joe gallegos Joe Gallegos Brutality Ruined Christmas

Phoenix, AZ – This is a story too terrible for Christmas.  But frankly, it’s too terrible for any day, and the family has no choice about dealing with it, so I think we should, too.

On Tuesday, December 23rd, with the excitement of Christmas in the air, two young cousins, Edwin Pellecier, aged 10, and Jesse Ramirez, aged 7, decided to walk to the park just a few doors from their home to play.   They were found a short time later, bludgeoned about the head so badly that the EMT’s could not determine who they were or what had caused their injuries.  A neighbor found them both, lying in the sand, beaten beyond recognition, and called for help.  While the boys were rushed to the hospital, police quickly closed in on a suspect.   Luckily for all, a neighbor’s surveillance camera actually captured images of another neighbor, Joe Sauceda Gallegos, 36, following the boys to the park holding a baseball bat.  A few minutes later, he is shown returning.

Tuesday night, police visited Gallegos’ home.  They smelled chlorine bleach, saw what appeared to be bloodstains on his shoes, and found the bat used in the attack in his home.  He was arrested and charged with two counts of child abuse and one count of a dangerous crime against children. He is being held on $1 million bond.

The boys are both in extremely critical condition, and doctors are not optimistic about their chances for survival.  The moms of the two boys hope the doctors are wrong, and ask for prayers.

Family members say there was no known prior contact between the boys and Gallegos.  So what made this monster snap and beat two innocent boys nearly to death on the neighborhood playground?    Neighbors at the scene told reporters that Gallegos had been recently released from a psychiatric facility, though none seemed to know what he was there for, or why he was released.   A man identifying himself as Gallegos’ uncle (and with whom Gallegos was living) reports that he believes Gallegos is a diagnosed Schizophrenic.

Interestingly, Gallegos has two sons of his own, also aged 7 and 10.  They live in Colorado with their mother.   Could this have anything to do with them?  Possibly.  Because it turns out that this summer Gallegos called police to report that he had killed his two sons in the attic of his home.  Police rushed to the scene only to find that no such crime had occurred.   I’m thinking this doesn’t sound so healthy.   Apparently, the court agreed with RubyRuby reviewsRuby reviews, as Gallegos subsequently underwent a court-ordered mental evaluation in July, and records show he was released from an inpatient treatment facility on AugustAugust reviewsAugust reviews 20th.

So, is Joe Gallegos a delusional Schizophrenic?  Did he, perhaps, think the boys were someone other than who they were?  Did he think they had somehow wronged him??    Was anyone aware of the violence of which he was capable?  I suppose his psychiatric records probably hold some clues.

All I know right now is that Joe Gallegos did something noteworthy enough to warrant a court-ordered mental evaluation and time in an inpatient facility.  Soon thereafter, he cruelly and senselessly bludgeoned two little boys without provocation.  Now their families are facing a very difficult Christmas, and perhaps an even more painful future.

Whatever the psych evaluation showed, I hope Joe Gallegos is never again free and unattended long enough to harm anyone.  And I wish Edwin and Jesse full and speedy recoveries and a belated Christmas filled with joy.

Now Christmas will forever be marred by this tragedy for this family… I want to beat that son of a bitch myself. He KNEW he did wrong or else he wouldn’t have been cleaning up after himself. Monster!

I agree 100 percent! He was sane enough to return home and get out the bleach for clean-up! There is no excuse for murdering anyone, especially innocent children.

    R. I. P. little guys!

Stories like this make me want to hug my children closer and get a gun permit.

Does anyone ever stop to think "what the hell if wrong with this world"? Innocent children cant even go to the park without being confronted by supposed "Men". you think that attacking/raping/killing a child makes you a man...your a fucking joke...a laughing joke! Okay, im sorry, but im truly convinced that there are next to no "good people" left in the world. For fuck sake they are children. Listening and reading the news is nausiating...almost too much to bare...but something has got to be done! Justice needs to be reached. These poor parents and jeeezz...the kids. I cannot imagine. What is it gana take? How many more children need to suffer before something is done? We need justice and we need it now!

Aw hell. I am so sorry for those little boys, and my heart is just breaking for their families.

Rest with God boys, I pray He will comfort your families.

And yes, regardless if mentally ill or not, that monster needs to be put down now..........
  • PEGLEGSKID
I dont care if he was crazy or not...this motherf-cker needs to be beat to deat
  • If the Uncle and everyone else knew he was psycho, they should have kept a very short and secure leash on this asshole. Someone needs to be held accountable for this crime...we already know what to expect for the perp. He'll be back in the looney bin!

This case really hits close to home.
One of the boys older cousins, Richard, is my dad's close friend and coworker. Its extremely hard to hold it in on Christmas and try to have a pleasant day knowing that a close friend is suffering because his two young cousins are in the hospital dying..
  • This is a shame and the problem here is there were signs of his instability. He has been evaluated it must have came out at one point or another that this man was a risk. Someone screwed up!

Obviously, this man didn't have a very good home life. It sickens me that somebody could harm innocent little children. No doubt he will be at the bottom of the social ladder when he lands in prison since child molesters, child killers, and rapists rank there.

