Brent Spencer Shot His Son Kagan

Chapmanville, WV – Something bad happened in Brent David Spencer’s head on Wednesday night. His wife, Kristy, was at work. He was at home with their son, three-year-old Kagan. Sometime that evening, Spencer, 29, shot his son in the head with a .22. Then he took the toddler outside and laid him on the ground in the family’s carport. When Kristy’s dad drove her home from work, she found her baby on the ground, barely breathing. Kagan Spencer died at the hospital the next morning.
No motive would make sense for a crime like this. Was Brent Spencer insane? Was he drugged out of his gourd and unable to form a coherent thought? To all appearances, the filicide of Kagan Spencer looks like premeditation. Brent shot the child from about five feet away, leaving an entrance wound just above the preschooler’s left eye.
When Kagan’s mother and grandfather pulled into the drive, they called 911 to report that it looked like Kagan had fallen down and had a severe head injury. And of course Brent Spencer initially did nothing to change their minds. But within moments of assessment, it became clear that little Kagan had been shot – and his father appears to have been the only person in the home with him at the time.
The family doesn’t know what the hell happened. Kagan’s grandparents say that Brent seemed like a good guy. They have no idea why he would shoot Kagan, much less leave him outside to die. That said, Spencer apparently has a lengthy history of DUI and alcohol-related stupidity dating back at least nine years.
Brent Spencer was charged with child neglect causing serious bodily injury on Wednesday night. When Kagan died hours later, the charges were upgraded to murder. Spencer is being held without bond at the Southwestern Regional Jail in Holden, West Virginia.

I’ll tell you what is wrong w/ this one – he’s in West by-God Virginia and out of his mind! Probably inbred? I went to college in WV and have been through Chapmanville before…nada, nothing, ghost town. Of course Mom was working while he was home supposed to be tending to his own child…bored out of his mind, look @ him?! Crazy?! Has no friends? Who knows. People do NOT point guns at their kids, especially loaded! If I am pointing a gun at someone, it’s to shoot them! Not play around. Assholes.

With the current advances in forensics, and robotics, we should be able to exactly reproduce the injuries some asshat inlicts on the innocent, upon them. Kill a child while sexually abusing them; go to the “Machine Room.” Shoot a kid; “Machine Room.” Beat, then burn a kid with a cigarette; yup, “Machine Room.” Of course this is just an example… You get my drift. Let the offenders have a taste of what they’ve done. If that wouldn’t be a deterrent, what would?

I would like to know why this “father”, shot his son and left him to be found in that manner…was trying to get back at the mother or just out of his freak’n mind???
The reason doesn’t change the fact that little Kagan is dead by the hands of this worthless bastard but nevertheless, I want answers!

All I can say is Why? So many questions, but hardly any answers. What causes a man to shoot the child he’s been helping to raise for three years? And then just lay him outside for the mother to find? Was he just drunk, did he have a fight with the child’s mother, did it get too much to handle…what? Not that any reason would make me think any better of this worthless excuse for a father/husband. He’s still lower than whale poop and he always will be.
My heart goes out to Kristy and Kagan Spencer, as well as the rest of their family. Some will say Kagan is in a better place, but there’s no better place for a child than his mother’s arms. No mother should have to outlive her child. Ever. And no child should ever have to face such a death, especially at the hands of his own parent.

Heavy drinking and/or alcoholism can turn a “good guy” into a monster. My son stopped drinking going on 3 years ago now, but before he did he was a Jekyll/Hyde personality.
I feel very bad for Kagan’s mother and extended family and hope his murderous “father” rots in prison and then in Hell.

My dad was pretty much a mean drunk too. He was never “Shoot his kid and leave them to die” mean, but he let my mom have it a few times. I don’t think alcohol is to blame for what this dude did to his child. I bet this POS is going to say something like “God, told me he was a demon and to kill him”. That seems to be the defense of choice these days.
