creeper from now until he dies of Aids and Hep C.

Did anyone think of the alien from the cartoon American Dad? I think it was the christmas list that did it. Roger I think his name is.

He was probably scrubbing his taint with her tooth brush.

My personal favorite photo of him is of him prancing around shirt-less showing off his abs and his sexy belly button ring. Images of Buffalo Bill sprung to mind as he pranced around to gay 80's music with his ant eater tucked between his waxed legs and asking himself in the mirror, "Would you fuck me?"
"I'd fuck me."
"I'd fuck you so hard..."

This guys a douche with a capital bag. Whiney emo blogs about wondering if anyone was looking for him? Quit blogging about being suicidal. If you haven't slit your wrists while you're using an old piece of pink panther insulation for a blankie, you're not going to do it the direct route. You'll follow the whiney bitch method of living a lifestyle of death.

Really? Where did you live before that - apartments, trailers or condos? I’ve never been in a house that didn’t have at least a crawlspace up there. In duplexes I’ve seen, the attic or crawlspace is divided too - this duplex was weird in that it wasn’t. Perhaps a house that was converted to a duplex? Or maybe an access point that was crudely blocked off that Mr. Creepy could unblock.

The flat I live in shares an attic with the flat next door. But then this house is an old pair of semi-detached houses with extensions added on the back of both carved up into five flats. Nothing is quite by the book.

Flap with pull-down stairs in the middle of the corridor leads up there. Never occurred to me to worry about this before, - and I am not going to start now!

we had first and second floor it was identical to the other unit, side by side - I just never thought of it - makes me wanna go take a tour to see where the access is & if its blocked off LOL. _ I honestly never gave a shit nor did I concern myself with it.

My parents house was stuffed with pink insolation. I never went up there the hole was very small in the linen closet... I was always told not to go near fiberglass it makes you itch. ;o)

The house I live in I use the attic for storing holiday decorations etc EXCEPT for candles, record albums and cassette etc. I go up there all the time I once thought about putting a floor in so the kids could use it for a hang out. I still can hoist myself up there ... I am beginning to think I should of invested in the folding/drop down stairs long ago...

Oh what memories of being young 20's.- in between the two places I once lived in a motel we paid by the week for a few months. I lived in two different 8 families, a 2 family (bottem floor), three 4 families, and yes I did have a trailer for almost 4 years lol *wink

please, explain Why did they care enough to file the missing person report ??????

Just because you no longer want someone living in your home doesn't mean he's no longer a friend. I've had to kick out friends before. And if he seemed a bit unstable you might be even more concerned about where he is after you've had to kick him out - even if he's not a friend and you can't stand him.

that alone is scary - I once lived in a duplex had no idea their was an attic or where to access it - whats really scary is that my neighbor could of came across to our side of the house thru the attic and down thru the the door in the closet…
