21o0ww5 Melissa Sekulski Killed Jaquan Porter

Staten Island, NY – I really hope Jaquan Porter had a great Christmas this year, because he isn’t getting another one. On Friday, December 26, ten-year-old Jaquan was beaten to death by his mother. Melissa Sekulski, who turned 30 on the day she killed her son, slammed Jaquan’s head into a wall so hard that the child died without ever getting up off the floor where he fell.

Jaquan was morbidly obese – at ten, he weighed some 250 pounds. Melissa Sekulski fed her son large amounts of junk food and kept him indoors so often that many of her neighbors didn’t know she had a child. One neighbor said he saw Sekulski “in and out” of her apartment all the time – but never laid eyes on Jaquan until he was lying dead on the floor.

On Friday evening, Melissa Sekuski ran screaming out of her apartment and into her neighbor J.R. Moore, who went inside to try to revive Jaquan, who by that time was not breathing.

“He was just laid out on the floor, lifeless,” said Moore, who said the boy was stretched out on a blanket and dressed in sweatpants and a T-shirt. “I thought he was too overweight and needed to be on a diet. The way he was laying there I knew something was wrong.” So Moore called 911 and an ambulance came, but it was too late. Jaquan Porter was pronounced dead on arrival at Richmond University Medical Center.

When police interviewed Sekulski, they found a rather unrepentant woman who said that yes, she’d hit her son. In fact, she readily admitted to beating Jaquan with some regularity over the past three years. Sometimes she hit him with belts and left buckle marks and bruises. Other times she heated up a spoon and burned him with it, over and over again. In fact, Sekulski was due in court on December 31 for a domestic violence charge involving her abuse of the boy.

And yet it appears that Jaquan was never removed from his mother’s care. Child Protective Services is “investigating” to determine whether they’ve ever had any involvement with Sekulski or Jaquan at all. Nevermind the criminal case, I guess.

And then, as if to say “screw you, fat kid,” prosecutors chose not to file first or even second-degree murder charges against Melissa Sekulski. Instead, she is charged with manslaughter for “unintentionally” killing her child during what seems to be considered just a routine child-beating. Apparently, if you’re gonna kill your kid, New York is the place to do it.

Melissa Sekulski was arraigned yesterday on the manslaughter charge and will be in court again today on the previous domestic violence case. She is currently being held without bail.

TheMorningStar is gunning for this bitch in our forums. Thanks!

So sad that children come into this world, innocent and pure… Then by help of their fucked up parents, they are shattered..

    Rest in Peace, sweet boy….

What a fucking loser. Not only couldn’t she keep her son healthy, apparently she couldn’t keep him safe! What a shame to kill your kid on your birthday, the day after Christmas. I am not surprised by the charges, ESPECIALLY in New York. Many, many people get away w/ murder there! They are so overloaded and understaffed, not an excuse, I’m just saying…

So what if he was overweight…New York…it was his mothers fault, he was young and she could of helped him. But no instead she chose to kill him, how sad, he didn’t deserve any of it…….

I can’t wait to find out whether CPS had involvement with them before. I can’t imagine she’d be due in court for an ongoing child abuse investigation and CPS would have no record of her….but then, stranger things have happened.

And how does a 10 year old end up 250 pounds? And how does a little thing (as she appears to be in the picture) do any substantial harm to a 250 pounder? He could have sat on her. How does a 10 year old live in an apartment complex and no one knows he’s there? Most 10 year olds are bopping all over the neighborhood with their friends. I have so many questions.

But what rings out loud and clear is that Melissa Sekulski was a shitty mom all along. The fact that she beat him to death is only the final insult. She’s obviously been harming him for a long time.

    Bitch. Rest in peace, Jaquan.

Apparently New York has a soft spot for murderers who kill on their birthdays.

Another sick abuseive mother , who suposably homeschooled her kid , Can’t have junior going to school and people seeing all the burn marks and brusies. The police mentioned her apartment was covered in dead insects and insect poison, no dought cockroaches. Poor little kid, hardly got out of the aparment , nothing to do all day but eat and watch the TV.