He will be the target revenge by every inmate in the prison system.

wtf? i am at an absolute loss for words. this is exactly the reason i am constantly at my door, every 2 minutes, when my kids are outside playing. i don't have a moment of mental peace until they are in the house and my husband thinks i'm overbearing. i can't help it because of these kinds of stories right here. i'm glad i didn't visit the site on christmas, this would've made me lose the mood i was in and make me stop enjoying the day i was having with my babies. but now that i have seen it, i'm gonna hold my kids that much tighter before we leave each other and i'm also gonna keep those boys' families in my head and heart. i can imagine them, walking to the park with that excited bounce in their step that little children have, chattering about what santa was gonna bring, never knowing what awaited them... all these stories hurt, but this one does maybe a bit more so just because of how random and senseless it was.

I am heartbroken for the families of these two precious children whose lives were lost for no reason at all. It is a crime that our society simply refuses to make the difficult decisions required when dealing with our severely mentally ill citizens.

Agreed. If you read the link to Kendra Webdale's story that CheekySweetie posted above, you'll find a clear elucidation of the horrors of severe schizophrenia, and our culture's inability to manage its care. Simply horrific.

I wish you all the best in dealing with your son's illness, flawed_existence, and hope he never harms a soul.
  • flawed_existence
As unbelievable as it may seem, the sad fact remains that Joe Gallegos and his family are also victims in this horrible crime. If he is mentally ill with schizophrenia, then Joe Gallegos lives in a world that you and I would find terrifying and incomprehensible. His family, as with all families of those who suffer from severe mental illness, are as helpless in the face of this disease as Joe Gallegos is.

I have a severely mentally ill adult son who may one day actually succeed in his threat to kill me. He has threatened to and attempted to kill me numerous times since he was 7 years old. There is absolutely nothing the judicial system can do to keep me safe. There are many, many families in the US dealing with the dangers and frustrations of a relative with untreated severe mental illness. Our first (and usually) only resource is law enforcement, thus placing their lives in danger, as well.

I am heartbroken for the families of these two precious children whose lives were lost for no reason at all. It is a crime that our society simply refuses to make the difficult decisions required when dealing with our severely mentally ill citizens.
  • OMG im sitting here bawling!!Although I kinda figured they would succumb to their injuries because they were so severe its just heart breaking for those families to have to go through that not just now but any time of yr.I hope the families will be able to find peace some how down the road.Rest In Peace Edwin and Jesse and I hope you can watch over your families they are really going to need the strength!!

Those poor children and families. What a horrible and senseless crime. Mental illness or not - this man should not have freedom. Whether it be in an institution or jail I think he should be locked up forever.

Tragically sad @ Christmas or anytime, as ruby wrote.:(

The state of what to do with mentally ill people is also tragically sad in this country. A dear GF is currently going thru a terrible time here in MO with trying to get help for her schizophrenic sister. Not a lot of help out there - budget cuts.:(

Unbelievable that this monster could have done such a thing to these poor boys. OMG...RIP Little Edwin and Jesse. *sniff*

The second boy, Edwin age 10, has passed away as well.

    RIP boys.

This is such a sad story (heard about it on last night's news). Poor Jesse, I'm so sorry you died as a result of this man's craziness. Rest in peace, dear child.

I really have to wonder how much the age of the kids had to do with this guy's alleged psychosis and the other reported incident (where he said his boys were dead in an attic).

    Sad News...

PHOENIX (Map, News) - Police say one of two young boys beaten severely in an attack in a Phoenix park has died.

Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson says 7-year-old Jesse Ramirez died early Friday of his injuries. Ramirez suffered extensive head injuries in the Tuesday beating.

His cousin, 10-year-old Edwin Pellecier, remains in critical condition at a local hospital.

Police arrested 36-year-old Jose Sauceda Gallegos within hours of the attack. Thompson says additional charges will be added to the child abuse and dangerous crimes against children charges he faces.

Doctors believe the boys were bludgeoned repeatedly with a baseball bat or similar object.

Oh hell No Where is Safe ….. who let this fucker in the USA.

Wonder, did I say anything in that article that indicated that this man is an immigrant -- illegal or otherwise? I don't believe that I did.

It's not healthy or productive to assume that anyone with an ethnic name or looks is an immigrant. And even if he *is* an immigrant, it is not healthy or productive to assume that that's why he's a bad person and we should hate him.

I will thank you not to use my posts as a jumping off point for xenophobia. Thx.
  • Zibarro aka Kryssa
My prayers are certainly heading that way!
Prayers for Edwin and Jesse - that they heal completely and get to go home soon.
Prayers for the family members who love these little boys so much to find strength and comfort.
Prayers for swift, immediate justice for this horrific crime.
Prayers for the family of the man who did this - I'm sure they are holding his boys a bit closer today - knowing/believing this beating probably was meant for them.

So very sad, no matter how you look at it.

  • Tragic; I hope the outcome here is better than in Kendra Webdale's murder. Here's a link in case you are not familiar with her: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16713078

Thank you for writing this up, Ruby. The cases that involve a perpetrator who is known or suspected to have psychiatric issues are heartbreaking in their own way. This man had already shown clear signs of serious instability--particularly related to children the ages of his own--and yet he was free in the community. I don't know that there are any tests or evaluations a mental health professional could've performed that might have suggested that community safety required he be held securely, and of course, I don't think I would want "mental instability" alone to be sufficient criteria to keep someone locked up. But Edwin and Jesse are now fighting for their lives, and I'm finding it hard to stay calm and rational about the issue.

Edwin and Jesse, I'm pulling for you!
  • I saw this few days ago on CNN.Unbelievable how bad they are hurt .My heart and prayers go out to the families,,
