Michael Janzen, 28, pleaded guilty in the death of 10-month-old Brooklyn Brown. He had admitted that he was upset about breaking up with the child’s mother and in his frustration slammed the child’s head twice into the floor.
He pleaded guilty to second degree murder in the case.

Kansas Law Second Degree Murder

Second degree murder is an intentional killing that was not premeditated. Second degree murder can also be charged in instances where the killing was unintentional but reckless under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life.
The sentencing guidelines provide a range of sentence from a minimum of 147 months imprisonment to a maximum prison term of 653 months on an intentional killing, and a range of 109 months to a maximum of 493 months on an unintentional but reckless killing.

I hope he gets the maximum, 41 years is a long time for Janzen to spend with Big Bub!
I haven’t been able to find his sentencing date…..

Pilshaw, the only woman on the Sedgwick County District Court bench, said she’s learned from those mistakes.

“Unfortunately, I am not a perfect person, therefore I’m not a perfect judge,” Pilshaw said in an e-mail interview. “I have made mistakes but I have learned from every one of them. I have learned to slow down a bit and to be more patient.”

Judge Walters said three disciplinary actions are too much for one judge and pointed out that Pilshaw ranked at the bottom of two judicial evaluations — in 2006 and this year — by local attorneys.

“I don’t know of any other judge in the state of Kansas who has had that many disciplinary sanctions,” said Walters, a lawyer since 1992 focusing primarily on family law. “As for the judicial evaluations, we have 26 judges and she has consistently been at the bottom. She’s been evaluated by the Judicial Qualifications Commission, the Supreme Court of Kansas and the attorneys of Sedgwick County.”

Pilshaw disagrees with being evaluated by the attorneys who appear in front of her.

And why would AprilB post that she has one daughter – Kasey, when she has three? Was AprilB not really Kasey’s mom? An impostor, perhaps?

And does any of this have anything to do with Brooklyn’s death? I don’t see how it could, but then I feel like I’m totally not getting something here.

I wonder what the changes are that Sarah was talking about? Little Brooklyn is still dead, and she was still in the care of Michael Janzen when she was fatally injured, was she not?

For what it’s worth, I’d still just like to learn what the heck happened here. Obviously there are some family issues that may or may not be pertinent. But how the heck did Michael Janzen end up killing Brooklyn? One day he was just this great guy in love with Brooklyn’s mommy, the next day he’s broken-hearted over their breakup, and then kills her baby?

And I am not disagreeing with the fact that Michael killed Brooklynn because he did!!! What truly happened will be told as soon as court! And no I don’t believe that Kasey’s father is in anyway shape or form responsible for this horrible tragedy! Because there is only one person to blame! Weither it was intentional or not is what needs to be proven!

Okay, so as I understand it, Kasey married and then separated from the father of her daughter, Brooklyn, and entered into a relationship with another man, Michael Janzen during said separation. After deciding to reconcile with her husband, Brooklyn ends up in the hands of Janzen for child care purposes only. While Brooklyn was in the care of Janzen, she was murdered. Janzen confessed.

Then we begin a series of cryptic posts, including:

So, there we have it. Problem solved.

This is neither the mother, the granddaughter, nor the aunts fault. And kasey’s sister and her boyfriend are not blaming Kasey for the death of Brooklynn. April B has three daughters!!!! so there we go! that will correct all the wrong facts! I would love to give you more info but it will affect the case if everyone can read it! So I can’t post it here! Yoga—The issue here is that Michaels brother Jason is with Kaseys sister (Trasey) who has threatened her fathers life, while her brother listened in on the phone call–sugarnspice has tried to spread lies about him as well- for obvious reasons– but the the police HAVE been called so the issue is mute. Ur right we will knw the truth! If the police ever show up at my house to discuss any of this with me they well laugh! Just for the fact that there is not a thing that can be done about this I am simply writing my thoughts on this subject just like everyone else did!!!!