Even though he weighed 250 lbs he weezed when he walked and got short of breath so he wasnt in any shape to get abuseive back to his mother. Probly even had a hard time standing up.

Melissa Sekulski, you are a selfish, cold-hearted bitch.
You were killing your son long before you beat him to death.
By encouraging him to eat unhealthy foods and keeping inside
all the while beating him regularly…his soul was dying.

A torture most foul that ended with a terrible act of violence.
You purposely KILLED your son, no two ways about it…..
don’t fool yourself, you are going to hell.

Rest in peace Jaquan…may you find happiness now that you did not find in life.

I have to wonder where was her family? anyone a sister a cousin?
somebody saw what this boy was going through.
250 pounds, poor baby. he probably had a medical condition that made him
that heavy. not just junk food.
the POS mother could care less. just smash his head in.

This is disgusting, infuriating, and just plain evil. How can they NOT charge her with murder? That is what she did to this child. A “routine child-beating”……….are you fucking kidding me? Rest in Peace baby..no one can’t hurt you now. *sniff*

I don’t get it – nobody noticed this kid? No offense “mommy dearest” but you don’t sound like the smartest apple in the tree and you were home-schooling him? I don’t know much about home-schooling but I thought there was some reporting to the school district? Does anyone ever check on these kids to see if there’s a reason they’re not in the public schools? This might cause some red flags to have the ones that are not seen to be checked on? How about a pediatrician? Is there one in the picture? I know plenty of kids who are home-schooled and they are active in the community as well as with other school/neighborhood kids but if there are more like this poor child, who aren’t seen, someone should be checking. I know, I know, the school systems are over their budgets and understaffed, CPS is understaffed, everyone has an excuse but then, something like this happens, I wish I had the answer.

Rest in peace little man, I’m sorry your Mom didn’t care about you.

I was thinking the same thing, that there must be some accountability with home schooling?? There probably is, but apparently hardly anyone even knew he existed, poor thing! Which goes back to your point about excuses. . . . (sigh). . . .

I’ve read about several cases where an abusive parent “home schools” after getting in trouble with Child Protective Services – even with prior CPS involvement, they have managed to get away with keeping a child home where they can torture and starve them uninterrupted by school! As a teacher, I’ve called CPS myself with concerns both about parents and foster parents. The last time I called was about a student who missed over 50 days of school, and was tardy over 40 days. I was informed nothing could be done about it unless she was absent 30 Days Consecutively! Other cases ended in a recommendation for counseling. Such a sad, terrible situation for these poor kids!

That seems to be the road of parents abusing their kids. That way the cops and family services isnt involved.Dont get me wrong my daughters best friend was home schooled up until high school and her mom did it right, all 5 of her kids were home schooled until high school and there are tests they are given to give the child at home and handed in but im in Canada and not sure about American laws,

All most of these ill-prepared, sometimes abusive parents’ need to do in order to fulfill “home schooling” requirements is send away for an “approved” curriculum guide & enroll. That’s it. Then it’s wail-away on the unwanted burden to your “oh-so-fulfilling-life.” What do you want to bet that the Coroner finds prior bone damage (un-healed fractures) to the back of that childs’ skull? Got 2-to-1 odds here!

Not shocked about the charges. Even today, killing your kids doesn’t seem to warrant as much jail time as other offenses. Karma will come to her, let’s hope it’s in the form of the ugly tree she fell out of.

It varies by state. Some states require you to follow a curriculum that they provide, others require testing at different periods. Some require detailed records of what you’re teaching and when. And some states (including the one I’m in) require simply removing the kids from school and signing a form with your intent to homeschool. New York law (where this happened) requires annual notification, an instruction plan submitted, attendance records must be kept, and testing required.

I have no problem with homeschooling, I’m doing it myself. But I do think that at the very least the kids should have to be registered so that somebody knows that they exist and that they should also have to be periodically checked into to make sure that they’re still alive, fed, and not covered in bruises.

I’d sure like to see her instructional plan, and his attendance records and test scores. How ’bout it, New York?
